Psychologist Carl Rogers said that “the good life” or happiness is not a destination, it is a direction. Tony Robins said that Success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure.
If you put both of these concepts together, you’re getting at an idea that I think is profound and it has to do with flow state. Let me explain.
For most of my life I found myself looking to the future to be happy. I don’t think I’m alone in that. Thinking that when I finally graduated high school, got married, or got that new job, or graduated college, or bought that house, or got a motorcycle, or had kids that I would be happy. That somehow my life was only happy when I hit certain achievements, possessed certain things, or rid myself of other things. I was never content.
And the problem is that I never stopped to think about this. Zero critical thought.
