Proud to say I fish on rivers like the Carron in north of Scotland with almost 100% return of Atlantic Salmon. If we don't return we could be the last generation to fish for these awesome creatures. As others have said it was also a coloured fish so why kill for some bragging rights in the local bar. Shame.

People are overreacting to this, I am disgusted with some of these reactions. This sport is perfectly legal, laws state fisherman "catch limits" which are similar to hunting. Being a licensed fisherman costs plenty of money and food/fun are the rewards. He obviously enjoys himself and is potentially feeding his family. Feel free to research the lifespan, growth rates, population, species legal limits and seasonal fishing of ALL salmon fishing worldwide. There is plenty to go around; relax people.

There should be BOTH retained and catch-and-release fishing. If there is a legal limit it will protect the species. Fisherman's choice; if you don't want it or eat it, put it back. Great job with a wonderful fish. Good for you, guys!

Disagree entirely....our hand has now been forced due to the threat of these creatures that everything should go back,I was in the same camp as you a few years back but wake up and smell the coffee why don't you
@melmclennan3517 жыл бұрын
Your extremely lucky to have caught a salmon of that size, a fish of a lifetime id say. What I don't agree with is that knowing you already had salmon on the bank for your table...why kill more eh? The large salmon isn't even fresh run...it looks like my tartan kilt ffs! Your mate was filming it so the proof and memories are there for all to see...so why kill it? More ego than Angling👎

How sad not putting such a magnificent fish back in the river to fight another day.

My thoughts exactly, I couldn't believe that he killed it before I even saw the others in the boat, but this is clearly a good few years ago and attitudes were totally different. When I was a boy in Scotland, most fish were killed and a good day was a cause for celebration. I'm so glad that we've moved on to where we are now.

This guy kills ALL he catches by the look of it - there was even a dead 2lb seatrout in the boat! Great trophy fish it may be but it is quite red and therefore not for the table...if it is for his ego, he has got it on film. There is no justification for killing a 50lb salmon these days

Dude these aren't pacific salmon!!!! They can and do live after spawning! This particular fish should be allowed to live to pass on it's genes! The truly wild Atlantic salmon is in serious trouble. Most fish have some kind of stocking fish in there genes.. even the pacific salmon and steelhead have this issue. Stocking is maintaining there numbers and those fish are breeding with wild fish.. you can even keep a wild born steelhead in b.c cause it's so bad..I don't mind him keeping any fish within regulation but this single one hard to swallow
@salmonninja72237 жыл бұрын
What a cracking fish.Enormous. I'd love to fish over there....one day.

This video demonstrates the young guy is an expert in every way...... hooking playing with no surplus line hanging about and the speed of the landing. As opposed to an older fly fisher video on here who had umpteen metres of line around his legs put the salmon back to fight another day......... may have been the very next day when someone with the killier instinct knocked that same salmon on the head........ Oh dear dear dear dear I hear the do gooders say......... It is entirely the individuals prerogative what to do but it is rude to object to what that young chap achieved. If a fisher feels the fish he catches should go back then so be it but don't try to convert all fishers to their way of thinking........ Go and play snobs or something more constructive--------- It should never be allowed that those who criticize do not possess a fraction of the expertise experience or knowledge of those who they criticize..

If wild salmon populations are good enoff for the harvest of big jacks like that then its not all bad. its untouched Norway we are talking about not over harvested Canada newfoundland and other places where its a rare to land a salmon over even ten pounds. i wouldn't agree there but Norway has done a great job at not over harvesting and deserve to enjoy the benifits of taking home a nice big salmon. great cant! if u cant one that size in canada tho plz let it go lol

In norway salmon fishing and keeping fish is looked upon very differently to over here. They also have better runs than over here. along with bigger fish than we have here, especially the Alta. My only critisism is that the fish was quite a bit coloured and had been in the water for some time, should have gone back

hi alan this fish is good for the table, makes good smoked salmon. hi stian - great video - wonderful catch! but its time to react on reality - if these fish built a nest and dispose many 1000s of eggs they are worth much more than röked laks in amounts you cannot eat! so please , stian, let those storlaks go in future, the proudness about the catch will be doubled by prooving to be a serious fly fisherman with respect and love for the creature!!!

@Bluebeltonproduction Actaully its not, i've only spent the last 4years fishing there and the only place you even have decent chance of landing a non grills salmon is at fly in lodges and privatized river sections with lodges. i've spent much time with the locals and talked many stories of how the salmon sizes are in such decline that there should be a zero harvest rate at all. when my father fished as a boy every salmon was 20+ pds and yes it is very RARE to land a salmon of 10+pds champ
@grousemaster15 жыл бұрын
I would say you haven't caught many large salmon - that fish is well over 40 lbs - and could possibly be the advertised 50 lbs. As far as release, yeah, be nice to see it released, but it's legal there - and at least it wasn't a hen.

@flyman45111 жыл бұрын
Well at first I thought it was okay for this guy to kill this big fish but after looking at many of his other Atlantic salmon videos I have changed my opinion. He keeps virtually every salmon he catches and while I can understand keeping a fish or two every season to eat I don't see why anyone would want to kill so many noble fish.
@leps6911 жыл бұрын
OMFG u can eat this whole month :D Nice catch ! Really nice :)
@WheresMarkKnopfler11 жыл бұрын
You know 1 or two fish is nice but did you really need to be pulling three fish out of the river? Even the Duke of Roxburghe takes minimal fish when fishing the Alta too. Wild salmon should be kept for sport fishing not really for eating . The difference in taste between a wild / farm raised then released salmon and wild salmon is negligible. I know, I've had both wild and farmed salmon smoked.. This guy is out fishing the river!
@wildflyfisher33734 жыл бұрын

what the hell would make you wish to kill that fish? you already had two fish in the boat.. a fish like that should be put back and left to breed more fish of that size.. take a look at scotland's salmon fishing nowadays in comparison to it's glory days. we're just becoming to make a come back however.. why is this? because around 75% of our fish go back.. and the big ones most certainly go back. norway's day will come when no fish are left due to this sort of attitude.
