I show you how I stitch tent stitch with 2 strands over 1 versus stitching 1 strand over 1.

I am so new to cross stitching, I didn’t even know what a tent stitch was. When I heard flosstubers mention it, I thought they were saying “ten” stitch. Lol. Thanks for the demo. 👍😀

I’m attempting to relearn the nuances of needlepoint after about 30 years and wanted to say THANKS for the best explanation of the difference between a half and full cross stitch. Wish I had selected your video first instead of suffering through 8 unnecessarily confusing ones. I’m sure I’ll be back for more as I continue. Thx again!

The tent stitch looks so much smoother than one over one. I can’t see to do one over one crosses but I have done tent stitch since my mother bought me a kit from a magazine when I was eight - I stitched a Rose for her. I could see and feel to do that on faces and skin. I will have to experiment. Thanks Danielle. x

You convinced me.. when I start my HAED pattern on 28 ct I'm going to be using the tent stitch.. hands down. I was sort of dreading starting but doing it in tent stitch eases that dread a little bit. Thank you for the hint.

How did that work out for you? Did you like the finish look with tent stitch? I’m thinking of doing (what would be) my first HAED.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have been considering doing a HAED someday, since I love detailed BAP projects, but was afraid I would give up too much detail doing the tent stitch. But, I was also afraid if I used full crosses I would never complete it! Also, I used to needlepoint, so am very familiar with the continental stitch. So thank you again for this video. :) Also using the tent stitch 2X1 I can use the loop method to start!! :)

Thank you so much for this video. I started Mira's Snow Queen today and am considering what I want to do for her skin. I refuse to do full crosses 2 over 1 on 32 ct fabric...but I would seriously consider doing half crosses. It was great to see the comparison right next to each other!

Thanks - I stitched one over one for the face in my Celtic lady - looks awesome - however, I used the wrong color - (3 or 4 pale pinks) - in one section and had to take those out - Oh my - it was very difficult! had to be soo careful not to cut the fabric. I think I'll go with the tent stitch next time. This was the stitch used for 'needlepoint' where you have a stamped or painted canvas, and you use yarn for the stitching. Good video - keep 'em coming!

Wow I didn't realize anyone ever did a full cross all at once. I always do half across (left to right), and the other half on the way back (right to left) to keep the back neat and tidy. But I guess to each their own. I always do a full cross on any project- right now one of my Northern Expressions is 1 over 1 on 40 count with a massive LED magnifier clamp on my desk.
@allyelly15193 жыл бұрын
A full cross is called the English stitch. Working half a / and then going back and completing the X is called a Danish stitch or method - both are great and interchangeable depending on how you move around to make your stitches.
@Hannah5912 жыл бұрын
Doing it that way I think uses more thread overall so it's best to do half and come back but it's not always possible in some designs.

In the half stitch, with two strands.....if you put your needle down between the two strands it will keep,the threads from twisting. So, up with two strands....down through the two, it separates the strands.
@dianay29096 жыл бұрын
Would you do a video showing the same length of thread being used on 1 over 1 vs tent stitch. To try to compare how much thread they use.

@margm42 жыл бұрын
That’s amazing. Never heard of tent stitch. Seems basically half cross stitch that I’m familiar with. I always have done full cross stitch, sometimes one at a time, other times half stitches then complete them. Maybe it depends on fabric that the magic works? I shall have to give it a go. Thanks. 🇦🇺

Thanks for the tutorial. How do you do a half stitch on two over 1 tent stitch? Xx
@Stitcherista6 жыл бұрын
Corina Coley to me, half stitch is the same thing as tent stitch. And the tent stitch I showed in this video was 2 over 1. 2 strands of thread over one hole in the fabric.

Tamie Neal I have never done that!!!
@tamieneal23436 жыл бұрын

Hi - I’m after some advice please. I’ve just started(only a few stitches in) my first ever huge project on 32 count evenweave - I started doing full stitch and I’m already “losing the will to live” with it. Can I do the whole thing in tent stitch? Will it still look the same at the end? I have only ever worked on 14-ct so this is all very new to me. Thanks :)

You could do tent stitch. I would do three strands if you do tent stitch.

If you do rent stitch on 14 count I would use 4 strands. And since 4 is an even number you could do the loop start.

I am starting a new HEAD next year. They call for 25 count 1 over 1. I was thinking about using the tent stitch for this. Would you use two strands for a 25 count? I found in my stash the 25 count fabric. I normally use 18 count Adia, but that would be to big. Let me know your opinion. Wish me luck. Lol
@Stitcherista6 жыл бұрын
Laura Gissenas yes I would do two strands for a tent stitch on 25 count
@ExitSiign5 жыл бұрын
The HAED patterns are based off of 25ct 2 over 1 full cross. At least, one of the early model stitchers used to use Dublin linen...but with evenweave (lugana) many people find that configuration too bulky to do confetti so they do 1x1 full or 2x1 tent. But I've seen such a range of counts...some people use 2x1 full cross on 28ct, even.

Good video but then again this wouldnt be "Cross" stitch. It'd be "Half" stitch. oh and by the way, I watched this on a small android cell phone and I could see the difference in coverage. Thanks for the video though, as I was thinking of doing a good part of a full coverage HAED with tent stitches, I certainly now will just do cross stitch and if it takes longer- so be it. I dont cross stitch to see how fast a project can be turned out anyway! PS still love your cardigan sweater coat. Maybe I should take up knitting instead!! lol
