The Carolina Rig can be an outstanding tool for Summer fishing. In this video I show you how to fish it and all the little details about the rig everyone loves to hate. The hot weather pushes some bass deep and casting a Carolina Rig to those deep spots can be the ticket.

Good show! One little C-rig tip that I learned a long time ago was to stop the cast with your thumb on the spool before the rig hits the water. This stops the sinker but the bait continues to fly until it reaches the end of the leader. The gets everything laid out correctly with the bait dragging behind the sinker from the moment it hits the water.

Gene, Thank you for the info. You addressed what brought me here. I have not used the Carolina Rig for over 20 years of fishing. I just got away from it found setting it up a hassle compared to the Texas rig. Today I went back to it for 2 reasons. The Jig Rig was not catching fish, all summer long that has been the hot ticket, not today. I have been using Z-Mans Big TRD most of the summer. I figured the Jig Rig was not allowing the bait to float off the bottom like I wanted. Thus the Carolina Rig. As soon as I switched I started to catch fish. The bites were all aggressive and were gut hooked. I could not figure out why, I could feel the bite and did not let them take it for long. Thank you for addressing this issue and the tips about the keepers. I use swivels and there is a sequence to tie the rig if your number one knot is the Palomar and this can be a hassle if you mess up the sequence of events.

I started watching you about a year ago but I never got a chance to get out much for Bass. I did my fair share of salmon and steelhead tho. But the last 2 weeks I loaded up on all my bass gear. All new rods for all applications and I'm ready. Watched this video again to remind me what to do. I just went with spinning reels for most rods except my top water rods. Keep killing it man! Love the videos

You do the excellent job of explaining this sir. I've seen a lot of Carolina rig videos but nobody really explains it like you do. The only criticism I can give you is a little bit closer up on the bait and the rigging would be nice. But technique you have nailed it. I know how to cast now

That lasso cast is my style of casting. Didn't know there was a name for it. Had many people I've taken fishing comment about it. I leave about 24-36" of line out and I lasso it just like you did. I use it when I'm trying to rocket a lighter 3/8 weighted plastic out farther.

Hey Gene, I want to start off by thanking you for ALL the teaching videos you have done, over the past year I have learned so much from them!!! I used to fish with live worms only but have changed to lures and have been putting into practice everything you have taught from rod to reel, type of line to rig, trying all rigs and having fun doing so!!! Can you do a video about getting the max distance on a cast with a spinning reel, it is the one thing I have been struggling with and always fall short? Again thank you for putting in all the effort to teaching how to fish!!!

Flurocarbon has the same stretch as mono. Line is line and they all catch fish. I like the EWG hooks because when a fish bites down on the bait the curved part gets pressed down, exposing the sharp part of the hook for a easier hook set. Also if u like swim baits I highly recommend the "naked swimmers" from Bitters bait and tackle. The gold flake, the watermelon red flake, and blue and green flake work best.
@cross_fire_
@cross_fire_ Ай бұрын
I know they both stretch but that mono feels like a slinky when I bomb cast it and it gets hung, when I get hung on fluoro it doesn’t stretch and is much harder to break. Question…what line are you using? And I’m not trying to be rude, I’m curious because I’d love to find some mono that doesn’t stretch like the stuff I use.
