Gary, my suggestion is to finish the part of the trumpet you have started, add the word TooT above it and frame it as if it is sticking out from the side of the frame, as if someone stuck the tip of the horn in through a doorway to toot at someone. ;)

Gary, my condolences on Louie Armstrong! I once made six wrong starts on Paula Vaughans Summer Welcome. I gave up entirely and a year later, I received it fully stitched and framed from my mother for my birthday present.

Very interesting about your time in Africa

I think we've all had a stitching disaster (or almost one). I think the partially-completed piece would make a great project bag - give it a functional use, but it's still that visual reminder we all need to "measure twice (or five times), cut once".

Oh my goodness! Summer! But, I thought you were going to say she got into your project bags! Thank goodness!! Your flight out of Amsterdam reminded me of my TSA days. I understand in your case that there was not a breach, but whenever there was at my airport, we had to rescreen passengers who were already at the gates. That was recreating hundreds all over again. Anyway, you made it! Love the photos! Such wonderful work you and your team does! I did know about the protests before you left for the trip. Trust me, I prayed for your safety. Thank you for always sharing your trips with us. Never bored. You two take care and enjoy these summer days 🌷

Gary, with your Louis Armstrong piece can you get the whole trumpet and his hands on your piece of fabric? If not, what you already have is certainly a recognizable image so perhaps make pillow or the front of a project bag or some other useful item? Amy, your Swiftie design is great. Be sure and tell your niece that it has traveled the world, Africa and back again. I find your travel stories intriguing and enjoy learning about new places and cultures. You could make the finished portion of Louis Armstrong into the front of a project bag…frame it with material. I think Gary will go along more smoothly with the restart and pattern keeper. I find your travel stories fascinating.🦉🧵🪡

Gary, don't feel badly...I too started a large sampler with a very thick, very detailed border. I got more than halfway across the top when I realized the fabric was not big enough... I've also had two instances where I oriented my fabric wrong to start...and had to freg. Plus I also started one on the wrong side of the printed fabric ...and had to frog. I'm fairly experienced stitcher, so just know that these things happen to all of us! I like the suggestion that someone made to make it into a project bag though! So wonderful to see the two of you again!

I read so many stories from our missionaries and leaders who are part of the organization I work for, so many challenges in their nations economically. When I get in any new village farming photos that I think you may like to see, or of the clinics, I'll send them to you, just as a matter of interest.

Here’s a thought. Perhaps make his face on the right side of the fabric. Divide the horn that you have completed on the left and the face on the right by his name, Louie, that goes in a straight line going from bottom to top. It would look like an interrupted picture. Hope you can see the vision.

I was loving Gary’s Louis Armstrong! Hope you find the desire to restart the piece, found it to be beautiful. Amy, loved hearing about your work trip. Your passion for what you do comes through like a bright light. We lived on a farm in Kansas many years and in our crop rotation was milo, same family I believe as maize. So anything farm related has my attention. Miss that life. Glad you were safe, your airport experience sounded like a bad movie.

Great flosstube from the project progress to Globtrotting story. My dog once got up on the counter and took a small pizza! 😂 It was going to be our dinner😢. I thought she would be sick but was fine the next day too. For Ideas not to use 😂 - I wonder if Louie can be stitched a bit more. Enough to give the impression of his hand and head. Like a fade out. ?? Could be an artsy feel. I’d probably UFO it myself but it’s an idea.

Great catch up and some beautiful stitching. Sorry about Louis Gary, shortage of fabric is a nightmare none of us want. Touch wood it’s not happened to me but ……! Loved hearing all about your trip Amy. Being married to a farmer and knowing about those challenges it was really interesting. We have only done a soyabean/wheat rotation for quite a while but think this year we are going to have to introduce maize again. Anyway, happy stitching and thank you for sharing.

I have a suggestion to save Louis! I noticed on a masterpiece painting Chris Cross Stitch was doing I believe "In the Park", there was a background of the painting and only a tiny portion was actually stitched. I believe this was a miniature. I think it would be cool to cut and finish the edges of what Gary has completed, then stitch only the remainder on a new piece of fabric. Mounting the previously completed piece on top of. I also thought it might be neat to use a slightly different color of fabric like a greyscale to do the remainder. Therefore, he wouldn't lose any of the work to date. He might want to finish a page so he has an even border around the edge to match up. What do you think? It might be tricky placement wise, but would be well worth saving the project.

I love the idea of framing Louis Armstrong piece, but not a a reminder as Gary mentioned, but to encapsulate the great stitching. It can be used as a conversation starter, or even better looked at as an abstract work of art. Amy thanks for sharing the information on your project(s)in Kenya. Are other countries looking to adopt those. rips as well?

I enjoyed Gary's comment about possibly not taking peoples advice about the Louis Armstrong project. I've stitched over 30 years and have experienced a couple projects that I have given up on because of the paper chart being a challenge. Your relationship is a joy to watch. The stories you told about Kenya are fascinating. Loved the pictures!! Happy Stitching!!!

Hi Gary - Hi Amy You could take what you have stitched on Louie Armstrong and make it into a Pillow. That is what I would do. I had the same thing happen to me one time - I went to start The Nativity by Mar Bek - Serendipity Designs. It takes 5 separate pieces of Fabric - 18 Count. I went to start the second Panel on the 18 Count Fabric. Guess what? The Fabric Piece that was cut specifically for Panel 2 - the lady at my LNS went by the Design Size instead of the Fabric Cut Size in the Directions. Two of the separate fabric pieces was totally cut wrong. I had to get two New Fabric Pieces that was cut the right size. I did not have to pay for them. I was not real happy because I had my weekend plan to start this project especially the second Panel. It was like starting all over. The lady that cut my fabric wrong - she quit or she got fired - one of the two. She also cut fabric wrong for some of the other customers as well. Gary - I do love Wonder Woman - This is turning out so beautiful. She is so pretty Gary. Amy - I love all of your WIPS especially your Dimensions. I just love this one. Amy - your Trip to Kenya was so interesting. Wow. I am so glad that you got to your Plane just in time. One time I was in an Airport flying somewhere - and there was a lady with 2 or 3 small children. This lady and her children did not stay in the waiting area where she was suppose to get on the Plane at. They kept calling her name over the Loud Speaker System and I even heard her name being called. They kept calling her and calling her. Her and her kids did not show up until it was too late to get on the Plane. The Plane was still on the ground but they already put the Steps away and it was getting ready to take off. This lady was beside herself and she was arguing with the lady behind the desk. The Lady behind her desk ended up calling for Security Police. The Security Police came and he talked to this lady. She wanted her money back and they didn’t give her money back. By the time I got on my Plane that lady with the three kids was still there talking to the Police and the Lady behind the desk. It was her fault. She should have stayed in the waiting area but she didn’t. Thank You Amy for Sharing the Pictures of your Trip and of the Corn and the other pictures of what you was showing. Thank you both for your video. Oh Gary my heart went out to you. To be honest I always measure my fabric when it comes in. Just in case there is a glitch. My mother got me in that habit as I think it happened to her. I would frame it, you worked hard on it so it deserves a place. Amy as always love the pieces you are working on and see them really coming on. Really enjoyed your information on your visit, so interesting hearing about what is involved. Ugh on the flight issues. Last year I ordered a Mirabilia's Echo Lake. When I ordered it, I selected the add-ons for the kreiniks, waterlillies, beads and fabric. I hesitated about the fabric because it's a Wichelt Linen and I really dislike how stiff it is, but I really liked the look of the model and gray can be tough to get right. The option on the website clearly said the fabric cut would be a fat quarter (typical for a Mira, right?). I went to start the piece, opened the fabric and thought "this can't be right". The packaging was marked as a fat eighth, which was what I was holding in my hand.. but it was in no way big enough for the piece. Unfortunately since it was a couple of months since the package had arrived, I no longer had my receipt to see if I had paid for a fat quarter or not. I'm only grateful that I've stitched enough Mirabilias to have recognized immediately that my fabric wasn't going to be big enough, or I'd have had the same scars that Gary has... 🪡👠

Gary why dont you finish his hands and then turn it into a project folder or bag.
