Good overview of various fabrics. Never fast forward through a Stitcherista video. One never knows when a gem like "all the bugs can go back to hell now" will pop up. Too funny.

Thank you for this video. Very helpful. After 30 years of not cross stitching (more of a quilter), I didn’t realize how many different types of fabrics there are now. Can’t get use to the linen/even weave. I will just stick to Aida 16 and 18 ct for now. Linen has too many threads for these old eyes. I look forward to more of your very helpful and informative videos.

The stiffness in any Aida or linen is just starch and easily removed by washing (or dying). And it's quite helpful for stitching in hand.

I stitch in hand. I roll the fabric on the left side to hold in my left hand. It's so easy to roll it in or out depending on where I'm stitching. It's not great for large pieces but works for small and medium projects.

Great video! A couple of points. Hardanger is not only done on 22 count but on other counts as well (not on Aida). Most Hardanger I have done is on 28 count. The weave on WDW fabric is looser and makes it very difficult to work with. That is probably why you don't like it (I don't either). The problem with using two strands on 36 Ct is when the piece is completed, it is going to look very heavy. However, everyone should stitch what makes their heart happy.

First of all, what the hell is with the mine ant in the middle of winter!? Second I love the look of laguna but my eyes aren't great. I assumed the snobby stitchers always trended to making the tiniest stitches possible. I'm not a fan of 14 count Aida because it seems so "big". When I do I usually use 3 strands. Right now I'm working on a 16 count and stitches are noticeably smaller. You gave me the permission to do 2 over 2 on Lugana because it made sense! The stitches are bigger but the fabric is still so smooth and tight.

Great video, thanks a lot for the explanations on fabric. I was actually wondering what 32ct linen you had that looked so stiff? Was it a Zweigart Belfast or a Wichelt? Or something else? I heard a lot about the Wichelt linen being stiff and am wondering if Belfast would be the better choice... Thanks, Dunja

I don't know if you can help me but I just ruined my 14ct Aida with magic marker I thought I had the cover on good but in this case I didn't it bleed thru the whole fabric what can I do to save it or should I start over? Thank you for your help.
@Stitcherista
@Stitcherista 5 жыл бұрын
You could try to spray that area with hairspray and then try to gently rub the magic marker away. I got a pen mark out of a piece of fabric this way before. And then I washed the fabric to get the hairspray out. If that doesn't work, you will probably have to start over.

great video, holy cow, I wouldn't have picked you to be 40+, I had to go back and make sure I heard you right, I would have picked you for 30 to mid 30's, I thought you were only a couple of years older them me, but agree with the jobelan/ lugana, I was all about jobelan, but then I got lugana and that's my new favorite, because I find it easier to see the holes and it doesn't have as much sheen to it, I am one of those crazies that is doing a haed on 28ct 1 over 1, it's only a story keeper, and Yer linen slubs bug me to, stitches don't fall as even as lugana, and the opal lugana is the best, gotta love sparkles.

I did a beading tutorial video. I use size 10 beading needles for beading. As for cross stitch, 14 count aida or 28 count evenweave I use size 24 tapestry needle. For 16 or 18 count aida or 32 or 36 count evenweave I use size 26 tapestry needle, and then for the higher counts like 20 count aida or 40 count linen I would use a size 28 tapestry needle.

Could you please explain if you're going to stitch 2 over 2 in a high count, such as 28 count, and it's going to look like 14 count, then why not stitch on 14 count? Thanks.
@Stitcherista
@Stitcherista 4 жыл бұрын
The holes on evenweave and linen are smaller so some people like that look more. Plus if you have fractional stitches to do in a pattern, like three-quarter stitches or a quarter stitch, it is easier to do on evenweave than aida, as there are more holes in evenweave.
@mibelloaleman
@mibelloaleman 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for replying and given me such a great explanation. If I may bother you again, how does one know which fabric count to use? I am about to start a Van Gogh pattern, which calls for 14 count Aida, so should I stick to that or consider evenweave in smaller count, like 20 or smaller (although terrible for my eyes)? Thanks so much.
