Sad part is, 343's boner for making the humans op completely ruined the nuances of Halo 3. Apparently 343 revealed that the humans still had hundreds of colonies that weren't destroyed by the Covenant during the War. Lord Hood's stress over Earth being all they have left makes no sense after 343 decided to retcon it. In addition to their books describing the Elites as incompetent idiots, they've made all the villains feel like a joke. Very much prefer the tone that Bungie's games presented. The tone of 343's Halo universe feels more like a superhero melodrama than a space opera adventure.

I would just like to point out the subtle animations on Master Chief, especially when Lord Hood mentions "we risk everything, every last man, woman and child" he turns his hands into fists as he looks down as if trying to decide what to do. THAT is personifying the Chief, not making him talk endlessly.

@Espartanica3 жыл бұрын
@@revolverocelot1380 Halo 4 and 5 prefer either leaving important details in outside lore or shoving them in your face and having everything be told, not shown. For example the constant discussion about what the Chief is thinking about the area around him or how he feels about events that just happened in the cutscenes. His dialogue for Halo CE was only around a minute and a half including death screams, and similarly he had sparse lines in Halo 2 and 3. He spoke a lot only when during debriefing and the like, sharing information, where of course he should, and otherwise didn't say much. Think of the intro to Metropolis, the exit cutscene of Tsavo Highway, even the Epilogue of Halo 3. Halo 4 and 5, however, have the Chief talk a lot more than he did prior, expressing every thought and feeling that crosses his mind, which contradicts his personality as written in Halo 3 and further makes 343's Chief feel like a different character. While not inherently bad, a big part of why Halo was so beloved was that the lack of dialogue during gameplay left players to decide how THEY felt about events going on, not be told what their character feels about it. And all those words meant rather than being shown what we were about to be dropped into, usually we just had it explained. No more mystery, no more subtle gestures, no more body language, because the characters instead just said what they'd have implied through their movement.

I did enjoy the nice little detail of how the Elites and marines respected each other. If I recall there were even Human sympathizers among the Elites. Very few, but it was there, and they constantly wondered why not allow Humans when they were much more capable than the Grunts. Mostly because Humans completely invalidated the Covenant religion. The Prophets, as power hungry (and inbred) as they always are, couldn't have that happening.

I just love how Lord Hood calmly asks Chief is he trusts Cortana that much and when he gives his answer. Agrees to let him do what he thinks is right with the entirety of the war, Earth, and flood on the line. But Del Rio in 4 years is the biggest bitch about staying on a planet with the most powerful UNSC ship, dozens of Spartan 4s and also a advanced A.I.
@xavierchen7054 Жыл бұрын
The ironic thing was that Del Rio's role in the story is very much similar to Lord Hood just that the execution was off and I believe that's what the writers are trying to pull off but yes, they definitely made him a bitch. They could have made Del Rio more reasonable but still against Chief, after all they are in an unknown world, unknown enemy whose numbers (and power are unknown), possibly without support, and the only ship like the Infinity. Powerful doesn't mean invincible as in examples such as the Yamato, the Bismarck, and even the Persians in the battle of Thermopylae. My head cannon believes that Hood wants to believe there's hope in Chief which is why he allows them to go with the Elites.
@wailinginanger3521 Жыл бұрын
@@xavierchen7054 Well yeah, but the Infinity had just got done absolutely bashing down at least 6-7 Covenant cruisers and the Didacts little sphere while it itself was grounded and immobile. Opinion with spoilers: (If you do not wish to hear my opinion, do not press "read more" otherwise, let me know if I missed any small details of lore.) Considering that the Flood is a hivemind descended from the Precursors and made up from the knowledge of an innumerable amount of victimized sentient beings, I'm sure that the Gravemind would have been smart enough to scatter at least half of his army away to safer locations, maybe gathering extra biomass to grow his army, away from harm where there is no risk or major loss from the rings. An entire flood army, within time, can come from one singular flood spore that is nearly microscopic and airbound. Think of the possibilities for if one of the trillions of flood spores survived. Not to mention there is also Flood contained in forerunner research areas within most if not all rings. Given all the evidence of the Gravemind's capabilities, I would think it is safe to say that the Flood will never go away. Never stop existing. Bottom Line: I stand with the opinion that the Flood is still around, maybe planning for something. After all, the Gravemind's collective intellect should not be taken for granted. And yes, I trust 343 that they know what they are doing. Sue me.

Much as I like this scene, why would Arbiter and Johnson exchange weapons?

343 watched only this cutscene, ignored everyone except Master Chief and Cortana, and said: "Let's base our games around this, without any of the good writing!"
