Transitions Smooth out the Cast, keep every under tension, and dramatically increase casting efficiency by storing power immediately into the butt section of the Rod Blank!

Thanks Gunnar, I throw 10' 5 & 7 wt and this year was the first year in 35 years of fly fishing. I had to stop fishing because of arthritis in my right hand. I can cast with my left very well but I won't have to now. Hopefully this works on these to rods of mine.

You crack me up man, great video I actually think you taught me a lot in this video. I bought a fly rod like 5 months ago and I’ve only used it twice because of the fact I had no idea what I was doing

Cool! I can't wait to try this. I just got an 8 wt. to throw bigger flies to pike and I've never really cast large flies before. And, thanks for getting me back into tying flies. I've learned so much from your videos.

Awesome call out and casting approach. Just getting into casting larger rods, flies, etc. will have this in mind next time I head out to practice.

I’m so angry so disappointed with my self. I’ve been practicing every single day for 7 months now and I can barely cast 80 feet. 🤬after each section I got my shoulder really sore… I got try this! Thank you for sharing these tips

Great way to use this platform to share your thoughts Love the live saver Only thing it’s the lack of maths and real factors in the clip. Can’t wait to watch the next one 👍

When practicing your cast in the back yard,should I be doing it with a fly on?
@HalfInsaneOutdoorGuy

well damn....my casting is all fucked up! Casting dries my back cast tailing line loops towards me and sometimes I hear my fly whip past my face going back, on the forward cast i occasionally hit my casting arm. I have no idea how to double haul...looks so wonky to me.

That looks amazing, but aren't you incorporating the double hull too?
@Gunnar_Brammer
@Gunnar_Brammer Жыл бұрын
The Double Haul comment was made when demoing with the Lightsaber - meant to be a joke as there was no line, so it wasn’t adding anything to making the lightsaber extend. Yes, during the casting, I’m using a fairly aggressive double haul and it’s certainly adding quite a bit of extra line speed to the system!

@@Gunnar_Brammer That's right I forgot about that. I guess better in the winter than during fishing season.

Love seeing this. I discovered this principle through trial and error in my casting. The other thing that helps this I found is less effort means longer casts!

How much line is out of the rod tip? Is it the full taper? And since you're using a relatively specialized line, will this technique work with a saltwater taper line?
@Gunnar_Brammer
@Gunnar_Brammer Жыл бұрын
The casts are the full 100ft fly line. I'm carrying roughly 40ft of line before releasing. The Line is 35ft head, Spey Taper line, very similar to a Redfish line. The Head is certainly shorter than most other Salt lines, but the Technique applies all the same. It will just take more skill to carry a longer head before shooting the line.
