Too perfect of an ending song for the Guardians of the Galaxy Trilogy!

No matter how many times I hear this song, it still sends chills through my body and raises my skin in goosebumps.

The perfect song choice to end a trilogy. Was never tired of this song when it came out while I was in high school.

Is about a person who has finally let go of their past and is facing a new beginning. In the first verse, the protagonist used to hide from her past, trying to avoid confronting it. However, happiness finally hit her "like a train on a track", and she could no longer ignore it. She then killed her past with kisses and fled from it. The chorus is a call to leave all of one's emotional baggage behind to face the future, represented by the horses that are coming. The reference to "dog days" is used to describe oppressive and unbearable heat from ancient times when it was believed that dogs went mad under the intense heat. The phrase itself is symbolic of a long, difficult period. Hence, the expression "the dog days are over" signifies the end of the struggles and hardships that one has faced in life. In the bridge, the protagonist confesses that she never wanted anything from the person who caused her pain except their love which they could not give her. The second verse describes how happiness had hit her unexpectedly before, but it was also taken away from her suddenly. While this was a painful experience, she now knows that her life has changed for the better, and she is ready to face the future. I’m in the marines and I haven’t seen my family in over a year in a half. I have a daughter who turns 3 in 2 weeks, I’m going home to see her, my plane lands on her birthday 😊 this song played in my shop the other day and it made me tear up. I can’t wait to see her happy little face again!

This song found me exactly when it needed to. My Mom passed away in January from cancer. When I saw GotG3 in theatres and heard this song, something about it hit me. That it’s okay to have joy even after so much hurt. That you can dance freely, as if no one was watching, and shout with pure joy. I ended up listening to it after spreading her ashes and I could feel that peace. That sense that it’s okay to feel happy again, and that’s what she wants me to feel. The dog days are over and all that I’ve got left is the happy memories, the motivation to run fast, and leave the sorrow behind. For those still in the dog days, or those who think they’ll never be out of them. The dog days WILL be over, and you’ll find that joy and freedom to dance and shout.

It was one of my favourite songs all those years ago, hearing it so often nowadays makes me realize how much I've grown and how much has changed... but my appreciation of this song is everlasting, more than 10 years on! It hits differently today, though. It's nice to think about pretty much a new generation of people that will be navigating through the crazy times of their lives while listening to it.

No matter the years passed these words carry the hardest of loneliness, the desire to belong and the joy of letting go of the ones you once thought your beloved ones.

I loved this song as a kid, but I always interpreted it as a song about panic and fear. But seeing it used as a song of celebration and acceptance in GOTG 3 was weirdly therapeutic.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 brought me to this song. Never was a fan for it until that movie. Just seeing the team be "disbanded", going on their own journeys, seeing Star-Lord coming back to the MCU, and seeing Nebula, Drax, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon dancing and smiling to this song brought me so much tears and joy but it was definitely Drax dancing with the rescued children
