👉 Building the roof for my garden kitchen
In this part of the project, I'm focusing on the roof of my garden kitchen, which was previously exposed to the elements without any protection. With the new half-timbered roof, I not only want to provide protection from rain and dirt, but also create the opportunity to install a PV system later on. Here are the most important steps:
1. setting the posts
I used four solid 12 x 12 cm beams as posts, which are mounted on hair post anchors. These are set in concrete in KG tubes to ensure maximum stability.
2. install cross braces and rafters
The cross braces and rafters provide the necessary stability and support the weight of the roof. I used both strong rafters for the main beams and narrower ones for the counter battens.
3. attaching the barge boards and OSB boards
These boards form the basis of the roof. They were carefully measured and cut to size before being fitted and reinforced with OSB boards.
4. welding sheets and end plates
To make the roof weatherproof, I applied welded sheeting and finished the edges with anthracite-colored metal sheets.
5. installing the rain gutter
To drain off the rainwater, I installed a high-quality rain gutter that works reliably even in heavy rain.
