Lowes sells the same things in the metal stock section. I got some to use for corners between two stainless steel backsplashes because the walls weren't quite even and there was a gap. I also got a 2"x2" pice angle stock to use as a shelf (and cover the gap from the bottom of backsplash to the side of a stove.

YES I needed exactly this thing. *update* thanks os much..I Had some gaps in my hardwood by the sliding door that was to small for traditional molding, nevermind how ugly it looks..WEnt to Home Depot and bought these 1/2 metal angles, i think they were 8 feet long and it was a perfect fit...took me a while to find where in HD they were because they are tucked away on one small area of the store where all the other metal angles are...At my HD, one 8 foot long one was like $7 as of 2023..THanks so. much..this was perfect solution..

It’s all personal preference, me personally I’d go with solid wood it’s more classic plus leaves room for contraction and expansion for the coming years. that aluminum hardware doesn’t leave enough play for when the house decides to breath and move in the different seasons hence you will need to go back and do the job twice as opposed to once think smarter not harder.

This is exactly what I was telling my husband we needed to do instead of buying the companies T-molding. So many bad reviews on a lot of manufacturer's moldings, everyone says it's just Styrofoam covered with a thin layer of vinyl. So I was asking my husband if we could just use some kind of metal. And then boom! I see your great idea! It's like you read my mind. We hope not to use any transitions between room, but I'm going to see if you have a trick for that, just in case we have to, but I don't want to use the manufacturer's off sets or molding. Thank you!!!!! Say Hi to Max! Meow!

Looks really nice for an interior to exterior transition but what about interior to interior like from tile to the wood look planks? Seems like a trailer or mobile home type of look or finish in that case IMO…and if you spray it the paint will chip off at some point right? But paying $40 for a 7 foot pice of plastic for matching moulding is robbery and I want an alternative. Our wood ones are difficult to match the color of new floor..the bare aluminum mobile home look is starting to grow on me…

@sovrgnman
@sovrgnman 2 жыл бұрын
If you understand what this vid is doing, the thickness of flooring is irrelevant. A 90° metal angle strip fitted into a 90° opening fits any normal door frame height. Simply lay it flat at the floor and glue it at the back edge. A 1/2" 90° angle would cover most floor gaps.

I like to put it in the gap so that the molding drops into it. Don't use a ton of glue so that it smears out all over the floor. You can put it underneath but then you really have to be careful will smear out. In the gap works the best.

Perfect. Thanks. I will probably do that. Do you lay the custom threshold directly on top of the vinyl and glue down on top of the vinyl? I think I have about a half inch gap between the vinyl edge and the tile/mortar. Also I was going to lay vinyl plank on my steps glue down and use stair toe caps on the front edge. I am rethinking that and now looking at doing something like Treadz instead so I don’t have the bulky front toe cap. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Just clarifying: you put the glue onto the floor in the gap closest to the door, and drop the edge of the track into that bead of glue, correct? Are you using just construction glue? Also what's the cleanest way to cut that track? Thanks so much for making these videos, they've been very helpful in our 3 room LVP project. PS: Lowe's has these available in 8 foot lengths (made by Steelworks) for only $7.50 - same 6063-T5 alloy material ..but .0508 thickness compared to .0620 .
@JonesKnows
@JonesKnows 4 жыл бұрын
I’m SO sorry I didn’t see your question when it came in!! Yes that’s how to glue it. The cleanest way to cut is to use a metal blade on your chop saw (it’s a black blade usually) or use a grinder. I just use a medium priced construction glue with instant grab.

This doesn't make sense. If you glue it to the flooring, it will expand and contract WITH the flooring. When the flooring contracts in winter, it will pull the metal strip with it, leaving an ugly gap between the metal piece and the door. Perhaps he meant to say to glue it to the door threshold not to the actual flooring itself
