I read that in tracheomalacia, there can be "biphasic morphology" of flow loop. Could you please explain what it means?

More than tracheomalacia, Biphasic morphology is seen in unilateral main stem bronchial obstruction. This is due to the asynchronous filling and emptying of the air in the lungs. The lung with the main stem bronchial obstruction fills and empties slowly than the normal lung. So the initial inspiratory and expiratory phase represents the normal lung, so it is of normal shape. But the latter part the inspiratory and expiratory curve is like a straight line due to the flow resistance in the obstructed main stem bronchus. So the biphasic morphology is present in both inspiratory and expiratory phase. Coming to Biphasic morphology in Tracheobronchomalacia, it is present only in the expiratory phase.
