My first wife and I panned enough gold from beneath the bridge over the American River in Sacto, to make our wedding rings. Took us about 4mos of 1-2 days a month, bout 6hrs each.

Commiefornia outlawed gold dredging starting with a temporary moratorium. Then the Indian tribe in bed with the enviro crooks destroyed the most efficient way to get gold. Rules already in place to protect the environment. Now only panning allowed so very little gold can be recovered. This destroyed a wonderful outdoor hobby/lifestyle. Commiefornia the downfall of the USA

I grew up near Placerville and it’s exactly like that. A literal mining town in almost every facet. Hasn’t changed that much. Beautiful woods all around and smells fresh. One thing I miss about that area.

There's a you tube channel called: Ask Jeff Williams. He's super knowledgeable and passionate about gold mining as well as a very educational channel about rocks/gems etc. He's such a character too so it's not boring.

*ID LOVE TO DO THIS* just for the experience - maybe have a few grains of gold that I found myself In my country, the rivers have quite a lot of gold but its VERY illegal to pan for it in order to protect the environment - it got out of hand in the 90's and the rivers were destroyed by people dredging etc.

@Agui Nalohiki I love gold. I buy gold coins for my retirement. It's easier to buy it than go in the wild and find it. Finding gold is hard work and there's no guarantees of ever finding it, that's why it's expensive.

@@lamarravery4094 ~The commercial gold you bought could have come from a large open pit gold mine using blasting, excavators, and dump trucks. Commercial mining does a lot more damage to the nature environment than individual people working with a shovel trying to find gold.

Here in So Cal, the San Gabriel National Monument and Wilderness areas are being damaged by illegal prospecting, and the Forest Service does nothing to stop it. Trees undermined in search of ore, native fish redds destroyed in the stream…
