I can't believe I came across this video. That is my truck parked next to you at the beginning. I remember briefly talking to you when I was getting off the water. Your fish was definitely bigger than the one I caught. Great video!

No way! Ah great conversation! If I recall correctly, you had some luck with a mosquito pattern, or something small with a bit of glint to reflect the light. Thank you and happy fishing!

Nice vid! On these mountain trout streams, a dry-dropper is often pretty foolproof. Try out a Mister Rapidan parachute with a copper John or similar underneath next time. Even in dead winter, if you have a warm day you’ll have them taking the dry. Also, the fish in these streams are very spooky, so a stealthy approach and ~45deg or greater upstream cast will greatly increase your success.

Great video. Don’t forget to fish the tail outs before you work up into the pools. In pocket water like some of this dries or dries and a dropper can work great too. Thanks for posting this beautiful water.

Hot tip. You can throw dries with or without a dropper on most of these SNP streams from spring to fall. You can blind cast, no need to see rises. Sometimes nymphing can lead to bigger fish (like that second one), but they usually are more active on dries.

Fished the same place in early Nov 2021 and it’s beautiful water. There are other ways to access the river if you don’t have a 4WD vehicle with decent clearance. There are plenty of decent streams/rivers within a 15 mile radius. Great video.

I had that same Green Top net. They have another net without those large holes in the bottom that is still that rubber/ silicone material. I'd swap it out. Nothing worse than a fish slipping through and he's still hooked

Great video, I just moved to Spotslyvania this year from down south, and I had a really amazing trout fishery close by. But it was mostly stocked Rainbows and the occasional native brown. this area is only about 1hr from my house so this would be a great adventure. Curious if you need 4wd to access the road?

Sounds great! Yes, a 4WD is definitely recommended. Farther you go down the trail, the worse the road gets. You can park near the trailhead and walk the rest, which isn't far. I would hate to see you (or anyone) get stranded back there.

Planning a trip in the fall. What time of year were you fishing?

This was in September, but anytime in the fall before it gets too cold should work well.
