My view is that you would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful traffic pattern in the world than the one at Isla Grande (TJIG). Left base over El Morro is just amazing... Safe travels!

I'm almost done with my private pilot and have been to Culebra three times now (my former boss owns a house down there). Landing at the airport gives me shivers every time! Nice work!

+Andrew Anderson all part of the scary stage of learning to fly. Just keep going and I promise things get much easier. The more you learn, the more comfortable you are with what's going on in and outside of the cockpit. Just keep going and you will break through this barrier. What you are feeling is normal. Wish you success with your training!

If you find yourself too fast, just do a Forward Slip in the turn, just hit top rudder for it..remove rudder on the flare..If floating too much in the flare, just take the flap handle and raise flaps to half and push nose down while doing it..the nose on low wingers will raise when flaps are raised..Bush Pilots Tricks i learned there in PR while visiting in 2002..

Hola Westley, lo mas fácil es comprar un pasaje en Vieques Airlink. Ellos hacen la misma ruta ("River" transition going east and "Tango" transition coming back to the west. Saludos...

Hola! Exito y buen viaje! Saludos!

manoblass What were you flying in and where did you rent from? I'm going in a couple of weeks. Arland Miller I've got around 250hrs, instrument rated, and I'm looking for an FBO or someone at Isla Grande that allows C172s rentals to Culebra.
@arlandmiller66739 жыл бұрын
korbybagoli Sorry for the late reply but here it goes. I am flying my own plane. I believe North Shore Aviation is one of the few local outfit that rent planes here in PR. I don't think they have a twin for rent but I would recommend you contact them directly and make sure. They may. Safe travels...

Awesome video! Do you know of any flight schools in Isla Grande where I can take classes with my VA benefits?
@arlandmiller66738 жыл бұрын
Thanks Manny and glad you are looking into taking flight lessons. Not sure on which schools provide instruction using the VA benefits. There are two types of schools: part 61 and part 141. The federal government has a really big book of regulations called Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) where they detail how flight instruction must be provided in order to be approved by the FAA. In short, part 141 will be a highly structured program better tailored for the professional pilot track. Part 61 is a more flexible program that allows smaller schools to provide instructions to those with work and familiy considerations and need to go at a more flexible pace. In Isla Grande Airport, I believe you have both types. I believe the only part 141 program left is provided by the Interamerican University program. They would most likely be able to provide instruction with some type of Veteran benefits. Would suggest you call them first. In terms of part 61, there are at least three schools which I will leave up to you to look up. I have not used any so not able to provide an opinion. Please be advised that last year a school no longer in business folded operations and taking tens of thousands from student deposits. Buyer beware. The third option that fall under part 61 is to hire a private Certified Flight Instructor that owns his own plane or has access to a plane for instruction. Good luck and hope to see your own flying videos on youtube very soon. Safe travels!

how much are the flights to culebra? i tried catching a ferry but i understimated the time i had to get there.
@arlandmiller66738 жыл бұрын
+dbsshadow Depends on where you depart. Main three spots are from San Juan International, Isla Grande Airport (mostly a general aviation airport in the heart of the hotel district in San Juan) and Ceiba (close to where you pick up the ferry. There are several ways to do it: 1) Commercial Scheduled Airline (Vieques Air Link and Flamenco Air), Non-Scheduled/Air Taxi/Charter. The prices will of course vary from where you leave. I would recommend that is you are coming from the US into the International Airport you just connect via one of the scheduled airlines. If San Juan will be your home base, even if you have a car, I would recommend flying out of Isla Grande. Price/person one way would be approx $75 vs $45 if leaving from Ceiba but you avoid the over one hour drive each way and plus you get a nice flight over the north eastern coast and the rain forest on your way back. The option of the non scheduled/airtaxi will again depend from where you depart but it does provide you with greater flexibility at an increased cost. Hope this helps and enjoy Culebra!
