I usually only railroad the top stitch but I lay the thread in the direction I'm stitching it then railroad. Doing it this way is just what makes sense to me personally & I love seeing other ways people are doing things & getting the same result. Thanks for sharing! (& since I'm binge watching your cross stitch tutorials right now I'm trying not to comment on every one & bug you 😆)

Oh my gosh...who knew? I've stitching for over 30 years and never heard of railroading! I do use a laying tool, thanks to one of your previous videos (I'd never heard of that either...I've been living in a box!) Thank goodness for Floss Tube!

I had learned how to railroad a few years ago when I was just beginning to use silk floss and higher-count linen. Not long after that I quit stitching for a couple years, and when I recently started back up I didn't even think about railroading. This was a good reminder to make that a habit again. Thanks, Danielle!

It was interesting to see that we railroad differently. For me the way you did it would twist the threads where it comes up through the fabric. I lay my threads in the direction of the leg, then railroad down through it. I don't always railroad my stitches but will do it for white, thanks for the tip

Agreed...I do the same. The method in this video does cause more twists in my opinion.

That's how I do it too.

Oh my gosh. Thank you so much. I was just struggling on a Prairie Schooler with a ton of white stitches last night. Thought my stitches looked like crap. I am definately going to try this. Thanks again Danielle!

Wow! Had no idea what railroading was. Thanks for the tutorial. Maybe you would do a video of cross stitch terms and meanings as well as lesser known stitches? As always love your channel.

I railroad not all the time but if I'm struggling with stitches or white and even black sometimes it gets to be like second nature and quick and easy. I usually only RR top thread. I do like it.

Thanks for the video. I knew about it, but never knew about it. Does that make sense. You’re right it’s great for white thread.

Love all your tutorials! I would love to see the laying tool video. How long ago did you post it??

Yankee Creek Stitcher it has been a long while. If you go on a computer and go to my channel there is a search bar at the top and you can put in a search term and it will bring up any video I have done with the term in the title

Hi! I know this is an old video so I hope you don't mind me asking this question. When I try and railroad my stitches, like you showed in the first method, my floss tends to unravel. Have you ever experienced this, and is there a way to avoid it?
@Stitcherista3 жыл бұрын
I have not experienced that.

Can u do this wit 3 strands
@Stitcherista4 жыл бұрын
I use a laying tool with 3 strands and make sure they lay straight.

Really? THat's what railroading is? HAHAHAHAHAH. Yeah. ok, NOT what I thought it was. ;) I thought it was when you did a whole length of half stitches, then came back the other way and did the other half. Sort of making a 'railroad' track. Uh huh. OK, then! I never claimed my logic made sense! Thank you for the tutorial. I've been having a bit of trouble lately with 'messy' stitches and its been driving me up the wall. I do sort of use my finger as a laying tool of sorts - and it does help - but its hard when you're using a small frame, or stitching in hand and only have one hand to actually work with.
