Flower Pot Heater. We had an ice storm and our power went out last night. The next 3 days are supposed to be in the teens and then the single digits. We bundled up in bed for the night. Temperature is already down to 54 degrees in the house and falling so I wanted to test the flower pot heater. They are supposed to be a cheap way of heating your home. We have a fireplace, but we don't have any wood, because we were supposed to be getting snow...not ice. So we tried several different variations of the flower pot heaters to see if they really work as a viable heat source when there is no power. Tea lights burn between 3-5 hours, so I had to get up during the night to try and keep them lit. Watch the video to see the results of my findings.
I'm Steve, please like, subscribe, and peace and carrots!

Very interesting idea, just using one pot. A 5 degree difference is definitely worth investigating. Thank you.

Deborah Wilson-Skinner we lost power for about 3 days. (I'm behind on my videos). It's 65 today but more ice tonight and a high of 30 tomorrow. Are you as sick of winter as I am?

I am glad you used your fireplace!! We never had snow showers today!! I have noticed the weather here can change in a instance. I am not tired of it. No snow or ice. At least the sun has been out and it is 46 degrees today. But I am ready for spring though and we are going to start a garden. Yahoo!!

Everything that I've seen on the Flower Pot Heaters is that you need 2-3 Flower Pots, inside each other, not just 1. I would love to Test these out, but currently Traveling over the Road, so don't have access to a way to try this myself, yet.

the pot is only suppose to be 1 inch off the ground and the hole to be covered is only the inside pot.

Have you looked into the quart can alcohol burning heaters? I have not tried it myself, but it looks like a good option in a pinch. Tin can, roll of toilet paper and rubbing alcohol. I did buy (on line) an alcohol burning cook stove, and it works great, but does not work well on regular household alcohol, it requires a higher grade which I get from local auto parts store. But for emergency heat, this option looks to me to be an easier and cheaper, and probably safer method for warming up in a hurry. One thing you have to worry about with using candles and flower pots is the fact that the candle wax will become liquid before it burns off, which can spill or leak which is not good, and the flower pots retain the heat for a long period of time, which can also be dangerous. With the alcohol burning cans, when you put the flame out (by simply setting a plate on the top of the can) it is out... and is not retaining heat. But with any heat source, never leave it unattended.... safety first.

There you have it - reality experienced. They are warmers for feet/hands while positioned immediately next to the pots, only ... that's it. The pots capture/concentrate/store the candle heat and more slowly emit that heat. Since that stored heat has not been yet released to warm the ambient air of the room, the pots are actually slowing warming of the room, generally ... compared to burning the candles alone. Steve, looks like you had the thermometer directly above the rising heat emanating from the pots. If you moved the thermometer just a few feet away, the 5 degree warming would have vanished. In terms of heating a room, the pots add nothing. Burning the candles alone offer the same room heating capability ... very, very little.

your pot has to be filled with metal in order to have less candles burning. I only used 2 candles and had to pots 1 inside the other and had a metal rod with nuts and washers up and down the inside of them. It got too hot to touch and gave off a nice radiant heat that could be close to you. Must use metal instead of more candles for safety. 3 hrs and I blew it out with still some wax left.

You did it wrong if you put a bolt with nuts it would work because metal is a conductor
