Insurers are in the business to build reserves from premiums to pay claims for insured losses. This is a high risk state with re to certain property perils. Insurance carriers are in business to make $, they aren’t not for profit organizations. Some years they do not make $. If they can’t make $ in a state they will leave. Citizens (state run) wasn’t charging premiums based on the true risk and as a result didn’t have enough premium to pay claims and other insurers are having to make up for it.
@Sldoficn
@Sldoficn Ай бұрын
@@sharongallagher7730Citizens needs a better business model. They are the worst insurance company one can get. They never “deny” claims, they just find a way to lie about how much it costs to repair so that it’s always below your deductible, forcing homeowner into a lawsuit situation. If they just paid for initial damages as they are responsible for, they’d avoid the expensive lawsuits.

Hubby and I are old Florida natives. He actually is a home builder. What we did was purchased raw land with lots of oak trees and a water source, built our home, which is exactly what I asked him for, is basically a shotgun house. The entire cost of our house was 7,800. (It cost us 200 more than the house to put in water, but we made sure of two things. One, the well hits the aquifer. Two, it's got a hand pump included for when the power goes out. I can actually pump water into our house, the summer kitchen and the guest cabin, from the well.) We have no reason to purchase insurance because if something took out our entire house, we can just rebuild it. It costs less to replace our house then it does to pay for property insurance for three months. The people who are moving in are obviously spendthrifts. They won't be able to keep the property that they have purchased and as soon as a big bad hurricane comes, most of them are out anyway. Florida wins!

My mother in law who's in Florida, probably several years ago, just dropped insurance all together. I thought she was nuts when she first did it, but given the fact she's been in her house for well over thirty five years and has "weathered" many a storm and several major hurricanes (none were directly in line with her home) and hearing the ridiculous premiums ..... I don't blame her for rolling the dice. I really don't. This is basically an advertisement for North Carolina.

I'm self-insured on my lake-side house here, and I am not moving back to SC where I grew up in the 1960s (SC has a state Income Tax and a high poverty rate). But here is a funny joke that can be used against us crackers. Question: Do you know why Florida does not fall off into the Gulf of Mexico ? Answer: It is because Georgia Sucks :-)

Let's hope she doesn't experience a fire. If she is well inland & nowhere near the river (keep trees well away) she should be ok with the risk. But liability is another concern that she should also take into account. But a fast moving strong hurricane can still hit her home & do extensive damage. If that same hurricane can drop anywhere close to 20" of rain that can cause flooding anywhere in Florida.

Lived in South Florida since 1984. Moved out in 2021, went through many many hurricanes and every single time if you could get an adjuster to come out and assess your damage, the insurance company would give you at least 30% less than it actually cost to fix the damage. Once they underpaid everybody’s claims they would run to the state and lobby for a big increase for the following years insurance premiums, and the state always gave them what they wanted. It’s a total racket and a shame.

I have lived here in south Florida for 20 years and it is now just insane. 2004 Ford F250 never had an accident or ticket $3200.00 Hime owners insurance went from $1200.00 to $6000.00 never had a claim. The only thing that has not changed is my property taxes $1600.00 but that’s due to being homesteaded. If you’re a snow bird your taxes will follow the market and that’s a lot of money. Any kind of home repair is 80% higher here a new A/C system in 2007 was $4500 for a high end Lenox system that system today is $30,000.00. The electric is expensive we keep our house at 80 degrees yes we have a pool but it’s a high efficiency variable speed pump and we still pay minimum $250.00 a month. The only things Florida has going for it is no income tax, personal property tax, homestead exemption of $50000.00. The contractors are all scam artists the builders are hack national builders building junk just for profit. Florida was beautiful now it’s a nightmare, we call it little New York, all rich have moved in and pushing us who lived here for years out. I am looking at moving to North Carolina or South Carolina. Your video was a truly honest representation of Florida I realize you’re doing the video to boost your sales in South Carolina.

They each drive a tesla and even keeping them charged up, their electric bill was $45.00 this past month. They have had a lot of growth, and have to deal with a lot more traffic, but they try to time their shopping and activities when the traffic is lighter. They are very happy there, and have absolutely no plans to move. Good luck to you all who are moving out. I'm sure you won't have any problems selling your home.

Still, I saw the writing on the wall 15 years ago and sold last summer. Glad I did, 3400 new homes are being constructed down the street from me. Both times screwed. 50 Hurricanes, 2 floods, 2 lost houses, 1 tornado that caused the house to shift and a broken gas line. Drug dealing out in the open, theft, vandalism, and an endless parade of stupid. YOU made the right choice. Florida is an outdoor insane assylum run further into the ground by an idiot. Clearwater is owned by the Scientology Cult. You'll see the Amish/Mennonite in full regalia at the beaches. It is the Pedophile Capitol of America and while it's gorgeous, it's WAY too much drama. I started watching wondering if this was going to be insightful. When, at the 2 :08 mark you say Florida accounts for 79% of all insurance lawsuits "while the other 51 states account for 21%" I wondered if this was a joke. I'm a homeowner in Florida. 7th generation. I've mapped the State for years with a map-making company, so I'm familiar with Florida at a depth and detail you can only imagine, and, in my experience, a lot of what you say here is wildly overstated, or represents an extreme example that you're presenting as "normal," when it's not. Crime and traffic vary greatly county by county, and even mile by mile, and crime is lower in most of Florida than most states in the country. Where I live, it's practically non-existent. And trying to get people worked up about lightning and rain? Seriously? I have very reasonable homeowner policy and car insurance, and the rates haven't gone up more than a few % in the past 20 years. My neighbor had a tree fall on his house in a hurricane and his insurance company had a crew working on it WHILE the storm was still blowing. They paid out in a few days and gave him a generous settlement. So, yeah, "good luck trying to collect." Oh, and I just paid $12k for a new roof on my 3BR home. If someone was quoted $42k, they should call the police, unless they want it shingled with gold and diamonds. I understand that you're trying to talk people out of moving to Florida because you want to sell them homes in SC, but come on, man.

When I saw this, I could not resist making a comment. I moved to Florida in 1981, have disliked it all 40+years I have been here. I was originally from Northern Michigan, then Southern California, then Northern Virginia, then Arizona, last Florida. I can honestly say Florida is the worst of all of them. I stayed here because my elderly parents lived here. They have since passed, so I will be leaving soon. Looking into Tennessee, or Kentucky. Would actually love to get out of the south, but would not be able to handle the cold and snow of Michigan. I certainly would not ever want to live in S.Carolina. This man is correct on how expensive it has become to live here. If one does not like beaches, there is no reason to live here. Its too hot, humid, too many bugs, traffic is horrible. I am tired of worrying about hurricanes every summer as well. It is a nice place to visit, especially in the winter months, but do not come and live here permanenly, you very well might regret it. Having lived in Florida most of my life I know first hand the good and bad of Florida. It's hot to say the least, how ever most days are sunny and where I am in Central Florida we have a slight breeze most days. I have been a homeowner for over forty years and bought and sold more than a few homes. Choose your city/town carefully. St.Pete was great in the 60's, but the taxes and traffic had my Parents moving us farther north. We live in a small waterfront community that takes pride in preserving what we have. Great schools, parks, an hour from Tampa, Clearwater, Ocala, or Orlando. The quality of life is here for now. Hopefully it will continue for future generations as my Grandson now runs his own business here after graduating from College. Yes insurance can be an issue, you have to shop around, but our property taxes are reasonable, and did not double-unlike my taxes on my home in Georgia.

I can attest to the lightning strikes. In my folks 30 years living there they have been struck twice now. Once was at least 20 years ago on a tree in the side yard. About 4 years ago they had a new bulkhead installed because the old one had failed (they had just paid off the house and had to refinance). Two years later and the ground for the new bulkhead seemed to have already sunk down by about 2 inches. Well long story short I discover 14 out of the 15, 18-8 5/8' threaded stainless steel tie back rods are just vaporized at the cribbing. Mind you this bulkhead was about two years old at this point. Insurance would not cover it and the folks are getting old so I had to dig it all up and re-thread varying sections of new rod through the pilings, cribbing and into a matching coupler. It was a real trick lining that all up since the pilings had already shifted some. Still blows my mind how a lightning strike did that. It superheated the rods causing them to lose their anti-corrosive properties and rust out rapidly. The back yard is 75 feet across. 5 dead men with three tie-back rods each. 14 out of 15 fried then rusted into premature failure.

Funny I would never leave (I'm also native Miami) Florida. My taxes haven't gone up much although my house has. My Dad bought a house in North Carolina and that summer Hugo ripped the roof off his house. (Not shingles but the rafters and all then slammed them back down). I now live in North Central Fl. near the Santa Fe and Swanee rivers and love it. My 700K home has a 2200.00 tax bill every year. That's not outrageous.

We saw the changes & the influx of new people in 1980, and thankfully we left Florida forever. I had the best childhood growing up in safe sunny Florida a long time ago. My family survived hurricane Dora, I remember. I am an only child, so when my parents died in 2003, I sold my childhood home, with a pool in the backyard, carport fenced on a corner lot, no regrets...... My sister is in Real Estate semi retired, so I'm aware of some of what you mentioned, especially the lack of insurance or the astronomical amount you have to pay out. With car insurance I'm thinking 'no fault' has really caused such crazy pricing, it's unfair if you have never caused an accident yet you are paying out as if you did. Surprised you didn't mention the sinkholes, there is a shocking map in google that should make anyone think twice about buying property on a lime shelf. Hope more people see your warnings, they are eye opening and require careful thought.👍

Americans do not know that Congress did a sleight of hand with insurance. Americans do not understand that it was insurance instruments that facilitated the Great Financial Crash. Americans do not know that insurance has lobbied themselves a “deregulation deal” where Congress let them out of capitalizing insurance policies, when no one was looking. The only television outlet that broadcast the dramatic devastating change was Bloomberg business news put it on their bottom ticker tape. The year was 2009. Now our premiums go to the C-Suites and 3rd party reinsurance hedge funds on the stock market, and we are factually being forced to prop up institutional finance with our insurance payments. Insurers then turn around and all use the same 3rd party’s tech software to cheat on claims. All of this activity is fleecing property owners, and has been classified as a cartel, with AG’s and FTC looking into it. The situation needs to be addressed nationally, before it takes down more than the American citizens and our economy.

I just turned 60 and plan on retiring later this year. For health insurance reasons, however, it will be 5 years before I can escape from this icebox that offers retirees no tax incentives (granted the state doesn't tax social security, but 39 other states do not tax social security either). I'm looking at two sun belt states close enough to Florida (sorry Jerry, SC is not one of the top 2 states) that have a much lower cost of living and offer retirees very generous tax incentives (both income and property taxes), but also have much warmer winters than where I am now. 14-15 months ago, when I came to the realization that I was going to be priced out of Florida because I wasn't going to have the financial resources to compete with the seven plus figure club relocating to the state, I was incensed. I was very angry, bitter, and resentful (I'm sure a lot of the angry part was having to suffer through another long, harsh winter. Hopefully the areas of the two states I'm looking at relocating to don't become overpriced. If that happens I'll be left no other alternative but to move overseas where my money will stretch much further.
