Practically synonymous with art itself, Pablo Picasso needs no formal introduction. But for the first time on 23 October, we see Picasso in perhaps the most comprehensive and personal collection ever assembled. Coinciding with Pablo Picasso’s 140th birthday this October, MGM Resorts and Sotheby’s will present a singular, first-of-its-kind marquee Evening Sale of masterworks by the legendary artist from the MGM Resorts Fine Art Collection. Conducted live from the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, this historic auction will comprise eleven works, all until recently on display in the Bellagio’s renowned Picasso restaurant. Marking the first ever marquee auction in North America outside Sotheby’s signature New York auction venue, this event is highlighted by Picasso’s Femme au béret rouge-orange, a stunning portrait of one of the artist’s most influential lovers and muses. Sotheby’s is proud to present Picasso: Masterworks from the MGM Resorts Fine Art Collection, a landmark auction celebrating the life and work of one of the world’s most iconic artists. Accompanying the auction is a four-day exhibition of luxury property specially curated by Sotheby’s, which will be on view at MGM’s ARIA resort October 21-24.

Deloitte has a private art collection in Los Angeles. It includes various Picasso's. I hope it wasn't looted during the pandemic.

Picasso´s "art" is certainly not synonymous with art itself (it depends what you consider as "art"). His "art" is rather synonymous with the paintings of a small child. I visited once the Picasso museum and I was extremely shocked, it seems to be the inversion of real art.

Isabell, Picasso has a lot of amazing artwork but like all great artists they also have bad artwork too. Theyre only human. Sotherby is trying to make sales so it's their job to hype up the art even if the art is not the best work from the artist. Picasso has a lot of great paintings and prints but most of the good ones are already taken.

I like a couple of things but I would not pay more than a few grand for any of this stuff. If we all fell asleep, forgot all we knew and woke up in a room of Picasso's some would laugh at the absurdity, some would go mad, and the rest of us would walk out of the room and wonder where are food was.

Picasso had some talent and did break some new ground in art history, but his contributions are usually overstated. He was also a physically abusive misogynist whose relationships with teenage girls (including Marie-Thérèse Walter) would be considered unacceptable nowadays. Many of his later works are of minimal artistic merit and of no artistic significance, including "Homme et enfant" (3:10) and "Buste d'Homme" (3:40). Despite his many sculptures, it should be noted that Picasso didn't have the skill to actually make the vase for "Aiguière - Visage" (Jules Agard made it); Picasso just inscribed the silly face and poked the row of dots.

Didn't know that. I have never considered Picasso a great artist, is like a one hit wonder in music, just a couple of decent paintings, but none of them are exceptional in my opinion.

You guys don't know jack shit! Take any Picasso and try to recreate it! You will quickly discover how technical he was. But fortunately he's a talented master and you guys are nobodies!

Picasso crapped out after Cubism. These paintings look like a child's drawings.

I can assure you that a child wouldn't be able to paint as masterfully as Picasso. The fact that they look "childish" is only a testament of his imagination. His paintings lack realistic detail, but they excel in composition, color, and most importantly creativity.

@@SuliangHeadliness maybe I should have said Picasso started painting “childishly” which he did, turning away from his early work which was very fine. Some of his older works are good, true, but so many look like doodles, which a child could attempt to draw themselves

Picasso was a Violent abusive misogynist. Can't stand seeing him still being put on a pedestal. R Kelly is very talented too. Doesn't make it OK to ignore his abuse of women and revere his music.

So now we have to celebrate only artists who have been saints in their life ? What do you suggest, should we cancel him ?

I don't care about his abusive misogynistic behavior. I just don't like his paintings, they are as ugly as shit.
