Fantastic video. Very useful. At 13 min 17 secs you gave a recap on how to perform a spillage test. You said; Close all windows and doors, any fans turn them off, any vents that can be closed, close them, any passive stack systems you leave them open. Why leave passive stack systems open? Thanks 👍🏻 Asian Jon. Training.

Excellent video, but if it fails spillage when an extractor fan is running and everything else is fine, how much ventilation do you add? 25cm2? 50cm2? 100cm2? Or disconnect the appliance?

Interestingly, the appliance passed the sweep test, but failed the spillage test. My thought was if the spillage test failed, sweep test would be subsequently failed as the result. Any plausible explanation on why that happened in the video where spillage test failed, but not the sweep test. Many thanks
@tomkatgastraining
@tomkatgastraining 4 жыл бұрын
Because the appliance was not making co the sweep test passed but because the spillage test failed then it’s ID . If the fire was in a living room not a big training room then the fire would have put out more co because there would have been a lot less oxygen in the room. Hope that helps and thanks for watching cheers
@ilexwang715
@ilexwang715 4 жыл бұрын
@@tomkatgastraining thanks for reply appliance combustion was nearly perfect and no CO produced due to adequate air in the room?. This led to pass of the sweep test right? where the spillage test failed, there was not adequate pull from the flue system. Combustion products will like flow back into the room where appliances operate.

@@tomkatgastraining Hi Derek pleases also enlighten on concepts of air combustion requirement and flammability range. It has been a bit confusing as they both involve fuel gas and air and relate to the ratio of fuel gas in air. E.g for natural gas, its air requirement for combustion is 1: 10 ( or 10% fuel gas in the air), and its flammability range is 5-15%. As I am aware of danger of natural gas falling with the flammability range, its air requirement for combustion confusingly is at 10%, which fall in the flammability range of 5-15%. please help on this
@tomkatgastraining
@tomkatgastraining 4 жыл бұрын
ilex Wang you need 10 m3 of air for complete combustion because only around 20% of air is oxygen so for every 1m3 of natural gas you need you need 2 m3 of oxygen or 10 m3 of air for the 5 to 15 % gas in air so if you have between 5 to 15 % of a room has gas in it it will explode if you have ignition. Hope that helps
