On the other hand, they could've forgotten Claire never met nemesis cuz the effort put into this piece of shit makes gun survivor look like horizon zero dawn. I'm with the other person on the thread, how DARE they try to make this seem canon. The audacity. The sheer fucking hubris...btw I'm jfwy I'm sure you posted your comment sardonically if you're an old school RE fan, gotta clarify, a surprising number of people miss subtext or subtle sarcasm and take it as gospel then start a trigger war literally no one gives a shit about but them. I've had the pleasure of playing a real cab, it was very weird to be playing what is essentially an FPS in an arcade. You are dead right the control is more horrible, it's a fixed gun (think Operation Wolf or Revolution X, essentially a joystick), and moving the gun to the extreme of travel makes you move, so you can't move and shoot at the same time. This must have been around 2000-2001, as it was opposite Confidential Mission cab.

i own this for japanese PS2 and have it hooked up to a crt in my basement - it’s so short, the pacing is uneven, the guns require consistent calibration the game is just an overall mess - *and i love it*

I actually saw the arcade version of this game, it had a fake machine gun as the joystick and you use it to move around and shoot.

Played this at Galloping Ghosts in 2 player and was baffled by the controls. It’s a unique game, that is the best to be said of it.

If they do remake Code Veronica, it'd be really cool if they just added this as an extra mode, where CVX is third person and this mode is first person but tweaked to be like RE7/8 but a lightgun game.

Funny that they made a sequel to Gun Survivor, but with Code Veronica on the PS2. Crazy to think that Capcom continued this trend all the way to Umbrella Chronicles.

Ill say this, while this and survivor are fun just for the sake of the jank, RE Dead Aim is actually a fine RE game. It has like 0 impact on anything in-universe, but it's basically just proto-RE4 (almost literally according to the devs).

I'd argue it also had an unmatched atmosphere that no RE game has really matched, it still felt like a traditional RE survival horror but the rooms were dark and zombies were pretty loud mixed with a lot of ambient sounds, which made every room feel threatening. Muzzle flash from shooting guns also acted as a light source that alerted zombies making the limited use of the silenced pistol viable in an RE game. Dead Aim and Outbreak 1&2 are probably my favourite spin offs in the RE franchise.

I actually played this in an arcade about a decade back. Almost beat it, bonked my nose with the giant MAC10 controller, couldn't handle the final boss.

About RE spinoffs you could play... surely Dino Crisis counts as one, doesn't it? It's literally Resident Evil with dinosaurs, just the concept alone was so cool back in the day! Plays much like classic REs but the scares in there just hit differently y'know, I'd argue none of the RE baddies up to that point could be as intimidating as... a friggin' giant T. REX! I might be looking at it through nostalgia goggles since I haven't touched it in... well, 2 decades now but still, I'm sure it has plenty of material for a nice 20-minute video. Please? :)

They have this at Galloping Ghost! In the WAAAAAY back corner last I checked. I got to play it a couple months ago while I was there. Untranslated, but luckily it wasn't too complicated to understand. The controls were just hilarious. You'd be better off looking up Doc Mack's video of its unveiling than me trying to explain it. It's decently fun when you have infinite continues.

Resident Evil Survivor 1 got a Chinese pc version that got English translation hack, and that one is janky, like it was a Chinese bootleg. And it was coded differently, and monsters are animated differently too, but it's have the same games assets and fmvs too. So it's like a Janky PC recreation Chinese official pc port.

So many memories with this dumb arcade game. It was in my country's arcade and even on a Wendy's and I played it so much yet I hated it cuz it was so hard to control, in the arcade you used the plastic gun model to move around in a very awkward way: you needed to jerk the gun around and it was so stiff it even hurted playing XD

I mean, yeah. Realistically though, it plays basically like RE4 but with the aiming in first person with a crosshair rather than third person with a laser.

@@joegrant3607 Yep. It's guncon compatible, but the controller layout is actually better imo, because it was by all accounts (including those of the devs) a prototype for RE4's gameplay. You enter aim mode (which switches to first person), move the crosshair with the right stick, and fire with the trigger, while movement is all in third person with tank controls but a true 3D camera... So basically RE4, but you shoot in first person. The only major difference is you can strafe when walking, but only if you're sneaking. That and the camera is much more zoomed out rather than fixed over the shoulder. So yeah, ironically despite being a clowned-on side series (for good reason) with 0 impact on the core series, Survivor did actually end up MAJORLY influencing the series.

The console version is awful, despite has some extra content, unlocking it is horrible, and the CPU partner one can have is extremely dumb and only can be increased by wininng, which is really hard.And is single player only (yeah , i known it could be hard to implement since the arcade version allows players to be in different rooms, but they could just make it that they both can only be on the same room). You can change the control layout to be more akin to modern fps games, but even still, aiming is bad because you can' t aim upwards or down , which makes headshots only feasible if you are at touching distance to trigger the auto-aim and risking injury. And you have limited continues (f*** that)
