Floating Oak Plywood Headboard With LED Backlight

This is fairly simple headboard to go along with the oak bed frame I made earlier. I wanted to be angled so that its more comfortable to sit up against and I also think it adds a nice aesthetic.
The LED lights could be a bit more diffused. I might add something to reflect the light off the wall more to give it more glow.

Thanks! Yes I intend to make plans for it eventually but I'm still not sure when I will have them available.

Looks awesome! A design idea (might not be an improvement) that occurred to me while watching you put the LEDs in. By putting them behind the edge strips, you've created a hard line when they are on. I wonder if they were on the back of the edges themselves, or on a strip placed where they currently are if you want them back a bit, you would end up with a more natural light without the hard shadow lines?

Thanks! I thought about that, but I wanted to hide it as much as possible. I did think there would be a bit of a hard line from it thats why I put the strips further in from the edge but it still created a hard line. I think if I were to put a strip of white acrylic or something next to the LED strip to bounce more light up that would have eliminate that line and give more of a glow

That looks sweet Tim - I assume the ply is out of the range from PlyTech. (why I ask ... we've had no headboard for over ten years, five of which I've been promising to make one 😎)

Simple work ,yet elegant. Great job. How come you didn’t hide the end grain on the edges of the backboard. My only criticism.

Thanks! I definitely considered it. In the end I decided to keep it exposed as you don't really see it and I wanted to get it done quickly in half a day.

What finish did you use on it? and what grit sanding did you go to?

I used water based polyurethane. Sanded to 240 and in between coats

LED strip should have pointed up vertically up rather than horizontally which the final effect is not too much light coming through. Not too bad either.

I guarantee you ,it absolutely is not awkward. All table saws should be like this. This smaller looking man just cross cut and ripped a 3/4” Venere plywood by him self, no struggle.

It does look awkward, and it did feel awkward when I first started using the saw but you get used to it with a bit of practise
