At this time, Floor was unknown in her own country. In this Dutch TV show they are all singers. Each week one singer hear the others singing to him one of his own song or a song with meaning to him. Winner is a song wrote by the guy just in front of Floor, Tim Akkerman . He wrote the song Winner about his brother suffering from disease from his birth and never complained about that.

Floor actually started the song an octave higher than the original. Henk IS the phantom. He was the original phantom in the dutch production and Andrew Lloyd Webber said that Henk was his favorite phantom.

I'd still love to see a source on that. I'm not saying you're lying, but on the internet I take everything with a grain of salt without third party confirmation. Be cool if it were true.

@@fnglert Watch the video of Henk and Joke de Kruijf, his partner when he played Eric back when he had hair. Judge for yourself. A few 'vocal coaches' have pointed it out, as well. I've never heard Sarah Brightman's version, so I don't know how she did it.

It's simple: BesteZangers does NOT have any judges or any other annoying competition elements. Just a bunch of artists playing and enjoying each other's songs.

yeah I actually talked to my mom about that after the reaction and she explained to me how it worked. I find it very refreshing so I will definitely be doing more from this show provided they don't give me too many copyright problems

Klojum That’s probably the reason why they named the show ‘beste zangers’. It has two meanings in English: ‘best singers’ but also the less obvious ‘dear singers’.

The people on the couch are not judges. They are singers, just like Floor and Henk. Well, one of them is the show host, hehe. And each singer gets their turn. The idea of the show is that each episode one of the singers sits in the spotlights, while the other singers each sing a song from his/her reportoire, while giving their own interpretation to it. Winner for example was Tim’s song and Floor sang it in the episode which featured Tim. There is also an episode which features Floor btw. The last episode is the duet episode where each singer chooses a partner and a song to sing. The Phantom was Floor’s song of choice, for the one and only reason that Henk is a well known opera singer who played the Phantom in the past and Floor admires him. When she found out that he would also be on the show she said: I want to sing The Phantom with him.

Tim, the writer of the original song, had an album titled Lions Don't Cry. Floor proved him wrong. His comment at the end was "Damn it, Floor!"

No judges, just good singers singing to one another....Person on the couch is the one their singing to, and Floor has her turn listening to the others sing to her....Floor's vocals in this show were absolutely amazing, an incredible gift to the world....Wait to you hear "Shallow"....

The people on the couch aren't judges they are singers, the show is a bunch of singers together who choose songs of theirs to sing to each other

Yep, 7 great singers gathered together and sang to each other. Not a competition. Each day one of them sits on the middle couch with the host and talks about his/her life and career and the other singers sing to that person. On the last day they performed duet songs to others with a partner they chose. This Dutch TV format has been very popular around the world and the program has been performed in many countries by each country’s own singers for years.

When doIng „Beste Zangers" ( which translates indeed as „best singers“) I strongly recommend to take the clips posted by "jenniezelf" on KZfaq as she has also included the talking / interviews before and after with english subtitles. The concept of the show is, that on one day all singers sing a song for one of them. It's a song that is by that singer or a song that means a lot for him / her. So it is very interesting to get to know the story behind each song. And it will help to understand the reactions of the other singers. Floor is singing there in German, Dutch, Spanis and English. Her "Phanom of the Opera" duet with Henk Poort is legendary. Greetz from a German-Dutch concert photographer

Great video.Actualy the show is nothing like American Idol.Is is not a competitive format.It is a duch tv show in which they group up 6 well known singers,from different genres of music. Every episode one is on spootlight,and others sing for him (her) one of their song,or a song that means something to them.By the way song Winner is a song that Tim(guy with a curly hair) wrote for his brother,who is in wheelchair. And you should definitely check out Hank singing Sound of silence. Keep up the good work.

This was several seasons into the show which is pretty good commentary on how unknown Floor was in her native country even with two successful bands, After Forever and Revamp before Nightwish. When it first started the format was a competition with the person on the couch that night picking their replacement for a gig that they couldn’t do. That quickly evolved into the format you see here with the love fest and the selections honoring the person on the couch. Floor’s performances literally blew up the ratings, her singles released from the show climbed the charts and often went to #1 and she became an overnight sensation in Denmark. For chuckles there are a lot of interviews after it blew up with the media where she explains what metal is, why she was so unknown in her own country. etc. They are a lot of fun. The entire season that Floor was on was fantastic and I would highly recommend taking some time out of your day to watch them (Denise Hofs has provided versions with english subtitles if you go to her channel). Not only was Floor freaking amazing, but the interactions between all the singers was really a job to watch and there's so much great music to enjoy. (Oh and did I mention that Floor was amazing??!! :) )

This is not a competition. They are not judges than fellow singers from the Netherlands. We have the same show here in Finland. It's very famous. All the Floor's performances on this show are excellent and this "Phantom" with Henk is just phenomenal. I recommend you to do the "Sound of Silence".

to be precise beste Zangers translated to both "the best singer" and "dear singer". and although there is a small element of winning. that element is completely arbitrary and intended only as "it has touched me the most" or even what a fantastic other version. or even more random. the winner therefore wins nothing but the respect that all singers in the program already have for each other. which may grow as a result

I've watched all of the Beste Zangers episodes. The people on the sofas are not judges, they are also singers. They are all good, but, none of them can touch Floor.

This song was written by Tim Akkerman (the guy with the curly hair on the middle couch) for his brother who sits in a wheelchair. Nevertheless he doesn‘t complain and follows his way. Therefore he is a „winner“ for his brother. When taking the clips posted by „jenniezelf“ you‘ll get all the background talk before and after the performances with English subtitles.

yes enjoyed! glad you did also, actually the first song they heard her sing was vilja lied in german to henk- the person on the couch in the middle with the host is the person of the week and the other singers sing either a song they sang/wrote/or love- so this song was special to henk

Winner is song originally by Tim, the one she is singing it to, the curly man in front row seat... this was his evening. He wrote the song about (and to) his brother, who's bount to the wheel chair (since birth)... Tim's been bragging few times during the day that hes probably not going to cry at all, that its his property, he never does... well if Floor wants you to cry you cry, resistence is futille... :)

Floor was a big fan of Henk most of her life and this had to be a wonderful event in her life to actually sing with him.

The guy on the couch wrote this song about his brother who is wheel chair bound with spina bifida. This was about the 4th or 5th song by her.

In all fairness,i know Floor has been fangirling Henk since she was a little girl pretty much. At the same time,i think she held back as she didnt know if Henk would "bring it". The crucial part of this performance happens right here,Floors reaction to Henk is clear as day 10:03 This is where Floor realizes she can go all out towards the end. If they had more time to rehearse and plan this performance,it wouldve been a different performance. Floor adjusts herself to what type of vocalist she sings with. And im sure abit of insecurity on the duo partner (from both) and "being polite" had a part in this. When Floor abit comical,eyes Henk up and down here,i think Henk saw that as a sign/a motivation 9:57

Queen Floor to D6 (the last note in PotO) - checkmate. P.S. You picked up great value AT headphones. P.S.S. Henk Poort played the role of the phantom in the Dutch version of the musical for many years. In this Nightwish version of the song he distorted his voice on purpose for Floor.

Good choice! I did consider those but the AT headphones that I got had higher reviews so that was what I went with. I'm glad you enjoy them though!

Yeah, what Marc de la RP said. This is the LEAST competitive show there is. It's really a week-long party in Ibiza where top vocalists get to compliment each other. AWESOME format for a show. Too bad no American executive would ever think to use that. Apparently, ALL Television producers over here believe that we NEED DRAMA, so EVERYTHING HAS TO BE A CUTTHROAT COMPETITION! Kinda sucks because what we REALLY NEED is positivity. :)

ok thank you. I believe I've only reacted to one American band on my channel. Everything has been European or Japanese and I think one Russian band and one Indian band. I definitely try to keep away from American music on my channel because that's all I've heard through my life other than european classic rock bands
