Context, this is from a Dutch TV show. Everyone on the coach is a professional singer. Every episode all the other singers sing a song special to a particular member of the group. In this case they young lady in red, Floor is literally singing to her.

The young blonde with sparkling eyes of joy,is Emma Heesters who Floor sang this to,as it was handpicked by Emma as one of her favourite songs,as she had only done covers up till this point,after this show she went on to land a record deal and a album was already in the works towards the end of this show. Emma were one of Floors many fellow country women and men who hadnt heard of Floor or symphonic metal,or Nightwish when they first met. So theyr reactions are being completely mindblown by how good she sings,as they are all artists celebrating music and eachother in this type of tv show. Each artist has 1 full week where they get celebrated,and this week was Emma Heesters. You should really see when Emma decided to honor Floor back,because that might be the strongest performance of this season,well as far as solo performances goes. Needless to say,and regardless of age difference,Emma and Floor became super close after this show. Sharing so many common things with theyr families etc. Emma Heesters sings Strong for Floor Jansen (2019) (with subtitles) I say make sure to have napkins,tissues closeby.If you want to react to After Forever -Strong first,i leave up to you. Floor Jansen wrote that song to her mom who suffers from a few things,the main thing being rheumatism. This is teenage Floor putting words down to seeing her mom in pain,and Floor claims she has never been able to perform the song 100%. And Emma honors this tribute to absolute perfection! Rolf Sanchez was legendary known for his facial expressions during this entire season to Floor singing. You should check out when Floor that doesnt speak or sing Spanish before this show, decided to honor Rolf on his own week in this show. The two facets of what makes Floor such a phenomenal talent right here - the technical expertise to produce whatever sound she is looking for, and the emotional sensibilities to understand *why* the song should sound a certain way. In this case of Shallow, she doesn't want to mimic Lady Gaga, though she easily could. She knew the setting was as intimate as it was and she wanted to be supporting or in celebration of the woman in red (notice how the lyrics are changed for this deliberate focus - there is no "tell be something boy* in the second verse, this song is for a woman so "tell me something girl" twice). I guess it is this simple - vocal excellence is not enough, it takes heart to be truly great.

Exactly! She can blow the doors off a 747 one minute and then in the next breath take it down so gentle and delicate you could hear a proverbial pin drop. Just exactly what the moment calls for exactly when it calls.

This show is actually nuts for showing just how unique Floor is. 6 top Dutch singers. Floor is head and shoulders the top selling artist among them, but they are all veteran professional singers with strong track records in the industry. Each week 5 of them perform songs themed around the sixth member of the crew. Most of the time they either choose a song in their own genre relevant to the theme vocalist or pull one of the choses singer's songs into their own genre. The exception to this pattern is Henk Port's rendition of Sound of Silence during Floor's week, and every single one of Floor's performances. She goes full send into each other singer's genre and SLAYS! She is singing SAMBA one week!

Yep, as mentioned earlier, the Beste Zangers is originally a Dutch TV show and the format has been broadcast over the years under various names in a number of European countries and also outside Europe. This show with Floor Jansen and 6 other great singers (sitting on the couches) representing different genres: rock, pop, opera,... was filmed in Ibiza, Spain, in 2019. The shooting took place outside, under canvases. Each day one of the seven singers sat on the middle couch with the host and talked about his/her life and career and the other singers sang songs of that person's repertoire, or songs that have been important to that person. No competition, just talking, singing and having fun with each other. The last day was a duet day and all the singers chose a partner with whom they performed a song that is important to themselves. Floor chose Henk Poort and the song from The Phantom of the Opera. Henk is a Dutch musical and opera star whom Floor has admired since she was young and his major roles include Erik (the Phantom) in the Dutch version of The Phantom of the Opera.

And all of them watching Floor are also singers. Bezte Zangers is a Dutch TV-show where the artist sings for the other artists. Their own songs but as we see here a song that was special for the other artist. Floor kills it on every performance on that show. And you will probably love all of them. Here you can see Henk Poort watching and later in that show he sings the Phantom of the Opera together with Floor.

Nothing but love for Lady Gaga, but this approach and build up from Floor really suits the context of the song so much better. It’s song about pouring your heart out, finding the courage to “dive in at the deep end”. Chef’s kiss to Floor!

Excellent point about the setting and Floor taking it down a notch......,,Floor is such a good story teller, she injects these little "emotional bullets" sighs, etc and draws out syllables at just the right time. As I'm sure others have stated, she had 6 years of formal training and you can certainly tell; she is a very smart singer......I spit my coffee out when I heard "pretty".

I like the part near the end, where the camera is zooming in on Henk, and someone off camera makes a small whoop sound. (I think it's Rolf.) Henk glances back at them, and, for a second, looks a little annoyed. "Yes. it's wonderful, but I want to hear this!" Heh...Then he turns back and you can see him getting a little emotional...

The concept of this show Beste Zangers (Best Singer) is they take a cross section of singers who are popular in The Netherlands. Those singers are there for the entire season. Each episode of the season focuses on one of the singers. All the other singers perform a song that is very special to person who is the focus of the episode. The host guides the conversation to set up one of the singers to perform a song for the person of focus. That is why the setting is so intimate.

Singing the chorus like that is soo much harder than belting it. To be able to tune that to pitch and still maintain the light mechanism just proves what an absolute vocal beast master Floor is. She is not limited in her creativity by her vocal abilities in any way, its all availible her at will. So beautiful and amazing to witness.

That "A Star Is Born" with Judy Garland you were speaking about is not the original but the second one made in 1954, the first one was made 1937 and there is even third one with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson 1976. So the one with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper 2018 is the fourth version.

Floor performed several songs on this show and was at last appreciated in her own country, The Netherlands, as not a metal country. Every song was perfect and each sung to one of the other six singers. She has several other covers on her KZfaq channel.

Floor is singing to a group of professional singers from different genres. The band suggested that Floor keep this song small and intimate. Floor respects Lady Gaga and did not want to imitate or copy her version. This show is not a competition. It is simply 7 different singers all honoring each other by sing for one another. Sometimes their own songs and sometimes a song that influenced them growing up as young children.

In case no one has mentioned it yet, the older gentleman getting misty eyed during Floor's performance is Henk Poort, a Dutch opera and theatre star who played the Phantom in the original Dutch production of Phantom of the Opera. He was one of Floor's teenage idols, so getting to perform for and with him was a huge deal for her. He became so enamored with her singing that he learned how to use vocal distortion in order to sing Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence for her, and later sang The Phantom of the Opera with her in the season finale. This has led to multiple duets between the two, culminating in his appearance onstage with Nightwish late last year in Amsterdam for the band's first performance of Phantom in 17 years.

How I became a fan of Floor Jansen? I was in the music store in 2005 or 2006, which I liked to shop at the time. At the CD stand there were headphones, where you could listen to the CD's for a few seconds. I saw an attractive CD cover from the band "After Forever" that said "Remagine". From that point on, I was a big fan. When "After Forever" released a new CD in 2007, I was able to persuade an employee from the music store to give me the big advertising poster that was hanging on the wall. The band "After Forever" played on the Earthshaker Roadshock Tour in Berlin in 2007. Floor Jansen mingled with the audience after their performance to enjoy the atmosphere of the other bands playing there. I took this chance and embraced her for this beautiful performance. I also think it's the best time for music bands that are about to break out. You can celebrate with the fans without any problems between a well-known artist or fan. When the band stopped After Forever, Floor Jansen formed the band Revamp. And later came the request from Nightwish, which meant the death of the band "Revamp". I still wear the After Forever and Revamp t-shirts, although they've taken on the washed-out vintage style.

All of the people she was singing to are accomplished singers with their own careers. Nightwish has 2 versions of Phantom both are excellent please react to both not to compare just to be amazed by the 4 different singers.

8:13 Beste Zangers (Best Singers) is a Dutch tv show where a small group of singers of various genres go on holiday together, and every evening one of them is in the spotlights and the others each sing a song for them. That could be one of their own songs, a song that they listened to as a kid, a song that has a special meaning to them, etc. In this case besides Floor there are - A KZfaq cover artist (Emma Heesters, the young blonde girl, she's in the spotlight this episode) who has made numerous original songs since - A latin singer (Rolf Sanchez, bearded guy in the dark shirt) - A singer-songwriter (Ruben Annink, the young guy) - A Dutch pop singer (Samantha Steenwijk, the other blonde) - An opera and musical singer (Henk Poort, the old guy and famous for being 'the Phantom of the opera') - A rock singer (Tim Akkerman, in the striped shirt) The host is also a famous Dutch singer. They always try to get all kind of styles into the show to get people out of their comfort zone, and that makes it a really cool show to watch. In Floor's case, I believe she sang a German song (an operetta song) in the first episode, Dutch in the second episode (for Samantha), Spanish in the third (for Rolf) and English in the remaining ones. Is it time for Phantom yet? 😁😁

If you want to see Floor do a duet with Tim Ackerman singing Shallow on Beste Zangers, you should react to it as well because it is amazing too. Really enjoyed your reaction. This series really showcases a lot of Floors vocal capabilities. I suggest you react to every one of them. And the other singers sitting on the couch too. The 2019 Beste Zangers season with Floor put this program on the worldwide stage, as it is a Dutch TV production, and had not been seen hardly at all. Floor is magical.

Please listen the same cover “Shallow” with floor but the version with Tim Akkerman in Beste Zangers! I am a Floor Jansen fan ❤️ This song is so beautiful of course, but the version with Tim, the way she handles the voice is different, it’s moore powerful, unbelievable… trust me, your heart races at a certain point. It's amazing how she can make that song her own 🥹

Can you imagine being on a sofa, so close?! A bit monotone for Floor (the colours, not her voice!) Starting off quietly, then ramping it up and up. She is singing directly at Emma on the center sofa! Also done as a duet with Tim, a different slant again. Multiple Phantoms to choose from now!

Just for context, the show has a group of singers and each week one is sat in the central couch and the rest sing for him/her. This week was Emma's turn in the couch. I don't know her career, but from the show I gather she is a KZfaqr who makes covers, that's the reason Floor sang a cover of a popular song. In the first episode for instance, Henk Poort, who is an opera singer sat on the couch and Floor opened the show by singing an opera in German (Vilja Lied) with a background music of rock guitar and battery. Emma being a KZfaqr I didn't expect much of her, but she surprised me, she is very good (not as versatile as Floor who masters multiple lanes, but good in her lane). She sang "Vivo per Lei" with Henk and did great. I recommend you watching that duet too. Not sure if Floor said it after this song or another... When asked if she more anxious to sing in this setting or in a large stadium she answered "I'll have that stadium"

She wanted to do this one with a subdued flavor because it was solo. She does another, much more vigorous, version of it on this same season of the TV show only a couple of episodes later. That one is done as a duet with Tim Akkerman, the young guy on the couch with the striped shirt and curly beard. She's in her black leather Valkyrie outfit that week. When the humming lead-in to the last chorus is building, she stands up from the stool, towering over Tim, and we Nightwish fans were all silently going, "Oh no, oh no! She's a gonna go full metal jacket on him and hurt the poor guy!!! Somebody call 911!" She did do her NW fans proud, but luckily for Tim, she restrained the supernatural forces of the Valkyrie goddess in check just enough to keep from causing injury! 🤣

Yay! That's what I thought because also the venue is smaller and intimate, it's suited it more. It was phenomenal!! And I'll have to look up that version too, wanna see her let her let loose!!

Hello again, this is a very different Floor Jansen than most people know. Recently Floor did a lot more solo projects and she keeps doing that for sure! It's defintely worth following her on this path! However, something I wanted to point out to you is that Floor is not just a great singer, which is pretty obvious, I think a good amount of the "Magic" in her singing is her acting. Sometimes it's just very very tiny nuances in her voice and sometimes it's just a simple look or a turn of her head that emphasizes her expression or the emotions she want's you to feel. This way Floor literally touches you heart and soul and she's a master in doing that, I've seen only a few singers doing this constantly in such a subtile but effecive way...

Floor is amazing, do Euphoria next. And when it comes to Phantom of the opera, you should do the Tarja version. Floor is the best but Tarjas version its so much better then floor and henks..

There is also a version of this performance on YT with intro/outro (English subtitles), worth a look. (And there are more songs by Floor in this show that have the intro/outro recorded, like the first song she did, Vilja Lied. As she was almost unknown in the Netherlands, the reactions from the people on the couch are very amusing😅)

There are versions of these song with full subs, including pre-and post commentary, but they may still get blocked? When it was Floors day, the young man in striped jacket (Ruben Annink ) said in pre-singing interview: singing to Floor? Feels like I will climb up vertical wall...😉

dont forget, lady gaga is just more famous. that doesnt mean shes the better singer. but beside that, shes just a singer songwriter like everyone else, I saw her with just a keyboard in a tiny venue. and her powerful voice cant do all those versatile vocal styles , like floor can. she worked as a vocal coach for a reason.
