Those were some explosive takes! I never have had the best hook up ratio bouncing or skittering dries, but it is neat to see the trout be so acrobatic.

Similar to an old technique called dappling..works really well in small streams where you can reach everywhere and hold fly bouncing on surface

Nice video. Good river for explain the dry nymph. And you use the better technic with the long potence. The dry fly is most realist. Nice fish.

Mark Wisdom Excellent adaptation of a technique that is quite common among wet fly fisherman fishing in the traditional style. Dibbling the top dropper to mimic an emerging insect or an oviparous female returning to the water's surface to lay eggs...just like Lance demonstrated with his Corn Fed caddis.

Nice technique. I wish I would have seen this last week when I was on the Boulder river in Montana during a caddis hatch the other night. They were not eating any of my normal drifts so this one might have down the trick. Thanks.

Best tip of this video was the rubber band trick. Thanks Lance

This is a really old technique…we call it skittering the dropper! One of my favourite flys for this is a # 12 picket pin and a Muddler as the anchor fly! Cheers!

Nice Video Lance and love the technique. Hey what CFDesigns box is on your chestpack and how did you attach it? I have the overlook 500 and the fly pad that comes with it is not great. Thx in advance Dennis

Could you share your leader setup? Is it a euro-micro leader to a tippet ring, then 5x to point and dropper?

Well speaking for myself here, I would be interested in a video or description of the casting technique for that 22-24' leader of 15' of 4x "butt" to 5' of 5x and then a 2' to 4' tippet of 6x; that's a challenging flimsy leader to cast! Obviously I would need to spend some time practising with this to become competent -- but any hot tips would be appreciated. Interesting technique indeed.

The point fly is weighted with a tungsten bead: the long rod, plus light leader, plus weighted point fly, is actually pretty easy to cast. In this rig, you are casting the beaded fly which is "pulling" the leader/line, rather than a traditional fly line rig in which the line/leader "pushes" the fly.

@@phoult37 Thanks for the explanation. The way you explained it, it reminds me of spin casting with the weighted lure.

@@thomasw_ Yes it is very similair! I will even fish a 1/64 or 1/32 oz jig in deeper water. So yeah, it's essentially tackle fishing with a 10 foot rod the weight of an ultra light

Please correct me if I'm wrong,,,,, the dry fly is literally off the water.

Only in spurts. The beauty of this technique is that the fly can bounce and skitter on and over the surface, much like the natural caddis do.
