'Fly The Roof' is the story of four young Kiwis stepping outside of their comfort zones in a foreign continent to help those in need. The team of Harry, Ryan, Chris and Guido began a project that would see them to learn to paraglide, climb to the Roof of Africa (Mt. Kilimanjaro) and attempt to fly from the summit of the world’s tallest freestanding mountain in September 2019. Their core purpose was to fundraise $40,000 NZD ($25,000 USD) through Wings of Kilimanjaro for the Emboreet primary school in Simanjiro, Tanzania. Fly the Roof is a story of true adventure, brotherhood and an immense determination to create change.

As a 25+ year paraglider pilot, I can emphatically state that hike-n-fly is NOT every PG pilot's dream. That's why we have vehicles, roads, and ski-lifts.

Hello! I'm a fellow Kiwi who stumbled across this while searching for paragliding videos for my 3-year-old son and I am literally blown away! I couldn't stop watching it. The film making is so cinematic and beautiful, the story-telling is sensitive and beautiful (and had me choking up), and the whole adventure is just so meaningful and special. You guys are awesome and will no doubt go super far in documentary making. I will not be surprised if this has 1 million views soon. I'm so impressed and inspired by everything about this. Congratulations on your impact, amazing mahi team.

Wow. What a rollercoaster of an adventure. So many ups and downs - must be hard to process. And special admiration to whoever has done the camerawork in addition to the climb and what a compelling and wonderfully structured production. Thanks for the inspiration, I'd love to be a part of something like this.

Well done, lads! Looks like an awesome adventure. Did you continue paragliding? NZ looks awesome for that. Any idea what caused Justin's accident?

Thank you! Chris continues to be a very active paraglider in New Zealand. Guido is also still paragliding, and I don’t believe Harry has continued actively pursuing it, but I think he’d like to again in the future. We don’t have a solid idea on what caused the accident.

Great adventure! Sorry to Justin’s wife and family. It seems that several of them, include Harry, has not well prepared for the flying skill. But I highly respect them.

The combination;:the need for a much higher take off speed for the altitude; the physical and mental effects of the altitude; the tension of the event. All very hard (or impossible) to be properly prepare for. A beautiful dream, so sad to see the reality, but a testament to human spirit.

Turbulence. In the low pressure, it appears Justin over corrected and the wing tirned and flew into the ground. I didnt see it. I launched his wing and he flew away perfectly. I turned to set up my own. Tough day

@@itsryanwilkes exactly. But let's be clear it had absolutely nothing to do with the fact the man was attempting to paraglide off the tallest mountain in Africa.

I held his wing up as he inflated it. He launched perfectly and i turned to set up my own wing. I didn't see what happened. Me and Justin were off to one side and there was a bit of a cross wind (that twisted my wing and aborted my 1st attempt). There was some turbulence in front of launch that others flew past, but where we were, it seems the turbulance was more intense. Apparently Justin over corrected one way, then over corrected the other and apprars to have lost control. The air pressure is very low, and at nearly 6km above sea level, humans struggle with lack of oxygen. I likened ot to having 3 beers and feeling "I'm all good to drive". I sensed my reaction were slow and really struggled. Justin was one of the coolest people I've met. He and his wife noticed i was struggling with a foot injury and organised some pain relief for me. I made a great friend and lost them in 7 days. Walking back to base camp, the porters came past with yhe body in a bag, carrying him down. I'm not ashamed to say, i lost it. Tough day. And immense sadness for his family
