Welcome to Steph's Stitch-With-Me video! A lot of our wonderful viewers have been asking for a tutorial on how Steph gets "such neat stitches" & she thought it would be easier for her to show you rather than tell you. So here ya go!
If you have any questions at all, about anything she talks about in this video, please comment below & she'll answer your questions to the best of her ability! Also, please forgive her newness to this format of video. She did her best!

I can see were railroading makes a difference and stitching it is something that I would have to take time to to enjoy I think it’s easier when you have a lot of confetti stitching Terrell Road because you have to slow down your time for the confetti stitching so railroading would be really easy to do thanks Stephanie for making this video it makes sense

I have been railroading for years, you can get the same effect if you use a laying tool but it is much slower and almost requires you to use a qsnap or scroll frame and a lap or floor stand because you need to have two free hands. I've been using a snag nab-it ever since you and Pam first talked about it on flosstube. It is definitely a game changer if you want perfect stitches. I just wanted to say thank you for all that you do to encourage the cross stitch community. Happy Stitching! ~ Beth (fellow thread licker)

Hi Steph..thanks for the video..I’ve been rr my stitches for a long time , but i never just rr the top stitch..might make my stitching a bit faster..also thanks for the snagnabit..a new tool that I definitely need.. much better than frogging and redoing a stitch.. the only other piece of advice i was given a long time ago is to very lightly moisten your thread before putting into the needle.. it relaxes the fiber and you get much less twisting..if you take a sponge that is almost dry and run fiber over it is enough moisture.. cheers ..hope you’re having a wonderful trip!

Thanks, Steph! Watching you use the dagnabit tool was helpful. I've been using another needle with a couple inches of thread in the eye to do the same thing - to straighten stitches that decide to go wonky. Will have to get a dagnabit. Railroading is so helpful! Also use a laying a tool, but mostly for longer specialty stitches.

Sell out on the Snag Nabit tool!!!! 😄😄 Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video, as I was one who had asked a few times to see how you stitch!!! I appreciate your hints too!!! 😊 So you don't do the loop method when threading your needle either....hmmm...I wonder if that shortcut that I do, makes the floss more twisted. I love the way your stitches lay. You did great!!! Thank you my dear!!! 💗💗

Thanks for the great video Steph! Back in the 70's when polyester was popular I found a tool very similar to the Snag Nabbit that would pull the "pulls" to the wrong side. It also worked great on sweaters. Thanks for showing how this tool is used for cross stitch. Your explanation of railroading was excellent. Have a wonderful and safe trip to the Netherlands and I'm looking forward to any videos you will be able to post.

Nice video. I started railroading years ago when I (I think) I read about it in a magazine. And I was railroading on my fiery julbocken piece (Modern Folk Embroidery) while watching you demonstrate going "yep, yep, sounds right to me". Interesting about the snag-nab-it, I thought that was more for if you say accidentally pull the tail to the front. I didn't realize you could use that to tidy up stitches. And you're so right, it is just cross stitch.

I love your tutorial!! I have a question though. I have done the railroad technique myself at times but since seeing your video and how amazingly great my stitches lay I'm going back to it. I have had a habit of pulling and holding with my left hand when pulling my stitches in and I notice how you just stitch with your right and leave your left hand off of the stitching....my look better your way! Just one question that I hope you answer please....when you railroad you take your needle "under" the two threads and then make your stitch, I always go between mine with the needle down from the front....do you think it makes a difference? I sure hope you and Pam have a great time......wait a minute, how could you not have a great time!!!! So happy for you both to travel to what I'm sure is going to be an amazing place!!! Enjoy and make wonderful friends and memories! I love you two and always enjoy your show. Thank you for if you answer and just thank you for the opportunity to enjoy stitching with y'all. I watch your video again and it just clicked for me....I heard the word "direction" this time....you were telling me the direction of my stitch! My Mom always told me to listen! This old woman and old stitcher learned a lot! Duh! I have railroaded with the splitting going in the direction of the stitch but thought you were just always no matter what going in one direction so to speak! I already use the snagnabbit and love it. Please do more tutorials on how you get your stitching and Pam's to look so great! My eyesight and shaky hands want to slow me down anyways so I open to learn. Thank you so much. I know you are right now enjoying your amazing time on your trip and I wish you all days filled with much fun!

Absolutely loved!!! I don’t railroad.. been stitching since the mid 80’s, but I may try. Your stitches do look amazing! I am going to have to get one of those tools. I am basically stitching on black right now, so it may well come in handy. I do have several questions that can completely wait until your jet plane makes a return trip to the USA. 1. I would like to see how you put your fabric in the qsnap. That is what I use, but I don’t fold over before I snap it in. 2. I got a new snap about 3 month ago, and it really seems very tight. I can’t even turn it cover to make it tighter. Is there a way to loosen them up? 3. Just making sure ... when you are using DMC, you go all the way right with a half stitch and then all the way back with the other half, yes. But when you are using died flosses do you do that also. It seems like with the lights and darks on the same thread would not be seen, so that one confuses me. 4. If I use the loop method with DMC, is this going to change the railroading? Now I have so many questions, you can wait until the New Year to answer! Enjoy your trip!!!

Hi Kathy! Thanks so much for watching! I'll do my best to answer your questions here, but I'm also keeping notes for a Part 2 video to follow up a lot of these great questions I'm getting... 1. I lay the fabric over the Q-Snap and then clamp it in. The only reason I would need to fold my fabric over is if I have an excessive amount of fabric that it would be in the way if I didn't fold it. I'll make a note to demonstrate this in my follow-up video! 2. Q-Snap clamps will loosen over time. The more you use them the looser they become so just give it time. Fresh clamps are tighter than tight, which is how I like my fabric. The tight tension in the Q-Snap helps my stitches lay better too! 3. Yes, I stitch the same way regardless of brand/type of floss. I don't feel like I lose variegation by stitching that way with overdyed floss but if I did lose any, the quality of my stitches far outweighs the amount of variegation I lost. That's all personal preference. 4. I don't use the loop method, but from my understanding, no, it would not change how you railroad. I hope my answers helped! Please let me know if you need more clarification! ❤️

You did good! My goal is my back to look as good as my front. Do you weave the end of your threads into existing threads and snip it off?🥴

Hi Patti! Thanks so much for watching! It seems as if you and I share the same goal...I love having a neat back! And to answer your question, yes, I weave the end of my thread into existing threads on the back (I always go through twice to secure the buried threads) and then snip the excess 😊
