Florida auto insurance rates are the hightest in the country, and they keep getting higher. In this video we discuss why auto insurance rates are so high in Florida, whey they are rising even more for many in 2023, who the increases are effecting, and what we did to save over $1,000 per year on our auto insurance.

Hey my name is Adrian, I hope I can help. I am an insurance agent here in South Florida, and I specialize in auto insurance. The agency I work for operates in multiple car dealerships around Broward and Dade, and trust me, we have more experience than any agency in the country. In the past 3.5 years I've sold 740 policies and I am nowhere near the top salesperson in that timeframe. I don't say this to boast, I say it to show I learn something new everyday and I recognize there are people who know more than I do. I will not promise you a lower rate, but I will promise that I can help you with your insurance policy. I work with many different insurance companies, and I can insure ANY situation you can think of. Driving with passports, cars under other people's names, and any other weird situations. I am not limited to only auto insurance, I can do commercial, life, health, etx. My phone number is 786-451-9549, I can help practically 24/7, if it's late just send me a message preferably. I have my 2-20, 2-40, and 2-14 Insurance licenses. I hope I can help someone here.

Good video. Florida resident here too. I moved here about 5 years ago from PA. In PA I had Nationwide insurance (I used them for about 20 years with no accidents). When I wanted to transfer my policy to FL, my car ins would have been $1500 more so I switched to Progressive which was a few hundred less (than in PA) for the same coverage. Two years later, our home owners insurance massively went up (we had it thru a separate agency because it was cheaper at the time). We priced around and have been with State Farm for three years. All of the policies are combined (full coverage auto for 2 cars--2010,2017, homeowners, and my husband has an additional policy for something). In 2021 it was $325/month, 2022 $328/month, and this year $395/month (that's for all of the policies combined and spaced out/$500 deductibles). No auto accidents/tickets in 20+years and no home claims. Yes, I think the price is high. However, when I factor in that my house is worth 30x what my home was in PA and my homeowners insurance there was much much more....I'm cool with it. In addition to weather damage for increased prices in FL, one also has to factor in inflation for replacement costs, and the $billions in additional claims that companies have to cover for other cities in states that promote theft and arson. Someone has to pick up that tab too! My tips on keeping costs low: price compare, combine polices, look over your policies (there might be things your paying for that you dont need or are duplicated in something else), and vote accordingly (one can disagree but this is the easiest way to save money overall). Good luck and blessings to all.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your story. You are clearly a very reasonable thinker. It is very true that most of the people that are complaining about 30% increases in their insurance aren't saying anything about the 30% increase in equity in their homes! Your tips seem to be some great ones as well. Thanks again for sharing!

We pay $260/mth for car ins on a 2015 4 door sedan with only 95,000 miles on it & bought it with 42,000 on it. Needless to say, we don't drive often or far. I'm currently disabled & unable to work & my spouse works from home so we drive maybe 3x a week at most just to the grocery etc. We've never had a ticket. We had an accident 2 years ago when we were literally stopped on the highway due to traffic and someone slammed into the back of the car. Their insurance paid for the bumper replacement. The car is also paid for and not sure if that changes the rate since you no longer owe the bank any $. We've lived in FL 7 yrs. Our deductible is $500 and considering bumping it up to $1000, but $1000 is a lot to come up with all at once. We do have rental ins and towing. We come from the Midwest where the same ins was $75/mth. I've been trying to figure out a way to lower our rate since we do only own 1 vehicle & the accident was not our fault, never had a ticket and only drive about 500 miles a month, if that. We currently have Progressive. Any ideas on lowering costs would be helpful! Thanks all!

Great video guys! My wife and I are planning a move to Tampa in the winter, and although this is newsworthy it isn’t surprising to me. When we were in Florida back in March to visit family, we saw more of the usual; heavy traffic, fast drivers, following to close, and little or no turn signals. :) We we’re rear ended in the freeway during stop and go traffic in Ocala on our way from Tampa to Gainesville. Thankfully we had our rental car covered under our Amex Platinum card, which fully covers rental car insurance. What I’m also interested in seeing is the trend in homeowners insurance costs following the recent changes made in the Florida State legislature. Overall, we will be getting a price break for our cost of living by moving to Tampa from Washington State. Right now one of our expenses is paying a largely inflated car registration fee to fund light rails from Seattle to the east side. We are paying over $700 per year to register our two vehicles.
@Explorcation
@Explorcation 9 ай бұрын
Oh wow $700 a year to register vehicles seems pretty insane. You'll save a good amount on registration here in FL, although that will likely all go into the inevitable increase in auto insurance. Overall we know the cost of living here in FL is still better than many places, so we try not to complain too much. We hope your move this winter goes smoothly and that you enjoy the Tampa Bay area as much as we do!
@katenpamr863
@katenpamr863 9 ай бұрын
You will have an initial $215 flat fee at the Tax Collector from moving out of state to Florida. They will want your title switched over to a Florida title which costs add'l. We had one vehicle 2015 when we moved here in 2016. Our entire DMV bill was about $500 and you only have 10 days to register your vehicle or pay an add'l fee. Once you have a FL license plate, your renewal is like $40 a year which is very inexpensive, but that first trip to the Tax Collector (what they call the DMV here) is a shocker!
@Bicyclechris
@Bicyclechris 9 ай бұрын
@@katenpamr863 Thanks for the tip! I don’t mind paying that to get registered, because I pay for more than that every year just to renew our vehicles. Gas prices are also far lower as well, I’m seeing that in the Tampa area gas prices are around $3.78 per gallon for regular, whereas we are paying around $5.29 per gallon up here in WA. Couple that with our 10.3% sales tax, and the other sky-high costs, overall our family will be seeing a significant cost of living reduction once we move. To put it i to perspective, my wife and I live in a suburb pf Seattle, near Microsoft and Nintendo HQ and with a combined income of around $300,000, we are living in a lower middle class neighborhood. We live in a smaller 1,700 sq. foot home built in the 1970’s which cost $640k in 2018, and now would sell for in the upper 800k price range. Florida offers a far better style and cost of living from our perspective, even if we took a 20% income cut to move to FL.

Thanks so much, Rhonda. We often wonder if that time will come as well. We've watched St. Pete slow become more and more of a big city, with skyscrapers going up all over the city and cost of living going up right with them. For now we still can't think of a place we'd rather live, but who knows what the future will bring! If we end up spending most of our time traveling, it may make sense to have a home base that's a little less pricey than Florida. But then again, it's so nice to always have a warm, sunny place to come back to!

We have Gieco and have had for over a year. Had Progressive previously and they jacked our rates up so badly, we had to change. That being said, it is a pain to do, but everyone should check into insurance rates at different companies every 6 months to every year. Insurance rates vary and flipping back and forth can get better deals. Check brokers and check companies on your own. If you just stay with a company they increase rates knowing you're too lazy to search elsewhere.

Florida is a “no fault” state. I’ve lived here (Manatee county) less than a year and not sure how/if this impacts auto insurance. About four months after moving here I ran a very unscientific experiment regarding the amount of advertisements on TV that are from lawyers. Watching the FOX 13 news from Tampa on a Tuesday morning from 6 to 7AM during each commercial break 3 out of every 5 commercials involved lawyers and, specifically legal services for auto accidents. The amount of advertising on TV and billboards for legal services is quite dramatic for someone moving from another state.

Just out of curiosity, what's the model of your '66 Mercury. My dad's had a few 60's Mustangs over the years... I love them, but I've always loved the Cougars a little bit more!

We need to get the public transportation (trams?), better busses, dedicated bike lanes, and walking paths enhanced in downtown St. Pete. The idea is to get rid of cars in urban St. Pete and start extending good public transportation into the nearby “suburbs”. Walkability St. Pete.
@Explorcation
@Explorcation 9 ай бұрын
Personally, we're all for it. We like using public transportation (when it is clean/safe), and we love biking as well. That said, we realize that a lot of people don't enjoy either of those things, and I think the general population needs to be in favor of it. I think younger people are generally more in favor of it and that it's trending more in that direction. Perhaps the general population would already support it. If not, maybe in the not distant future?

Do you have the right to pick the type of insurance if you own your vehicle? I’m in MA, and I never ever get full coverage. It’s just to much money, & not worth it for an older vehicle to me

Yes, we do have the option to go liability only here... unfortunately the cost for us was still around 75% of full coverage.

The explosion of Suburbia in a Hurricane prone region is the problem. Large cities and rural countryside fair far better in a Hurricane but tightly packed mcmansions with 100k of new vehicles parked in the driveway... is a real liability.

Wow, interesting that Geico came in lowest. I worked for Geico many many years ago (we're talking early 80's!) and at that time it was considered "elite" auto insurance. Very interesting video. As we plan to move to Florida next year it's good to be prepared!

GEICO was never really elite but they once liked to promote that perception. I worked SIU for GEICO after retiring from LE and would not recommend them to anyone unless they didn't have a choice.

Yeah we were honestly quite surprised by it too. As of now it's still the lowest. Their online ratings are mostly ok, but the comments on here have definitely made us think twice about it. Considering we don't drive a whole lot and haven't had an insurance claim in 8+ years, we'll probably just end up with going with them because they are still the cheapest by $200+ per year.

@@Explorcation if they are significantly cheaper for the same coverage it will likely be worth the risk. As a fraud investigator I saw they treated customers poorly when the claim was not completely straightforward but they will pay the straight forward claims quickly and do not wish to be sued. They are a solvent company, which is extremely important.

Looking on the of the inside of the box. If there are about 16.5M licensed drivers age 19+ in FL and 20% don't have insurance. That's about 3.3M people getting away with it. So why not be part of the majority of the 1 in 5 people that saving money by not having insurance. Apparently the enforcement and penalties are not very severe. As a reference In Tennessee, where I am from , almost 25% of drivers don't have auto insurance. Which indicates an enforcement problem, considering my auto insurance is only $497 per year. I drive a 2013 Fiat.
@Explorcation
@Explorcation 9 ай бұрын
It would be interesting to know what the penalties are for getting caught driving without insurance... and what the breakeven point would be (how often you'd have to get caught to pay the equivalent of what you'd spend on insurance). I can't say we have any intentions on taking that risk, but I can certainly understand why some people do. I agree that these ridiculously high numbers definitely does suggest an enforcement problem.
