Boris FX is running a Black Friday 25% off sale during Thanksgiving 2020 and the discount code will be temporarily disabled.
In this new tutorial by flomotion you will learn how to age a person / character with the help of the new poser mesh tool within mocha pro.
This new feature within mocha pro 2021 allowes you to track warped surfaces.
So in a easy to understand way I am going to show you this new feature/ tracking method and you over the main features of a mesh track.
I am also going to show to you how to customize the mesh to your needs.
In After Effects you will learn how to set up your composition for an easy tracking workflow.
Learn how to precompose and adjust the time of your composition within the composition settings.
The whole tutorial will be easy to follow along and therefore good to watch for beginners and pros, as all steps are explained in detail from beginning to end.
As a bonus this time we will go into Photoshop and have a look at the new neural filters which are based on AI.
This means the maching learning tool from Adobe "Adobe Sensei" will generate images for you, with easy to use sliders for the facial age.
An other new tool that we are going to take a look at is the new roto brush tool, which we will use to create a matte from fine hair detail.
YOu will also learn the following effects today:
- levels
- tint
- curves
- photo filter
- masking
- roto brush
- track mattes
- mocha pro

@flo.motion
@flo.motion 3 жыл бұрын
Hey. I was once like you. I did not learn anything of that in school or university... just by trying out stuff and experimenting (there was no KZfaq or such thing around when I started...) So watching tutorials is the first thing you could do, but more important is to open up after effects and try to recreate the things you have learned! Learning is one thing, but making mistakes is even more productive, as you will find creative solutions by that! An other tip that may sound strange at first: When I started I also bought a camera and some lenses and went out photographing a lot! In that way I trained my eye. For example: are the colors of? How do different lenses behave, what is a nice framing? How does depth of field work in the real world? What happens to the horizon when i move my camera? and what if I rotate it? Believe me, getting a trained eye for nice pictures (no matter which ones) will help your creativity and your look of your final compositions! Last but not least if you haven't heard of him: Watch tutorials from Andrew Kramer on videocopilot.net. He is like the godfather of After Effects... sooner or later you will bump into him anyways!

@JWS1968

@@flo.motion It's exactly the same idea you're using tracking data to attach a layer which you then add an effect to, to change persons appearance. The effect is a distorted version of the face and you even use tint effects to further enhance/change the look of that texture. The tracking data then warps the texture to match the original face. These are ALL ideas that Andrew Krammer has done not only in the Demon Face Warp tutorial but in various other tutorials he has made over the years. Even the bit where you go into Photoshop. You use a brand new feature that wasn't available back then which obviously changes the workflow somewhat, but it only chages it in terms of 'it's a different plugin with different controls and so requires different steps' but it's principle use and objective is exactly the same. The work flow is different because the technology has changed over the years. And it's not the Liquid filter its the Liqufy filter. Listen mate don't take offence, you're fucking great at this shit and we can all see that. And I'm not suggesting you got the idea from Andrew Krammer but don't say it's completly different because it just isn't. Same principles same objective same outcome. Sorry. 😉

Awesome video, thank you - really inspiring stuff! One thing I wonder though, with regards to the hair.....would it not have been easier to make the edit to hair within photoshop when you did the ref frame, rather than the extra stages in AE? In any case, it awesome stuff and got me thinking about trying something similar for fun.
@flo.motion
@flo.motion 3 жыл бұрын
Haha, now that you say it: Yes! Totally right... I was so much focused on AE as I am normally only doing AE tutorials that I have not thought about this! But anyways I am super happy that I found the idea with the roto brush, because when I have something similar to do in the future I will go back to that solution!! But thanks a lot!! DO you know if the edge detection is the same in Photoshop?

@@flo.motion I have no idea to be honest, I'm not an expert on either platform. Just seemed like a more natural way to do it thats all. I guess even if you swap out the hair in PS you would still need the AE edge detection. I'm certainly going to need to get a mocha pro sub (for 1 mknth at least) to give this a try and confuse the kids haha. Thanks so much and keep up the good work. Jon

Good job done with the tutorial and thx for this. As you already mentioned within reference tut that an AE roto tut has been done/linked already, I'd rather would use Mocha Pro's roto tools here also including this within the tut. Also, why not using more reference frames for better results to not outbid the warp for to large differences in the image (mouse open/closed, angles of the head...)? Just some ideas but without any bad words about your work here - just awesome.
@flo.motion
@flo.motion 3 жыл бұрын
hey! I don't think it is possible to use more then one reference frame at this time... and for the roto: all the fine hair detail won't be possible to roto within mocha, unfortunately. But the roto brush in AE will do the job! Promised!!

Great tutorial 👌..but will it work on any type of shots ..like over the shoulder..wide..medium..with half of the subjects face in the frame etc...??
@flo.motion
@flo.motion 2 жыл бұрын
well, the more complicated the shot, the more complicated the composition, but somehting like an over shoulder should work pretty easy with the same workflow! just a little more roto

Always wondered how they changed Joseph Gordon-Levitt's face in the movie "Looper". Now I have a little idea. I'll definitely try this out.

I would recomend masking the person then putting in the background because you can still see the background weird.

Hey, How did you manage to get your face tracked so perfectly? Every time i do the same thing the track messes up and some points are all over the place? Is my footage not HD enough? Please advise me.

good question! To give you a perfect answer I would need to take a look at your footage! How have you filmed it? Which camera did you use?

@@flo.motion My friend, thank you for your concern. At minute 7:35 of the tutorial, you add a precomposition (Mesh Track), made with a GRID (that's what I can hear). That's the part that I can't understand. Can you explain it as clearly as the tutorial? Thanks a million!

Great feature. It would be nice if we could save the preset and re-use the exact same settings instead of repeating it for each image.
