Yes thanks for holding off on those masterpieces for now. At least for "Poet and the Pendulum". This was probably one of the hardest breakups for this band. Know that Tuomas their keyboardist is the song writer and choreographer. Their are letters from the band, and from who they made leave the band. It was very hard on all of them. This song depicts all of what happened from the bands, and mostly Tuomas heart. Their are letters that the band and the one they let go wrote publicly to each other for all to see. Without this song Tuomas wrote, he might not be with us any longer. It was his way to deal with the pain. :(

Molly, great reaction. I dropped the same F bomb as you when I first heard Floor doing a bit of growling. Nothing to be ashamed of. Its great that music can hit you like that because that is what good music should do. That song is so powerful, you might need to strap in to your chair and have some oxygen at hand in case of emergency!!!!

All Nightwish songs provide all the emotions! You want to headband to the beats & riffs, but feel like you want to adore and tear over the vocals. That’s why it’s so easy to feel like they are all favorites.

I think you heard Floors second growl...but not the first one. As for Poet, a small amount of research will help you understand the WHY of the song. The lyrics are from Tuomas, so when Floor sings them, she is relaying thoughts and feelings of Tuomas, and being very empathic, Floor is the best. Always let NW videos run until finished. You just might miss meaningful pieces of the puzzle. The Greatest Show on Earth is 250 billion years of creation and evolution....and so much more. Again, watch to the very end. Hallo Molly, it is always a pleasure to see someone's reactions. how Nightwish is able to surprise someone again and again. I think it is wise to first delve into their way of telling stories, their music choices and what they (personally) went through, before diving into complicated songs such as TPETP or TGSOE. Be aware that every word, musical note, light color, instrument of choice and singing style is determined by what message do they want to convey. So do some research on those songs. This song is (in my opinion) about the big step from childhood to adulthood. Imagine everyone has to pass that line (in this song visualized by a spiritual/ghostly river that you have to cross one day. A river that challenges you. Which is both seductive and terrifying. As a young adult you have no idea what you will encounter and whether you can deal with it. It seems safe to stay on the child side, because growing up brings uncertainty, but then you get nowhere. Marko portrays himself here as the wild animal, the dangerous side of life, as Floor portrays herself as the siren, the temptation. Together they visualize the dilemma in life. The position of the children's choir is now also clear I assume. I would recommend one day to do "Scaretale". So glad that you took the advice to wait for the big ones. It's going to be so worth the wait, you will see. Both the Poet and the Pendulum, and Greatest Show on Earth needs a bit of homework anyhow. Understanding these pieces of work before listening to them takes it to emotional heights that still have some of us in tears, after listening to it for the thousandth time. In terms of more recommendations, Nightwish has a very diverse catalog and so a meaningful question is what do you like? Heavier? Lighter? Crunchy? Ballad? Operatic? Instrumental? Lyrical complexity and depth vs. straightforward and easily accessible? It's hard to go wrong with Nightwish but which tracks are great recommendations for you personally is an interesting challenge.

Well worth reading through the lyrics of The Greatest Show on Earth beforehand and if necessary checking out what some of the words mean first. There's two words in Latin, but all the rest is in English. Remember, the guy who wrote the lyrics comes from Finland, but there are very few English speaking listeners who don't need a dictionary to understand all the words in The Greatest Show. Don't make a choice between the Wembley and the Tampere version. You must listen to both. When you do The Poet and the Pendulum make sure you have tissues on hand. But do research the story behind it first.
