After dropping Megan, my daughter and travel companion for the past few weeks, at the Salt Lake City Airport. Our plans to fish and film in Yellowstone Nation Park came to an abrupt end with our being evacuated, but had led to our discovering the warmth and beauty of Idaho's Warm River. I stayed on and joined up with fellow bamboo rod makers and admirers at Harriman Ranch for a few days fishing at the Railroad Ranch. Having had so much fun with my daughter Megan fishing and catching trout and whitefish on the Warm River, I had to scope out the fishing potential at the headwaters of the Warm River as the river is fed by a huge mountain spring with consistent flows and cold water. The biggest surprise was traveling thru Forest Service Open Range, encountering Black Angus cows and their calves. Megan would have loved seeing this and now she can join us on this journey!

The trout were clearly well fed, and natural protection from predators

Beautiful stuff. I got to paddle board the upper Henry’s fork last year and that water was crystal clear. Huge rainbows. Thank you for sharing.

What was your rod and reel set up for the day?

It's an Orvis Bamboo "Battenkill" Rod made in the 1950's. The reel was hand made by David Robichaud in Hudson, New Hampshire. He made the reels up until the mid 1990's when, as I understand it, his business closed for failure to pay taxes. Robichaud fly reels are well-regarded classic fly reels. You can search on Google under D.L. Robichaud fly reels if interested in learning more, and they occasionally show up in auctions and on ebay. This is how I acquired mine.
