In English, the Yanbaru kuina is known as the "Okinawa rail". The species was only described scientifically in 1981! It is not entirely flightless, it can roost in trees. Rails are a large group of mostly ground dwelling birds though some are waterfowl like the "coot" here in the USA. When I was on Guam 50 years ago I used to see the Guam rail, also a flightless bird. But the accidental introduction of the Asian brown snake caused the Guam rail to go extinct in the wild. Zoos had breeding populations and there has been some success in re-introducing the Guam rail into the wild.

The time before last that I went camping I had a wombat walk right by my head while I was lying down on a surfboard. I didn't realise they had such long claws. I think it wasn't afraid and or didn't want to attack me because it is a popular camping spot where I went and the wombats there are used to people.

The only difference I can see in videos that have millions of views and your videos is the camera angle? Looking good by the way.

Thank you for the great video! I stayed around Chatan/American Village area near Kadena AFB for Air National Guard Temporary Duty (TDY) work 2 years ago. It was nice but too Americanized. Had a chance to visit Charaumi Aquarium which was great. Last month took a leisure vacation to Ishigaki island which was great! Beautiful beaches and chill, laid back people. Delicious Wagyu Ishigaki beef too! Also took a day trip to Taketomi Island by boat. Also great experience. Stayed 6 days (in Ishigaki) and rented a car near our resort. Perfect warm weather all 6 days. The hotel staff said we were lucky. Could swim in the ocean in front of our hotel and use outdoor pool. Enjoy the rest your stay and safe travels!

I've been to Japan a few times but not made it to Okinawa yet. I really want to spent about 2 weeks on that island as it seems like absolute paradise! Go for a bike ride through the local towns. See nature. It is my main plan for 2025!
