I think that after Andy & Barney, Floyd was the most beloved character on TAGS !! One of a kind,,

Recently I watched an episode of The Flintstones where Fred hypnotizes Barney. Now Barney thinks he is a dog so Fred takes Barney to the doctor. The doctor was absolutely hilarious and the doctor was voiced by Howard McNear.

Floyd was a great actor! Loved when the manicurist came to "friendly Mayberry" Funny, funny! 💕 Enjoy your wk-end Bob!

Floyd really took the spotlight in two episodes, Convicts at Large and Floyd the Gay Deceiver.

We used to listen to Gunsmoke on XM radio running between Chicago and California.

This is one of the best videos I've seen.Howard was such a great actor and I'm so glad that Andy worked it out where he could come back. I thought he was more hilarious after the stroke. He reminded me of my great-grandmother family. The character Floyd was a huge part of the Andy Griffith show’s appeal. Howard McNear was in some ways, a genius actor.

In "Convicts at Large," his last episode before suffering a stroke, Floyd was hit over the head with a vase by one of the escaped convicts. Maybe the cause of his stroke? He was hit pretty hard!

Thank you sir..I thought for a long time, that Howard had been replaced.. But saw that he had gotten sick.. And later a stroke.. Thanking JESUS for Him being healthy enough to work And Andy being compassionate to have him back.

I recall two episodes of the "Peter Gunn" TV series that Howard guest-starred in. In both episodes he sorta played variations of 'Floyd the Barber.' One episode in particular: "Slight Touch of Homicide," had McNear's character being a vigilante. I won't go any further on the episode. It's got to be viewed to be believed. Howard was a hoot as the Plumber on George and Gracie Burns TV show.

He was great as Floyd. I remember him playing a doctor in the Jimmy Stewart movie Anatomy of a Murder. Didn't one episode say that Floyd had made enough money to retire? It's great that Andy brought him back. The Loaded Goat began in Floyd's barbershop. But he was out to lunch. His cameo in Divorce, Mountain Style often gets cut out.

About 5 years ago I was down in Winston-Salem helping some Boy Scouts with a woodworking project (book shelves for a library) and I happened to be wearing a Floyd's Barber Shop cap I'd picked up some decades ago. Several of the Scouts with all seriousness asked me if that was where I got my hair cut. Surprised, I asked if they'd ever heard of Floyd's, and none of them had. I went on to laughingly berate their nearby fathers that they'd raised their boys wrong, especially being only an hour or so away from Mt. Airy.
