The Glide Fly is an all around (Fresh/Salt and Still Water/River) Predator Tube Fly. The fly fishes best on an 8wt and above and can be tailored to both floating and sinking lines, and tied to match forage between 6-8" long. The fly is ideally rigged with a supple leader material to maximize action such as 49 strand Nylon Coated Stainless Steel (Beadolon, Surflon, Rio Bite Wire in 20-30lb), or a limp Mono such as Rio's Power Flex around 20lb. For additional information on this design, such as balance and rigging or if you're simply looking for more information on tube flies in general please refer to this Video: • Fly Tying: Predator Tu...

I really like your very elaborate explanation of what you are doing and why. Yes, the video is lenghty, but very learning and explanatory. Keep up with the format!

Hey Gunnar it was great to meet you at the mid west flyfishing show. You are very skilled at what you do and you put a lot of fore thought in to your flies. Great video.

This fly is simply perfection. I fished it for 3 months straight in the Brazilian Amazon last Season, and our fish could not keep from kill-striking it. They'd eat it on the drop, the strip, and on the turn. The flies lasted all day since they slide up the leader and away from from the tangling teeth of peacock bass, jacunda, and payara. It was a breeze to take the bare hook out. The thought process behind this masterpiece is evidence of brilliance, nothing less.

Thanks Gunnar! Love your enthusiasm and your style! Will think on it for a bit, grab another coffee, then re-watch the video ...pleasantly saturated with information at the moment. LOL! REQUEST: Could you do quick videos on the non-slip loop knot you use and how to do a hand whip-finish? Would be appreciated! Cheers! Hank

Again nice and simple , build it to suit your needs . Looks like you could also do it with a shank and trailer set up if you don't have tube tying capability. Happy Trails

Hi Gunnar, saw your trick with the razor blade. I use a stripping brush designed for trimming a dogs coat. It’s like a metal brush with a built in razor blade. It’s a fantastic tool for layering materials.

Your description of how much sf to use reminded me of Nicklas Bauer and his Swedish word for just the right amount 🤣

Struggling with the dubbing loop and not having all the materials either clump up into little sections or simply spin around the dubbing loop thread. Will watch your tut on dubbing brushes for some tips/clues. Despite my struggles, I am appreciating the technique tutorials!

Love that you tie big predator flies. I fish for GTs here in Hawaii and the something similar on a tube and that HMH vise. I thought I came up with that hair clip idea until I saw your videos. Even Kelly used it in one of his videos and made a reference to you. Any suggestion for an alternative for the Strung Fuzzy Fiber for the predator bump? My local shop here in hawaii does not carry it. Thanks.

Nice Vid Gunnar. Massive fly. Does the head material matter if you dunk and coat it in Softex?

If your going to use werewolf hair go sparingly,it’s a little stiffer and a bit messier to work with, i like the sf blend better
