A fat third is a wonderful idea. Bravo! Having to purchase a fat half for a chart that needs a tad more than a fat half can be wasteful and expensive. And sometimes I will choose another chart because of that. Perhaps a fat sixth, rather than a fat eighth, would fit into the mix, too. Smaller cuts give people an opportunity to try out a fabric and expand their horizons. Thank you for providing so much education to the stitching community!

Yes indeed, bring on the fat thirds. Recently I have been stitching on higher counts, smaller projects, often using fabric pieces from stash. But fat thirds will be perfect for the larger pieces that often tempt us. I look forward to exploring this possible range. Happy Easter, Nicola! 🙂

Fat thirds is fabric is absolutely brilliant! There are so many samplers that just don’t quite fit on a fat quarter of 40 ct and to have to buy a fat half just doesn’t make good fiscal sense. At least not for me at my time of life. If I had an LNS then I could get a custom cut but it doesn’t work as well purchasing online.

I was so excited to see your darning sampler, Nicola! I learned to darn at an early age from my Lithuanian grandmother (born in 1886) who was a men's tailor after immigrating to the US in 1910. I recently stumbled upon a German darning sampler from 1912 in a local antique mall. It's quite large and beautifully framed and preserved, but now I'm curious to see the back of the sampler! I may just have to now that I've seen yours! I primarily bought it as it reminded me of my grandmother, but in the back of my mind, I would like to reproduce it as an ode to her and the young stitcher who created it! Hugs, Candace

That’s a very interesting sampler and the needlework is so beautiful. I think it’s a great idea to sell linen and a fat third sounds good for me. I’ve just returned to stitching since I retired and although I used to work on 18 count Aida, I’ve now made the transition to linen but I’m using low count so need a bigger piece of fabric. Thankfully the little gems are fantastic while I’m practicing and I’ve worked out that Agnes Husband, Mary Woodward and Ellen Barber will all fit onto a piece of 19” x 27” linen if I use a two inch border. Thanks for sharing another interesting video.

Hello Nicola! It would be lovely to order hand dyed linen from your shop! I don't know exaclty what is a fat third in cm, because I am italian and we don't use the Imperial Unit system... but when I buy linen I buy at least 1 meter X 1 meter or 1 meter x 1.80 meter, either Sotema linen in Biella (they have amazing quality linen) or Zweigart linen. I prefer to buy a bigger size of linen and cut it myself, as I do stitch reproduction samplers, the bigger the better! I think that the best thing if you are going to sell linen is that you have one size (fat third) and if somebody needs a bigger measure can contact you and ask for it, if it is available. Perhaps you may add a conversion chart for european costumer. I personally don't mind to order linen that is alrealdy serged. Happy Stitching!

Fat thirds are a perfect size for sampler stitchers! It would even allow me to stitch 40 count more often. I often stitch higher counts to avoid buying a fat half. I could give my eyes an occasional break if fat thirds are an option.
