Florida Winter Camping 2021 | Lake Kissimmee State Park | Central Florida
Our 2021 Florida Winter Camping trip in our Winnebago Revel continues as we head down and over to Lake Kissimmee State Park.
We explore the massive park on our Rad eBikes.
We take our kayaks out for a paddle in the alligator infested waters only to be kind of chased by one.
We cook our simplest camping meal yet...
And we tell you why we love this great park in Central Florida.

35 degrees day/ 15 degrees for low tonight here in western Pennsylvania,sure would love some of that warm weather! But in due time during summer I’m sure I will be complaining about the days of upper 80’s and into 90’s! 😂 And as far as those alligators,that would definitely make me uneasy, I’m used to kayaking with no worries but I guess if a person frequently visited those types of areas or lived there then you might just get used to it! We love cooking over fire as much as possible ( hot dogs,kielbasa,s’mores, mountain pies of many flavored varieties , and heated strawberries with marshmallow cream on them just slightly toasted) ! Dang now I’m making myself hungry !😂 Well off to work ( railroad duty calls )! Thanks for sharing and as always safe travels!

Enjoying a heat wave in NW Iowa after our cold spell. Highs in the mid to upper 40s. May not sound warm from your vantage point but feels pretty good to us. Alright now for the important stuff, ketchup on a hot dog? No mustard? Owen, you philistine. Lol. Thanks for sharing. That’s a little too close to the water with alligators for this Midwesterner. A little vanilla ice cream would be great on those warm apples.

Hello! Loved your video. We camped at Lake Kissimmee State Park last year, we enjoyed the cow camp that they had there, a peek at life in the past. We kayaked down that canal and spotted an enormous alligator coming towards us, we stopped and it submerged! Yikes, we got out of there lol, we headed to the lakeside but the water was too rough. We absolutely loved our site, but I don't know if we would ever want to return because the sound of the air boats annoyed us to no end, roaring to 11:00 pm 3 nights in a row!
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle 3 жыл бұрын
Wow, we didn’t experience the air boat noise. We visited the Cow Camp the last time we were there and meet a really nice young cowboy that loved his job. We were both pretty nervous about kayaking down the canal, I was very thankful I didn’t see any alligators. Owen saw one and that’s when we decided to head back. Thanks for sharing.

You've got more courage than either of us have... no way would we have gotten anywhere near that water! I don't even like swimming pools... too many dang humans in them! We are now cool out... the high is in the low 70s, but there is a little sprinkle of water in the air, so it may rain, which is always humid, but hella better than single digits and no power or water, I tell you what! And I just have to tell you this, please understand, you are great people, but Maggie is the star of your videos! Her on that rug was the best! 😆 oh... and what the hoo ha is "boogered"?!? I looked it up and I don't think you meant "an actor or actress who will always be known for one role he/she played early in his/her career". Be seeing you!

Thanks for another adventure exploring FL State Parks! Your hotdog roasting reminded me of past adventures with our son and his family. Those times of roasting hot dogs and sitting out under the stars are some of our happiest memories when the kids were younger. We told stories, made S’mores and laughed until our sides ached. If it was too humid or too buggy, we retreated inside the camper (post bath time and in our jammies) to play Phase 10 or Scattergories. It truly is those simple times together that stand out as the very best of times. I have hundreds (maybe thousands!) of snapshots of our adventures and it might be time to share some of those with the kids again. One reason I do so love photography is that sometimes all it takes is one good picture to bring the memories tumbling out. We used to ask our grandkids what their favorite thing they did while we were camping. Often - without fail - they all three replied, “Hanging out with you guys!” Nothing is more rewarding to a grandparent than to hear your grandchildren say they love being with you. Camping offers the chance to spend some quality time and to make priceless memories. Looking forward to YOUR next chapter in your grand adventure. Until next time, from NW Florida

Well, Maggie, rather see you safe in the van than having those ole gators eyeballing their next snack. Well Owen I think the trailer is a good idea to bring along though I wouldn't want to pull it either but having your bikes and kayaks sure make it look fun. Though I don't like alligators. Here in San Diego we have cool nights and warm days, between 60 and 70. Perfect winter weather. No humidity and hardly any rain. Are you finding the campgrounds are full? Stay safe and I sure enjoy watching you both and Maggie!

Wow, 9% at 70 degrees inside and 86 outside is pretty awesome! My biggest grip with the Revel is the small lithium capacity but this isn't bad if you travel daily to recharge. If you set it at 76 or so you might easily get a/c through the night with battery enough to spare for cooking, etc. That's doable!

Good decision to let Maggie nap while you were out playing with the alligators.😳 Loved the dinner over the fire...did you use Duke’s in the slaw? Y’all are so amazing! We don’t really worry about getting lost on the water, we both are very aware of the routes we take and being able to make it back, so far we’ve never gotten lost. We are loving being able to leave the AC on for Maggie, we are still testing out how long the batteries will last so we don’t leave her for very long. There were a lot of armadillo’s at this place it drove Maggie crazy. Thanks for following along, it is so appreciated.

I love watching you all! Just letting you know that you can relax a bit around the gators during the winter months. It continually amazes me how you find these great Florida state park sites with electric hookups with no advance planning this time of year! How do you do it? Do you just surf "Florida" on ReserveAmerica and then take off to whatever is open that night? I just tried that for tonight, (3/1), and found a bunch that say "First come, first served", but only two that allow you to actually book a site, and they are a 7 hour drive out into the Florida panhandle from where you are. Do you just head out early and try the "first come, first served" state parks? We've loved our stays in Florida, but they've all been booked 11 months in advance. Any more though, even that is almost impossible. Guess I need to restrain that overwhelming urge to plan ahead!
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Roger it’s Owen. We’ll put together a quick video to answer your question since so many keep asking us. But yes, we use ReserveAmerica’s website (not the app). We search for a park near where we want to go and if it’s not available we click on the tab to show other parks for the same date, then click on the map option. It will pop up a map with a red X where you wanted to go and all the parks with availability around it. It gets tricky but that’s how we do it. We left home on a 6-week trip to Florida with only 12 days booked. Just last week we extended it another week and booked 3 great sites using this method. It used to be you needed to be on at midnight but a recent change means the openings show up when they are cancelled so you need to check often during the day. We have not used first-come sites at all. Those show up when you’re booking same day. Book at least 24 hours out and they don’t show. So we pick our prime spots, book the state parks we can find and fill in the gaps with national park service sites and sometimes county sites. We book some FSPs by changing sites as often as needed... we try to get at least 2-3 nights at a park but many times end up changing sites every night. That’s easy for us in the van but even still not ideal. It can be frustrating but with enough drive and patience you can book FSPs no more than 2 hours from your intended route. 3 years now we’ve done this and we know it works. Hope it helps.

@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle That is very helpful Owen. Thank-you! And yes, I think that would be a great, very well received video. I'm not familiar with FSPs. I assume "Forest Service Park"? (Search turned up "Ford Supplier Portal", LoL!). Are those Federal parks like on recreation.gov? btw, I recently came across an old 2016 post called Fabulous Free Camping in Florida on gonewiththewynns.com .
