I mean that is a martini. They're mostly all liquor, if she was to make it dry she would add vermouth, if she wanted it dirty she'd add olive brine but she clearly just likes it plain. So yeah just vodka, but shaking it with ice does change the taste of it drastically. If she just stirred it, it would've just tasted like vodka 🤣 but shaking it takes some of that alchohol burn away. But it does just look like she's drinking a fancy shot with a lemon twist lolol

@@kathrinehenigman4059 A dry martini has a small amount of vermouth. A wet martini has more vermouth, up to even 50%. This is vodka in a glass.

@@kathrinehenigman4059 no a martini is vermouth and gin/vodka. A dry martini is a martini with less vermouth. A martini has vermouth in it inherently, it doesnt have to be dry to have vermouth. What she made was just straight up vodka with a lemon twist

you can make a real martini w/ Vodka though. better w/ Gin of course but plenty of people make vodka martinis and that can sell the vodka too. this is just vodka and water though lol

twist your lemon first before you wipe your glass and you’re gonna get more fragrant rim . If you do it after the vodka sport in the glass, you scent the vodka as well.

@@Samabritt73 No, a Churchill Vodka Martini. The “Churchill” part means no vermouth. The “Vodka” part is what replaces the usual gin.

That is not a Martini. That is an incredibly dry Vespa. Change the vodka for gin, swirl your glass with vermouth, then pour out the vermouth so the glass is just coated with it. Then pour in your very cold, and carefully stirred with ice, gin. Add an olive (or two, preferably an olive stuffed with anchovies)... and THEN you have a Martini. Add a splash of the olive brine to make it a Dirty Martini, and it is simply delicious. Done

Adding lemon doesn't make it a Vesp-er... a Vesper has gin, vodka and lillet blanc, with a twist. A martini can be garnished with olives, a twist or cocktail onions (making it a gibdon) It can be vodka or gin. ...but agreed, she should be at least looking at a bottle of vermouth as she makes it.

Like others have pointed out thats not a Vesper. A martini can be made with either vodka or gin and its still a martini. What you described is an extremely dry martini, and probably the way you drink it, but the generic martini has alot more vermouth in it than what you said.

The most famous martini in Los Angeles is at the Musso & Frank Grill, and they serve just straight gin or straight vodka like in this video. So no hating on Ms. Pugh.

I’d take a whisper of vermouths and swirl it around the glass and toss it leaving the slightest coating on the glass. Also use gin. And put some olive juice in it.

Florence Pugh is great, but this is a terrible martini. No vermouth, not even pointing the shaker towards France. A swill won’t dilute the spirit or get it cold enough. Drinking neat vodka is fine and all, but its not a martini.
