I think my brother and I started planning our next trip to Slough on the trek back to our car that day! It truly is an amazing fishery, hoping we can spend a few more nights out there next summer.

I hiked to the 2nd meadow on July 4th last year. Water was cloudy but clearing up. I only caught 3 or 4 CT's but one was about 17 inches. A father/son campers came to the site late afternoon on the 4th, seemed concerned that I was staying there but I was only on a day trip. Would love to do it again, but that 5 mile hike with bear spray at the ready the entire time was a little tough. Great video!

Nice video. It's a hike to the second meadow and the fishing is even more amazing during hopper season (Late July thru August). Rarely see anyone but hikers heading to the cabin at the boundary.

Fished there a few years back and is the best trip I’ve ever taken!

So I'm planning on heading up there this year in July (friend and I tried in 2022 but the flood happened) and was wondering from what you saw if you think its safe to solo hike to 1st meadow (I won't be camping)? I have heard so many reports of it being the most bear dense area of the park so if I do it I was thinking start a little after the first people head up there.

I'd agree with that report, saw lots of signs of bear activity around our campsite and had a couple encounters. If I was going in solo I would just make sure to not hike in too early and not leave too late, which means you're probably only getting to the first meadow. The 2 bear encounters we had were on our way out that 2nd day. Both in the evening and on the last mile or two of the trail going back to the parking lot.

Great video!! Were you fishing dries only or dry a dropper set up?
@Donde_estoy6 ай бұрын
All dry fly and the green drake emerger was money. They were rising all day until a storm came through.

2nd meadow? How many people did you see fishing there?
@EastCoastFlies7 ай бұрын
We actually made it all the way to the 3rd meadow. Camped out at 2S2 or 2S3, fished a little bit of the 2nd meadow our first evening there and then the next day we made it to the 3rd meadow. Saw a few people leaving the 2nd meadow on our way in but didn’t see another soul the entire time. Unbelievable place

@@EastCoastFlies that’s awesome! Were you there in mid July?
@EastCoastFlies7 ай бұрын
@@williamwojcieszek4320 1st week of July. Did Slough Creek July 5/6. I think we hit it at a perfect time, met a park ranger on the way in who told us the water just started to clear up and become fishable that day for the first time all summer
@williamwojcieszek43207 ай бұрын
@@EastCoastFlies yeah I think the key is to go early. I fished the 1st meadow that early about 20 years ago - mosquitoes were crazy bad though
@georgebass28807 ай бұрын
When I was there on July 4th last year, there were no other fisherman in the area of the 2nd meadow. A couple of people came in late to the camp ground but they didn't fish until after I left.

I know that spot!
@EastCoastFlies7 ай бұрын
The spot certainly is no secret, just gotta be willing to make the hike out that far... and avoid all the bears... so many bears

Thanks East Coast for letting everyone know about this special river, hope you never come back
@EastCoastFlies4 ай бұрын
Really, that’s your comment? Be better, this stream isn’t a secret. It’s a 10+ mile trek in bear country, if you’re willing to go through that to fish then you deserve the experience
