She was listed as unattached how would he know? Also this is just a random track and field meet, not the us championship, not the world championship, not the olympics, etc. Also this is not ESPN or NBC or BBC lol. It's flotrack. This type of "announcing" is normal for them. Been that way for years.

@@nickhudd2011 It's track, the announcer might not even be getting paid. Even for flo wrestling, which does very well they don't use professionals all the time. They use local school broadcasters or none. The idea that an announcer is going to know a HS freshman at a local college meet is ridiculous.

Agreed. She stalked the pack, and executed her attack perfectly. She took hearts along the way, too. Her positioning sucked, too, but it didn't matter... the can of whoop-up was NOT going to be denied.

Her biggest adversary is going to be injury. The #1 thing that prevents athletes from reaching their full potential is injury. Most athletes are clueless on proper warm up and stretching and cool down and maintenance of their bodies. When you are young, you feel so bullet proof and just don't truly understand how much strain you put on your body especially when you are pushing human limits. I hope somehow she gets connected to people who truly understand the proper way to warm up, stretch, cool down, and maintain her body to prevent injury.

I bet she also ran a tad slower the first lap because it's a banked track and she might not have been used to it. First time I ran on one (Armory in NYC) was somewhat like a treadmill, but different enough to be unnerving.

Honestly seeing a young girl compete at this level is not surprising grace ping did the same thing a few years ago. Unfortunately when these girls hit puberty they slow down... (she is by far the skinniest one)

What was really impressive is she probably ran longer than any of them. She started on the outside lane and was on the outside for most of the race. Super impressive.

It evens out as the start spots are staggered accordingly to make up for it in these shorter races. She was definitely very impressive for sure.

@@sherrilofting7241 But there were 2 runners in the same lane before the turn-in, I don't know what happened there. Did one runner go farther outside than she had to, or the other came inside before she could? No mention of disqualification but maybe that came later.

@@davidquinn9676 In order to avoid running 20 or so races (note this is the second womens 800m race, not the fast race, this is the second fastest race, the minor leagues per say) they run a few extra people sometimes, and that puts two people in one lane on the stagger.

Was the 2nd heat, one of the slowest of the entire race, not to mention this announcer has to announce all the heats of all the races, 100s of races during the day, so he didn't know what was at the time a nobody in a nobody race?

The announcement should be centered in the runner who was last at the beginning of the race. How she gradually overtook one runner at a time, and finally came out to be the winner at the end. That is the most exciting part. I have to go back and watch it the second and third times to really appreciate this runner's ability and strategy.

I ran faster than that in High School - but not by much. I was also assigned as the training partner during part of our Junior year to the lady that turned out to be the Indiana High School champion, Lorrrie Sweigman - who ran a 2:18 to win that year. This was in the 880 yard, not the 800 meter - but the lengths are only about a half percent different.

Sophia's time of 2:06.69 in the 800m is breathtaking considering she is a high school freshman! There isn't a track fan now who isn't aware of her and her great potential! She is now one of the leading female high school runners in the world and perhaps the top freshman on the planet!

@@EdinburghMayhem freshman is 9th grade. Normally highschool is the last 4 years before university 9-12th grades. Gradeschool is Kindergarten thru 8th grade, some separate and have a middle school which is 5th thru 8th grade.

@Gary Beaton my coach made me train with the cross country in order for me to improve my stamina. I hated it every minute of it 😂😂, but it did help my 800!

She was entered unattached. There are tons of races at these meets. The problem is many states do not allow high school runners to run track with college runners.

To Texas: Howdy! It's a possibility that female high school sports are not exactly the World Series or the World Cup. The announcer's enthusiasm would even be hard to fake. The memory of their names would be evanescent, unnecessary, mind-clogging for diminished avail.

This is the best announcer I’ve ever heard. I really felt like I was at the race in the moment. He truly has a passion for running. The excitement and drama of this call cannot be understated. Reminds me of the famous Olympics US medley where Lezak came from behind to win.

BR Goodie sounds like you have never ran track at a high level. College endurance runners have the highest rates of burnout of any athletes I know.
