Fly Trap Submission Choke Out | Jeremiah Vance

Jeremiah Vance (10th Planet Santa Barbara) is one of Eddie Bravo's best black belt competitors. As Joe Rogan mentioned, he is one of the best Rubber Guard players out there submitting opponents with his unorthodox style. Jeremiah won submission of the year for F2WINPRO, took Gold at IBJJF Paris Open (Brown Belt), and again at Gracie Worlds.
With his insane flexibility and leg dexterity, Jeremiah catches many opponents with his Gogo Clinch, Dead Orchard and Fly Trap (from bottom side control).
The second half of the video includes the Fly trap Submission breakdown. The Fly Trap is essentially a triangle from bottom side control using mission control to set up. This is a hit or miss submission and can sometimes cause more of a neck crank rather than a choke.

I noticed that at 1:49 it's flytrap. But at 1:50, the legs were switched. What was the choke that put the guy out?

I never considered that if you have side control on someone from the top they also have side control on you, but from the bottom.

I’ve been doing attacks from bottom side control since white belt (purple now). And one thing I can’t stress enough is how important flexibility is if you care about your knees. As well as being aware when you’re being threatened with a Von Flue.

Great Breakdown. Another piece in the puzzle is that his left arm grabs his right shoulder to fully lock out the opponent's right arm, above the elbow. Also while he is on his side his body weight is now totally on the opponent's left arm, thus neutralising it was well. Both arms disabled and full figure 4 locked in. Perfect ❗

Hit this sub twice other day and got instant taps, the problem is both guys told me that it was cranking their necks not choking any idea of what I could be doing wrong .

Hey man! If you figured out how to land the choke, please let me know as well! :D I land this from bottom side-control all the freaking time in sparring, but I've experienced the same (via feedback and it being done to me) that 9 out of 10 times it just feels like a nasty neck crank. I'm sure there's a small detail we're missing here and I want to know it lol.
