9/11. For those of us who were alive to see it, this is a day that will never be forgotten. After 20 years, we are taking a moment to reflect on the events of that day and to visit the spot where Americans took the fight back to the enemy.
(note: an investigation found that the passengers of Flight 93 never made it into the cockpit. However, it was their efforts to fight back that brought down the plane and spared the Capitol that morning.)

This weekend sir I brought up to other History friends at a WW2 Sept 11 memorial show I did a lil of free advertising for ya and this video actually has me chocked up growing up as a Navy brat my dad was stationed at Camp Johnson in NC I became a first responder day before 9-11 and knew several FDNY and those in the Pentagon who died

Todd Beamer went to my high school and my dad was Todd's basketball coach. September 11 is a day that my family and high school remember this brave man and what he did. Thank you for sharing his story. Todd Beamer was a hero.

This episode brought tears to me. I live in South Central Pennsylvania. My sister worked then and still works in the Pentagon. Her office was destroyed during the attack. She overslept that morning. She still suffers survivor's guilt. I lost a college buddy at the WTC. NEVER FORGET THESE AND ALL OTHER HEROS FROM THAT FATEFUL MORNING!!

I have lots of family in Somerset County. My Aunt and Uncle and some cousins live in Meyersdale Pa. Not to far away. My Dad grew up in Meyersdale

My husband is from Somerset County, PA. We’ve seen this memorial grow from the humble beginning of 40 homemade angels with each person’s name on them and several bulletin boards where people wrote notes and hung them on them. Then there were the pictures, mementos, etc... in metal buildings, then the opening of the new memorial and now to what it is today. A lot of work, thought and love went into this memorial that lies in the middle of nowhere, in a humble field in Pennsylvania. Thank you for this!! You did a great job!!!!

I was born and raised in Somerset County. I live now live in another state, but my family still lives in Somerset County. Just seconds before the plane crashed my brother was outside working in Boswell and he seen it fly over. My mother was also in Boswell, and she heard it but did not see it since she was in her house. My father and half-brother were outside in the yard at their house in Friedens, which is just outside of Somerset, and they saw it flying low just before it crashed.

Since watching this video I made the trip to the memorial site. It was worth the 6 hour drive. Beautiful, emotional and inspiring. They truly were heroes that day. I wanted my teenagers to understand how brave these people were.

The man who designed that monument, Sam Pellman, was my college advisor and a musical genius in his own right. He sadly was killed in 2017. I honor his life in addition to all of those lost on 9/11 whenever this time of year comes around.

I held up until you mentioned the Psalm 23 prayer and begin reciting it. I ABSOLUTELY SHATTERED. That hit me like a truck. Especially given the significance of the phrasing of that prayer and how it resembles the actual final moments of these heroes. "Lying down in green pastures", "ye though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil" literally as they walked in that valley, they feared no evil. Man that....dude...I wasn't ready for that. Beautiful and heart-tearing video dude.

If you're ever in the area, you should go. It's free and only takes a few hours to go through. Fort Ligonier isn't far away from it, as well as a really cute theme park called Idelwild (it's great for kids). Johnstown, PA isn't very far either - lots of flood history to be found there.

I've not heard of this memorial before. I did visit the USA in 2001 for the NASCAR race at Dover Downs and a week later the F1Grand Prix in Indianapolis. We landed in Washington DC a week after 9/11. We had flown around NYC and there was still smoke coming out of that city. At Dover Downs we could see the military transports taking off each on was cheered by the crowd. It's good to see the memorial for the people who saved other innocent lives.

You did amazing job in putting this video all together. Like, as you said those that remember that day will never forget where they were, or what they were doing. The magnitude and sorrow it caused was unbelievable, but ironically brought out some good out of by bringing everyone in America together.

I am an avid American History buff and you, sir, do all of these stories justice. I just watched this am in tears without having even visited but I will be going 2 weeks from tomorrow. A 4 hour drive is the least I can do to honor these 40; a truly honoring and powerful episode. Let’s keep history alive. Bless you.

I’m french Canadian. I made sure both my kids know about 9/11. It left such an impact in my mind and the world. I think it’s important to pass this along so history doesn’t repeat itself. Those of us who were alive when it happened, still remember where we were and what we were doing that day. Every year, around the anniversary, I watch survivor videos, commemorative videos etc. And it always bring back the same feeling I felt on that day.

What a heart felt episode 163 is. I cried while you were saying Psalm 23. I was driving N.B on interest 95. (Tractor Trailer). The cb was going nuts. As I was heading into Washington DC. All trucks were directed to the west side of the loop. We had police and air support directions coming over our cb's. I had no idea of the complete terror until I got to Elkton Md. I sure hope years from now. This day doesn't turn out to be hot dogs and hamburgers in someone's back yard. Blessing to you for this Episode 163.

Cried myself at the same exact time and still crying . Also a DMV ( District , Maryland , Virginia ) resident as well so the appreciation that I have for these people is unmeasurable . JD you did each and everyone of those people on that plane that day proud . USA FOREVER 🇺🇸🙏🏼🇺🇸🙏🏼🇺🇸

I was 10 years old on that day and I remember being in 5th grade. I’m a sheriffs deputy now and I’m not ashamed to admit that this is an absolutely beautiful video that left me in tears. I hope that I can be half as brave as these hero’s when my day comes.

I would rather something like this would never have to be made but sadly people need to remember this day. This day started will evil acts of murder and then becomes something of herorisom and bravery like you could not imagine. we should never EVER let this be stripped from our minds. God bless you brother for doing your part in helping us not forget. We will remember together the victims of 9/11. It was as strange today because I was just working on my Facebook tribute for 9/11 getting reading to post on the 11th Something I have never done before,.I'm looking this year at all the victims but more the children who lost their lives on that fateful morning who be in their 20s but also looking at the children who lost loved ones from inside the tower and heroes like police, firemen who also lost their lives and left wives and unborn children behind. I'm British and 20 years later it still rips out my heart to hear stories read and also watch these events take place in real-time as it did all over the World News. s Together we REMEMBER everyone.

I distinctly remember this day 20 years ago. I was sitting on the floor with my then 1 year old son with the tv on in the background when the news flashes began. I now have 21 years in the military, added 2 daughters and my son is a full grown, Godly man. May we never forget, nor fail to pass on what happened that day. Thank you sir

This is BEAUTIFUL tribute, Sir!!!! I think the monument at 93 feet high for Flight 93, and the 40 bells signaling each passenger and crew. The crash site area is equally as stunning. It’s ALL stunning & haunting. Whomever designed that, did an extremely sensitive and beautiful memorial. I worked and lived as an RN in OKC when the domestic terrorist attacked the Murrah Building by Timothy McVeigh. I’d love to see you travel to OKC and see the Memorial if you haven’t already. I will never forget EITHER event which shaped our history just like you stated at the first of your talk. May they ALL who lost their lives on 9/11 & in OKC rest in eternal peace. 🙏🏻💔🙏🏻 Thank you for doing such justice to this historic and tragic day in history!

The memorial has so many recordings and so much information. I was grateful to visit there in February 2020. It is worth the trip. The wind was still, so i didn't get to hear the bells. But everyone who can, should go. Never forget how ordinary people became extraordinary heroes.

This made me cry a little. I was 21 at the time of 9/11, so I remember the day vividly. But I'd never seen the Flight 93 memorial before. It's both haunting and beautiful. I love the idea behind the Tower of Voices. I wish it had been breezy so you could've heard the music. Well done tribute, JD, and really appreciated today. Can't believe it's been 20 years.

i kept waiting for them to sway a little and tinggsingg , but alas , that's why we ALLLL must GO AND DO JUSTICE BY VISITING AND LETTING THEM TELL US THEIR OWN SELVES!!! How Mercy and GOOD GOES ONWARDS!!! .. The deer family were there though, thus God's especially Good Grace as they were especially there in daytime for us as a gift. I was 23, getting ready for work in Seattle on the West Coast. I feel ya. I always turned on the TV news when I got up as background noise. I didn’t see the first plane hit the South tower but knew immediately it wasn’t right. No pilot would do that. They would have downed the plane anywhere else. I saw the second plane hit on live TV. No words can describe it. My Grandparents who helped raise me went through Pearl Harbor and my Papa (Grandfather) served in the Pacific during WW2. My Papa passed away in 1998. I’m so glad he didn’t live to see this. It would have crushed him. My Grandmother, his widow was moved in a way I can’t explain. I’m obviously not going to share that on social media. The only other time in my life I ever saw my Grandmother get that upset was when my Papa died. People that care about this Country and know that it’s an imperfect but beautiful unique thing, the greatest social experiment in human history know the impact of this. The terrorists tried to shake our resolve. They did it because they are evil people that don’t believe in the goodness of humanity and the American people. We are a nation of many different people, immigrants from all over the planet. I’m a Great Grandson of a Scottish immigrant. No matter how politicians try to divide us, we, in the end are all Americans and our stories really aren’t that much different.

I was a month from my 21st birthday serving in the Navy in San Diego. if you go to the 9/11 museum and memorial in NYC it is haunting. reading all the names of the people who died that day and the occasional mother with unborn child is overwhelming. forever ingrained in our consciousness and memory ❤️🗽🇺🇸

I was 21 as well ,still remember this like yesterday my wife now was my girlfriend of 4 mnths she called me at work and saud did i see what happened in new york i said no what at the time she was telling me she said a small plane hit the tower about that time i herd it on radio so i turned it up and when they said the next building was hit i knew it was a terrorist attack and man i remember felling so angry, sad vengeful then as the days passed proud, PROUD to be an American and the way we all pulled together. I always watch footage of 9/11 and i dont think ill ever not feel like it was that same day

I lived in DC at the time and it was speculated that the third plane would be heading there target unknown : capitol or White House perhaps ( no one was guessing the Pentagon🥵

I was working the morning news at a midwestern U.S. city news station that day when the network broke in and the world changed. I knew three people lost that day. It still seems like last week. Twenty years later I still feel the shock and power that changed my life forever. It's alright J.D., we all feel our words are inadequate. Another fine tribute. Keep traveling.

Very well presented. I was getting ready for work when my sister called, she told me to turn on my TV that an airplane just hit the WTC. I was one of the millions of other people who watched as the second plane hit the second tower not sure what was happening to our country. As the reports of the other two planes came in I remember the sick feeling I had in the pit of my stomach. My brother-in-law's brother was a pilot for United and it seemed like an eternity until we found out he was OK but was ordered out of the sky. I am so proud of everyone who stood up to those hijackers. Rest in peace.

With all of the stress and anxiety of our recent times, I was making a conscious effort to avoid revisiting the pain of 9/11 this year. This video is literally the only coverage I’ve consumed. I’m so grateful that I did. The humility in your tour of this site allowed the space for me to let my emotions roam with yours. Turns out I didn’t need a break from 9/11. I just needed a different way to remember it. Thank you.

That day i was serving in another army across the atlantic from you. We heard the radiomessage. Everybody fell silent and went to pack their stuff. "We are going to war over this with somebody" some soldier remarked. Turned out we stood shoulder to shoulder with the US for the next 20 years. Very proud off our soldiers ...

We were there a year ago at this time. My heart was truly broken. We lost someone from our hometown of Lemoore, California, Lt. Cmdr. Otis Tolbert who was at the Pentagon. Thank you for this JD, you did a beautiful job commemorating these lives. Our daughter was in band and in 2002 the Liberty Patriots rallying cry was “Let’s Roll!” in honor of Todd Beamer 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

You did yourself proud with this video. It is one of the best that I have seen and I have been working my way through your excellent videos. One of the heroes of 93 was raised in the small village of Clinton New York. Last year there was a monument to him in the form of a granite bench in the school yard. Even though he lived in NJ, he was a small town kid. His family still lives in the area. Thank you JD for making such a great tribute to the heroes of Flight 93.

Beautiful tribute. One moment that most these passengers and crew got that those on the other flights didn’t was a possible chance to say goodbye to loved ones on the phone or through a voice message. This day will forever be in my heart. Everyone has his or her story of that day. My brother was a flight attendant for American on that day and I knew he was on the east coast. I tried all day to get ahold of him but no luck. Later that evening I did finally speak to him. He was on Flight AA11 the day prior...9/10. My husband at the time was a high ranking Federal Agent. Immediately after the second plane hit the tower, we knew it was an act of terrorism and his beeper (look it up kids) went crazy. Like everyone’s stories, it seems like yesterday. I started hugging my children a little tighter, said “I love you” when ever we said goodbye and I continue to pray for those who lost loved ones on that tragic day. This is a beautiful video, thank you!

I was fortunate to be a Plankowner of the USS SOMERSET (LPD 25) a Navy ship that’s namesake to the county of Shanksville. During her commissioning ceremony, it was an honor to have escorted the surviving family members of the first 40 fallen heroes on the war against terrorism. Those brave Americans prevented additional death and damage that would have came to either the Capitol Building or White House. Metal from a crane that was nearby the United 93 crash site was used to lay the keel during the construction of USS SOMERSET. When 9/11 occurred I was stationed onboard USS SHILOH (CG 73) and we returned to sea within a few hours after the attack to protect the California coastline, enforcing a “no fly zone” restriction. I will never forget!

The Flight 93 fallen heroes sacrificed everything to prevent the hijackers from completing their heinous plot and killing unknown scores of other people So glad there is a fitting memorial for them now and pray they are indeed resting in peace and that their families fared okay

My dad was on the USS Abraham Lincoln i think it was in san diego. I was also in SD at the time. He was also just coming home and had to turn right back around

Excellent tribute. Thinking about your closing words regarding teaching this to the school age children, made me realize I was born 20 years after Pearl Harbor happened. In school I thought it was "ancient history", but now realize this will be "ancient history" to my grandkids. Thank you for always presenting your stories with great respect.

All I can say is this young man did a heartfelt tribute to the 40 lives who had nothing in common, but had their eternity in common in a very short period of time. I personally learned a great deal that I did not know beforehand. For that I am very grateful for his labor of love, respect and sadness in educating people like myself for the insight, and the memorials built to remember. Thank you

Sir you did it justice!!! An AMAZING TRIBUTE to the Hero’s on that flight. Being a Veteran I’ve known many who have fought against Terrorism and know a few who gave their all and the 40 people people on that plane are now on that list on true American Heroes who gave their all!!!!! WELL DONE!!!!!!

Thanks for this great video and wonderful commentary. Hard to believe it's been 20 years! There is a memorial garden to Flight 93 at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. It's very small, but in a lovely hilltop setting with amazing ocean views. Todd Beamer was a Pepperdine alumnus.

Well done sir. We took our children here a few years ago...what a haunting place. I got chills and tears as I watched this. You have honored their memory with the way you present the history of that day. I know many many people visit NYC and DC and rightfully so, but this place needs to be visited too. The fact it is a bit "out of the way" so to speak makes it even more worthy of the time and effort to visit. Some of our most important memorials and monuments take effort to get to them, but I have always been moved when we have made that effort. Keep up your work!

JD - your video on Flight 93 and the Shanksville Memorial was beyond excellent. Not only was it well done from a videography perspective but your sentiments really touched me. Your best video yet. I was there on 9/11/11, they didn't have the over hang completed yet. Looks very impressive. A tough place to visit. Some family members were still there the time I got there 10 years ago. They were still in the field near the rock placed on the impact sight. Seeing them out there, and when they came back up near the wooden gate where a bunch of us were standing, it was a surreal experience.

Its hard to believe its been 20 years. I remember that day with stark clarity. At least the significant portions of it. I was on a field trip & we got off the bus & were told what had happened. It was the first time i heard of the wtc. 6 years later i saw the empty bathtub as they had barely begun construction of the memorial. I dont need pictures to remember what it looked like...i dont need pictures or video to remember the images we saw from that day either, forever they are etched in my memory.

Cannot believe this happened 20 years ago it was the Kennedy moment of my lifetime. I will never forget the horrors I saw that day all be it that it was on TV. This was such a beautiful tribute. The passengers and crew on Flight 93 will forever be hero's in everyones minds. Their courage and bravery saved so many lives. Seeing everyone's names is absolutely heartbreaking. I think you are so right, we need to pass stories like this down for generations to come. A story of tremendous sacrifice but hope that the human race can overcome evil.

I don’t like admitting this… But this video moved me to tears! No words can describe the outstanding job you did sharing the experience of this place. Very moving! Very sobering! And I’m sure that each and every one of those people would be ashamed of the people we have become today…. Fighting and bickering over nonsense… divided on every subject. I’m sure all of those people, of differing backgrounds, faiths, social statuses, came together and fought for one thing! And they prevailed! Thank you for covering this! What a humbling experience!

I was 23 years old working on a roof in, Meetinghouse Village in Meriden CT, when the attack started! Sadly, that day will never be forgotten. RIP, to all the lost lives!

I visited the memorial a few years ago. Listening to the recorded phone calls from these heroes is very powerful and moving. Personally I was effected by hearing those calls. I cried a lot during my visit to this sacred place. God bless these heroes and their families.

This is something to see. I knew a passenger on that flight that day. I went to high school with them, and we graduated the same year. I never thought this would ever happen in my lifetime. Thank you

JD the memories of that day always come flooding back, like so many of us I'll never forget that day. I had just gotten my license to teach pilots to fly. I wouldn't teach a student until the following Feb. I hadn't yet gotten to the airlines. I knew as a vet, that so many were about to have to do some seriously dangerous things. All our lives would change that day! Thank you for a wonderfully moving piece about Flt 93.

I don't really remember the day. I was 12, but I am reminded of the courage the passengers of Flight 93. Several years later I would be reminded again when my high school basketball team would play the Titans of Todd Beamer HS in Federal Way, WA.

A relative of mine lives near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border and remembers seeing United 93 moments before the crash. Those passengers embodied true American spirit. Never forget.
