@@mathijsrikken Athlestan knew exactly what kind of man Ecbert truly was. He chose to ignore it due to his naivety in wanting to believe that Ecbert was a good man at heart. When King Ecbert’s soldiers were first captured by Ragnars and questioned by him & Athelstan on their first visit to Wessex. There’s a whole conversation where Athelstan confirms with the soldiers that rumors about King Ecbert are true and that he was a man to be feared. Athelstan was willfully ignorant and foolish. That annoys me more than anything.

I think everyone else missed another big point of this scene... Ivar called him a coward, and nobody, especially a coward would have never said that to Ivar's face. Which made Ivar smile, knowing Floki was still Floki.

The guys at work have given me the nickname Floki in the last two years or so because I'm odd af, if I'm being entirely honest. I used to think it was a bit of an insult but I found out that it's more to do with the fact that my temper can be a bit out of control, I'm pretty unpredictable and don't hold my tongue. Even when I probably should lol. So now I take it as a compliment. Even though I'm definitely not Floki 😂. Dudes a fuckin beast. But I am fiercely loyal to those I care about. Kind of sad when you realize just how right Ivar was when he said this and how Floki walking away was the only actual fail-safe that could have prevented what ended up happening. Floki was truly the only living human-being who if he was actually around could have prevented them from their eventual fates.

I love Floki 😅 it was sad though when they lost their daughter when Ragnar punished him in the cold that time with the water dripping. But even Ragnar couldn't killing, their friendship and their bond was so strong.
