This whole album of flume songs hits me a certain way, a best friend of mine passed away 3 years ago in a car accident. Every day senior year id be over at his house in the morning blaring this exact song and album. Not knowing 3 years later I'd still come back to this song to relive the memories we had and find some sort of comfort. Music holds power like none other, it can comfort you and reignite an old flame. It constantly reminds me, that life is just not a game.

It's hard to believe that this is a 2012 song.

I've been listening to this song without actually understanding the lyrics. It basically means that taking always the safe choices can be boring and make you go insane. It encourages taking risks so you're not inside that "gilded cage" and can actually experience life and go through new and exciting things rather than the safe choices you make because you're afraid. The meaning is beautiful even though it can be interpreted as something else and it can even be interpreted as encouraging things considered bad. Simple and short lyrics, tons of truth and meaning.

All that while he was struggling with addiction. The laughs hid pain. Real pain. One never knows the whole truth. About anyone in this life I suppose. Best to give the benefit of doubt and move on. RIP Mr Perry. I feel a sadness bigger than I thought I would. It’s at the kinds of losses you don’t think about or imagine at all.
