Meet the custom A330 for MILITARY (mid-air refueling and more!)

Meet the MRTT, Airbus' multi role tanker transport aircraft that helps militaries move cargo, people and even perform mid-air refueling. We go deep inside the programme, visiting the Airbus facility in Getafe, Spain where A330s are converted into the MRTT, an exhaustive and lengthy process involving lots of customization. We see up close as two aircraft get turned into MRTTs complete with mid-air refueling boom installation - and then we go inside a finished aircraft bound for NATO. We get a look at the cabin and the very unique flight deck which includes a station for the refueling boom operator. And finally, we test out a simulator made for practicing the mid-air refueling operation. Oh and don't miss Chris and Gabe flying commercial from Toulouse to Madrid and arguing over who gets the window seat. Enjoy!

The FAF a330 has high chances to be repainted in grey because it was first used as a normal passager a330 for military transportation and they wanted to convert them all into mrtts

Lovely video my most favorite part about it is showing how the beluga could get fuel and loaded at same time but 1 request thou is that could you do a simular video with the boeing767/kc-76 Pegasus

Worker hours total 50-60 worker years A few hundred working for a few months per aircraft, Likely counts all worker hours billed not just the people actually laying hands on the aircraft. Airbus has 3,000 workers in Spain on this and other projects. With 256 deliveries so far in 2024 and their website says "With around 134,000 employees" that's umm 500,000 work hours per new aircraft average. Without going into how many of each produced lets say $150 million per aircraft / 500,000 hours = $300 per worker hour put into an aircraft. Not that they are each paid that, just that it says 500,000 hours per aircraft is a reasonable seeming expenditure on workers for an aircraft and 100,000 hours , several $millions labour cost, for a rebuild isn't too bad.

Does anyone know why the RAF don’t have the boom fitted to their MRTT’s ? If it’s because they don’t own them then why lease them without the boom , do they not need the boom?

Hi im from greenland and my dream is to become a pilot and i wanted to ask how do you get acces to the cockpit? Ive got lucky once bc the flight attendant was my aunts bestfriend so can i buy like a ticket? Or smth?😊

You can just ask the flight attendant when passing by the cockpit, or you can ask them during the flight if you can view the cockpit after you land, and the flight attendant will ask the captain, then they will make you stay until everyone has left and you're the only one and then they will take you to the cockpit. Although some airlines have a policy against letting passengers in the cockpit, it depends on what airline you're flying.

Boris Johnson's only legacy was, repainting the Royal Air Force's MRTT in a super-ultra-cool Union flag style. (Past case: The Royal Family landed a "warship" colored airbus battle machine. This shocked the people of HND Tokyo.)

Was quite surprised to have two French Air Force (Armée de l'air) MRTTs parked opposite work at Brisbane airport (YBBN) a few weeks ago. I assume they were engaged in the recent troubles in New Caledonia.
