Her performance in Midsommar blew me away. The way she just WAILS and SOBS at a few different points…hurts my soul. I squirm and shift and look away because it’s just so heartbreaking. She’s super talented.

She got to that place by imagining her own family (who she's super close to) dead, in coffins. Midsommar was really hard for her to do, but she did it like a boss.

Her performance in Midsommar is genuinely one of the best and most emotionally deep I've ever seen. She was plenty good in Little Women too, but she was nominated for the wrong film.

She is. For most British actors it’s actually a lot easier to do something like a country or Russian accent than it is to just do a standard American accent or something like a New York accent

"Hiding" her accent? More like she does an amazing job at *doing* American accents, Russian accents etc. Americans often think that American accents are somehow the default way of pronouncing English, and assume that if you have a non-American accent all you have to do is "hide" your original accent to default back to American. It's a bizarre idea and downplays the skill it takes to *actively* perform and perfect another accent convincingly, including American accents.

I saw Midsomer with my friends before the pandemic, but I had to leave early, right before it became more of a horror film, so my memories of the movie are lots of trauma from the beginning and a nice-but-odd hippy commune

Oh damn, it is SO GOOD. I don't like horror movies at all nut I was drawn to the haunting imagery and sat through the gross parts...none of it feels like gratuitous gore. In fact the end was so good, my friends were disturbed to see me smiling at it while they were pretty shook. And they love horror.

Look... I'm gonna tell you straight up: she STOLE the show in Little Women! I wasn't surprised that she was nominated for the Oscar, at all. In almost every adaptation I've ever seen of this, Amy is played by two different actresses; one as young Amy (like 10-12 years old) and another as adult Amy (like 18-20 years old), but she did BOTH... WHICH IS AMAZING! I mean she pulled it off, too. I really believed her as a child, and as an adult. Well done, Florence!

Well I mean, ALL the actresses in little women played the characters young and old. Not just her. That being said, i totally agree she was great as always. She's the best part of every movie she's in, frankly.

@@m74d3 Yes, but again... typically in every rendition I've ever seen Amy is the ONLY character played by TWO different actresses, not one, because the age gap is so obvious... It's not about the fact that every actress played young and old versions of a characters, it's about the fact that Pugh's performance was the only distinguishable one, in terms of age difference. I'm a huge fan of Saoirse Ronan, but young Jo and old Jo are pretty much played exactly the same in that film. Does that make sense?

The first movie I saw her in was 2016 movie Lady MacBeth, based not on the Shakespearean play but the Russian novel. Check it out! She's very good and the cinematography is gorgeous.

The claim that it should be pronounced “Budapesht,” as Hungarian's pronounce it, is like suggesting you must pronounce Paris “Paree” because that’s how it’s said in French.

GIven the American pronunication of Notre Dame, I'm sure there are a lot of people who agree with you. I think it really depends. Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, St. Germaine, Boulogne, Calais, Arkansas - there are a lot of places whose names we pronounce differently to the way they are spelled from an English standpoint. Though to be absolutely fair, if you're not French or in France, saying "Paree" would come across as the height of pretentiousness.

Her acting in BW is what brought the movie together. I otherwise wasn't convinced by Scarlett's acting, like the scene where she's asked how she kept her heart when it was more so her sister who did..

Well you have to remember Scarlett was psychologically broken, while Florence was controlled through chemicals, that could be the only explanation other than acting as to why it's more remarkable that Scarlett kept her heart.

The sister, I think, had a long history of mental illness and did commit suicide. P knew Florence's character peripherally as that happened and was drawn to her sadness and chose them for that reason. He was on a college campus among many young people and could have found any number of potential victims.

Its also part of the media game. Theres alot of money passing hands now to keep her a rising star. Shes 'hot on the scene' and that means profit.

Midsommar and the character she played in it was almost enough to completely turn me off from Pugh as an actress. I could not stand that movie and her character wore thin very quickly. But she blew me away in Black Widow and ended up being the best part about the movie.

I'm getting old, but I think she's one of the best film actors I've ever seen. If you want something more "serious" than the MCU, try Lady Macbeth or Midsommar.
