Great vid. I hope calling out that other fisherman for being so close helps people to not do that. I was fishing out east and a fisherman literally came up on a large piece of water and fished the run to my immediate left. This is why I typically stick to bushwhacking blue lines on a map where no one else is willing to go. Can’t stand it. Anyways, you guys are awesome and I’ll keep on your vids

Very talented - how you hoist the fish out of the water at the last second and catch the flying fish in your net! A pro move if I've ever seen one. Great video - thanks.

Hey lance, we’re you using a 3ips sink tip or intermediate or something else? I know it’s water dependent, but I’m guessing you were fishing 4-6 feet or so of water. Thanks! Love the shop

What was the rod setup for the strip streamer at the start? Sink tip line with 2x tippet I heard, yes, but what was the leader length, rod length and rod weight? Just curious, thanks.
@milesdaniel6928
@milesdaniel6928 3 жыл бұрын
I go 3 feet or less in terms of leader length from the sink tip. If the leader’s too long your streamer will ride higher than the end of your line. I’m no expert though, your local fly shop is always a great resource for this type of info. Good luck out there👍

When fishing the Euro rig, one generally sets downstream. In this video, with the jig streamer, you’re setting upstream. Could you comment on the technique? Thanks.

Do you strip set with both the euro rig and the streamer rig, or just with the streamer rig? I'm still not clear on why strip setting is more effective than setting with the rod.
@megaconda07
@megaconda07 3 жыл бұрын
Streamers use thicker hooks generally so they need more force. And your line is directly connected while the rod will have some lag. Plus generally fly rods are meant to protect leader which also means that bass or trout setting doesn't have alot of force

I set with the rod with the euro streamer to help protect light tippet. Also, euro streamers are fished at short range so there’s much less slack and line stretch when fishing close. When stripping streamers it’s best to use heavy tippet (2x or heavier) and strip set to remove the soft rod from the equation. Pulling straight on the line (strip setting) helps penetrate the hook better at distance. If you set with the rod, the flex of the rod takes away most of the force that can be applied to the fly. Fish often crush a streamer and bite down on it hard. You have to pull back quite hard to get a good hook set.

@@Lanceeganflyfishing great advice on the hook set! I've screwed up a few when trying to set with the rod tip. What weight of rod are you using here? Just wondering if you switch from your 3 weight euro rod to a 5 or 6 weight for streamers?

The most important advice is this video is “if I can easily cast to you, you’re too close” shame on all anglers who do this! Better yet if I can see you, you’re too close.
@Doc.Holiday
@Doc.Holiday 3 жыл бұрын
Disagree, if your dropping in below me in the same run regardless of distance that’s bad form. When it’s crowded don’t stand in the sweet spot. Take a step or two in between casts and work your way down. If you go in, go in above an angler and work down with him. Make friends and be gentlemen/women.
@joshsalazar6943

@@Doc.Holiday Then we agree to disagree all day long. I show respect by NOT stepping in on anyone. Period. Find your own stretch of water and leave others to theirs. This way everyone wins.

@@joshsalazar6943 … don’t be so hasty,… I’m thinking there is common ground. I’m only talking about extreme crowded conditions. Agreed, if someone is in a run I’ll go find another. Or if someone gets up earlier than I do the run is theirs. If I come back at noon and they are still in the sweet spot then I’ll go in above them and expect them to move through the run. Casting distance is absolutely too close. We all need to use common sense.
@joshsalazar6943
@joshsalazar6943 3 жыл бұрын
Not being hasty at all. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions. After all this is the internet. You just so happened to intervene on mine and you halfway agreed with my rebuttal. As stated above, agree to disagree. Crowded river or not, in your case coming back around noon and someone is still in the run, my immediate reaction would be to move on instead of push someone out. They were there first, plain and simple. The beauty of most rivers is there are miles of water in them with plenty of fish for everyone.
@Doc.Holiday
@Doc.Holiday 3 жыл бұрын
@@joshsalazar6943 … okay Josh. You’re welcome to fish with me. Just don’t “Low Hole” me. It’s a common term for less than gentlemanly conduct. Going in above on a crowded river without other options is a common and respectable practice. At least it has been in my 50 years of fly fishing. Goodaysir…
