Even if it was a glorified scrimmage, that would make it even worse that his team lost 63 to 3. But you’re right Matt, had FSU won, the bowl games would matter. In fact if FSU won, he would have been saying that was the true national championship game. FSU had their 3rd string QB, the rest was 2nd and 3rd. The coach admitted they didn’t prepare or practice enough, they focused more on the playoff situation. All that combined, FSU should have opted out. If Danny Kanell is trying to say that bowl games don't matter, then why did he play in FSU's bowl games when he was their QB? I have little sympathy for FSU. If the attitude of Kanell (as a former FSU player) is indicative of the type of attitude the program has, then no wonder their were so many opt-outs. I do feel bad for Jordan Travis. He deserved to play for a better program.

I hope FSU understands how this one game made them look as a program. No doubt a lot of their best players probably sat out cus they didn't want to get injured, which is ok in my book, but u can't help but wonder if they sat out cus they were mad they got left out of the playoffs. If that’s the case, it makes it look like they sat out so they could say “oh if we lose it's cus we didn’t have our best team out there“, which is an utterly pathetic excuse. That would be a perfect way to side step the fact that u actually didn't deserve to be in the playoff. That manipulative psychological trick is working on some weak minded critically absent minded fans, but that will not be how this team is remembered. It’s probably the weakest, most spineless thing I've seen from such a prestigious program. And how did it pay off? UGA made SURE they embarrassed fsu. They made sure no one could look back at this game and question if FSU should've made the playoffs. Doesn't matter that your best didn't play, cus we beat u so bad it wouldn’t have mattered if they did. Made them look like children. Cus that's exactly what they are. Now no one will remember this fsu team as the undefeated team that got unjustly left out, but they will be remembered as a soulless sackless sad excuse for a football team from the top down. Their little mischevious plan backfired. They could've gone out there, took the brutal loss, and been remembered as a great team that just wasn't at the same level as UGA and bama, but now they have to carry around this added stench of weaselly weakness hopefully for the rest of eternity.

FSU players are not dedicated to the team or they would not have jumped ship. Keep in mind that the 2nd half of the orange bowl, UGA played their 2nd and 3rd string, yet moved the ball easily against FSU's next year team. That does not bode well for the FSU depth chart. So, there are more problems with the FSU program than a "portal". If UGA had kept their 1st string on the field the entire game, we could have expected a triple digit score. It is the disloyal FSU players that opted out and left their team helpless against an upset and angry UGA (and rightfully so) that created the problem. The UGA mascot and the UGA punter were the only two UGA players that didn't play. Both need to transfer to the portal.

@mattbegreat it just came to me what CFB, bowl games and CFP will ultimately become. Some variation of this. The two mega conferences the SEC and the Big10 beat up on them selves all year and establish a running ranking order of each. Those teams then will face off in bowl games for a battle of the SEC and Big10 championship bragging rights. The playoffs are basically the SEC vs Big10. No idea how the Big12 or ACC fit into this, maybe according to Chip Kelly they don’t because they are tier B power 5 conferences? Media decides everything.

As a big life long Uga fan that has never liked Danny Kannel I agree with him… its the transfers and opt outs that make it mean nothing and make it a glorified scrimmage. If the whole team minus the injured qb showed up and was out to prove they belonged on the playoff then I would disagree. This team got absolutely screwed because the committee didn’t want to choose between Texas and bama. The tough decision was how do you put bama in over a Texas team that beat them. For me it would have been easy. Fsu should have been 3. Bama over Texas at 4.

Kanell has zero credibility. He's a crybaby fsu Homer. Cries about anything against fsu and he's anti sec.

I remember when Bobby Bowden would go anywhere and play anyone. He would play the elite in their house in a three year series and only get one game back. This is not the Bobby Bowden's FSU. Over the past year they went from a who cares about FSU to the No.1. hated school. What conference wants this crap? Big 12. Love to see SEC & Big 10 ignore them if they get out of the GOR. It is like a woman thinking she is a 10 and everyone else seeing her as mid.

Oh it matters! If you're a Florida St recruiter - might want to see if you can enter the transfer portal as well. If you're a undefeated team with a half ass schedule - that game mattered. If you're a top tier highschool player- it mattered

Danny was FSU's QB back in the day. It really hit him hard.
