I always take Vamoose from my city Bethesda. One time I took the JET bus from DC. I could say it was a one of a king experience and I would defenitely ride it again

Some Flixbuses *do* use Union Station now. The same thing more or less happened in Boston too, where Flixbus was first in a parking lot a few blocks away from the bus terminal, then they moved into South Station some time later.

As someone who is more prone to going for cheaper options, I'm happy there are multiple locations close to residential neighborhoods so we don't have to go through downtown to get to the main station. I wonder if that's kinda how they think? I think the same busses will stop at each location before leaving the city

@@EthanLongthey at all bus stations now I looked for my original trip to Nc but it’s almost 2 days vs greyhound which is 24 hours so I think saving extra ten dollars not worth it

@@_KEEPITLIT_ No. In our case the driver only helped the passengers to get the bags into the bus. No inspection whatsoever.

Greyhound has a poor reputation where flix doesn’t so that would be my guess as to why they don’t.

Im not sure how it works in Germany 🇩🇪 but what Flixbus has done here is they don’t own their fleet. They’ve simply partnered with private bus operators who have under utilized fleets and that is why there is such a disparity in the quality of the vehicles. Flixbus doesn’t own them. Do they own their buses in Germany? I’m a bus driver from DC and I see them all the time in Union Station now.

Hi, in fact Flixbus owns only 1 old city bus in Germany. And this one is sitting in a garage all the time. That's because they have to own at least one bus to get a permit as a bus company. I saw that they do operate from Union Station now. Maybe the parking lot solution was only for a short period of time.

When I lived in DC 20 years ago - Greyhound, Peter Pan (a big East Coast bus line), Carolina Trailways and some smaller companies used the Greyhound terminal. When I moved to DC in 1985 - the classic art deco Greyhound station was still in use. I do not understand why Flix and a few other smaller lines originate/terminate in an unsheltered parking lot. Maybe for cost?? You are missing another”option” from DC. The old “Chinatown bus”. Various small charter company busses used to run from Chinatown DC to Chinatown Philadelphia to Chinatown NYC. Keeping their busses busy between Asian tour groups. They stopped only at a certain location in DC Chinatown and a mid-journey break at the Maryland House on I-95. The tickets were cheap. Somehow the drivers never seemed to speak English. Cash exact fare only. A bus of interesting good smells. 95% of the riders were Asian, the rest poor folks slumming it to NYC. You had to learn general bus arrival times from the old CityPaper in DC (now defunct) or from folks at Chinese stores in Chinatown DC. All I knew was there were 2-3 services each way on weekends. We would go up to NYC on a morning bus and come back on Amtrak… Someone told me that due to DC downtown traffic - that busses are now starting in Wheaton, MD. In the Asian community there. Can’t confirm that…

The I-95 corridor to New York has almost too much traffic on it. It is constantly being worked by all of the contiguous states with state and local money spent on it. Your bus ride bounce looked awful! Our Chinatown bus or Peter Pan busses would never have had that awful a ride! I wonder whom or where bus maintenance was done??

A Volvo Van Hool coach ! Euro 6 environmental ? BUT !! NO power-socket and Wi-FI at the seats ? In Europe this is standard with power sockets and Wi-Fi. I think Flixbus use the parking-lot because of the (high) price of using the ordinary bus-central ALL Flixbus have a BAD legrom

To be fair. In theory there was Wifi service available. It just wasn't working. We do have the same problem in good old Europe. At least on my Flix-trips. The parking lot thing: If you look up the route now, all Flixbus take the bus stop at union station. It might have been just a replacement stop for a short period of time? In New York the parking lot is way better than the port authority bus terminal (worst place of NY). Not very welcoming, smelly and outdated.

I have trip from DC to New York Midtown and I continue to from NYC to Scranton and have only 50 minutes between transfer in NYC ...so my question is how long was a delay ?

For this route there is much more options with better buses it’s not that more expensive, you choose the worst,

Ok, but as a German, "my bus operator" was the most interesting to me. I wanted to see if they are similar to the European services. Next time I'm in the states I will choose megabus or else. What is the best operator in your eyes?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm going to travel Los Angeles to Las Vegas at night. Should I pay for the seat 2C and 2D? Is it worth it? I got the seat 9C and 9D free with the tickets.

If you want to have the front view, I would choose 2C and D. If not, row 9 is fine aswell. There is no difference (legroom) between those rows. Enjoy your trip!

In Europe you gotta pay even for folding bikes that are suitcase size - if you're not even carrying a suitcase. That sucked badly. I tried to save money in a 200km ride from Amsterdam to Groningen by going by bus instead of train - and ended up spending more because you have to pay the folding bike luggage fee for the whole 750km trip to Berlin or whatever german city it went to, even if you're only covering a third of the total distance. I ended up spending more money on the bus than on the train, where folding bikes are free.

Horrible first experience on flixbus. I took it from NYC to DC on a Sunday. We left ontime but overheated on the NJ turnpike. The driver was Chinese, and that speak much English with my mechanical background. I helped him add antifreeze coolant to the engine. We spent close to 1 hour at the rest stop on the tpke. I will never take the bus again.

Former USMC. I traveled in the past it was ok. I like the assigned seats. But the BUS STATION IN TAMPA, FL IS UNDER A BRIDGE. Bus drivers that stopped there didn't give a SHI* about answering costumer's questions. That's what our money is worth and our value and our safety. I took a trip to Knoxville TN. In Atlanta our trip was canceled after being there 9 hours with bus 0105 canceled 2xs. They offered a Voucher or Reassigned your route for another time. HOW convenient as a smart A** remark. NEVER AGAIN SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TAKE A SAFER ROUTE.
