Thanks for taking the time to watch! I hope the video was able to answer most of your questions about flying a drone in China. I try to keep the video description up-to-date with any new developments, but if you know of something specific that I'm missing, please respond to this comment to let me (and everybody else) know! Hi, great video! I tried registering my Spark from the link in your description, but I'm stuck at the "phone number" box. I keyed in my local phone number from my home country (I keyed in few times - with my country code and without my country code) but it keep on telling me that it's "invalid number" or "incorrect number". Do I need to get a Chinese number before I can register?

Sobat Makan yes needs to be a chinese number which is ridiculous if you are traveling to the country as a tourist

I'd like to add in that the DJI safety map that lists the NFZs is not quite accurate (or updated). On the website it shows that I'm well outside the one NFZ in my area, but when I open the app on my phone and get prepped for takeoff, I have way more NFZs that cover almost all of where I live (Shenzhen, Nanshan district). So, don't make your future flying plans solely based on the website's NFZ map because you might be disappointed when you get there and can't fly.
@FarWestChina
@FarWestChina 7 жыл бұрын
Hmm...interesting observation. I have noticed that you have to specify on the website which drone you're using, perhaps that makes a difference? I'm surprised that the two maps aren't linked.
@jordanmakesmaps
@jordanmakesmaps 7 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right, I didn't see that option at first. SMH. I am having difficulties flying my drones in Shenzhen due to security guards in the areas that I attempt to takeoff. As a major city, I totally understand why there is concern flying a drone around people, but even in parks where no one is around, I'm often asked to leave before I even get setup. A friend of mine who works at DJI mentioned that when registering your drone in China, you can print something out that you can show to people to inform them that you're technically allowed to fly as long as you're not causing a disturbance to others. Haven't tried yet but hope that helps someone!

@@jordanmakesmaps Did you end up having any luck flying your drone there? I'm headed to Shenzhen next month and was considering bringing my Mavic Air.
@jordanmakesmaps
@jordanmakesmaps 5 жыл бұрын
@@tylerjameslittle, I was able to fly in certain areas outside the geofence. Specifically along the coast of Shenzhen in the coastal park close to the bridge between mainland and Hong Kong. But, if people are there, there might be security guards that tell you to stop flying it for safety reasons.

Hello, i'll go to China next week, i'll be in 5 cities, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chengdu, Leshan, Xian and Beijing, is it recommendable a DJI Spark? For example to take videos of Great Wall, giant Buda and other places?
@FarWestChina
@FarWestChina 7 жыл бұрын
You should be fine. I would just make sure to pull it out and start flying it in a quiet area away from people and other security personnel. It might be legal, but they would rather be safe than sorry and will likely tell you to stop flying it. Make sense?

Drone registration with the FAA was found invalid within the existing laws. Drone registration with the FAA has been reversed a few months ago, you can even request your name be removed from their records and get the fees reimbursed. It must be allowed in some cities such as ShenZhen or SerpentZa and others have hacked the software, or there is no enforcement as is often the case in much of China.
@FarWestChina
@FarWestChina 7 жыл бұрын
Fascinating...I hadn't heard about the invalidation of FAA drone registration. I'll apply for my refund today! As for other vloggers, I do know many cities where an NFZ doesn't exist (except near airports), but Xinjiang is different. All of our cities are blocked off. Of course, I also know of some vloggers who hack their drones to bypass any NFZ restrictions...which invalidates your warranty and could easily get you in trouble. I prefer to avoid that.

Great video... did you by any chance get any feedback or information on flying only indoors in China? Most other countries advise that indoor operation is no longer considered in 'airspace' and therefore commercial licensing and registration is not needed... but I can't see any obvious information online regarding China. Thanks!

Do you NEED to register the drone? Not really. It's still an early system with kinks to work out. You'll be fine even if it's not registered. As for the link - thanks for letting me know! It's been updated.

It's hard to register outside of China just because it requires a phone number to register. If you don't have China phone number, you won't be able to register before you leave.

Thank you in advance

Hi Josh! I just recently bought a drone (DJI mavic pro) here in Los Angeles and I'm planning to bring it to the Philippines, my connecting flight is from the US to China to Philippines. I already confirmed I can bring the drone to the ph, but I'm not sure if i can bring it to a Chinese airline, do you have any idea if they (Chinese airlines) have any regulations on it?
@FarWestChina
@FarWestChina 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. They're just worried about the batteries. You might have to carry the batteries on the plane with you (if you're not carrying the entire drone to your seat already). They won't let you check those batteries in.

in Beijing i would be very careful, first only allowed outside of 6th ring and even then it can be very sensitive as foreigner, literally everywhere hidden army bases. I am flying drones professionally here in China, had to make my license as drone operator (only Chinese though) and even on a job i flew over a private property and got tracked down by police and questioned for hours why i fly over private property and what not. The drone got confiscated for 4 days, all the footage got copied and sent to the security bureau for further analysis and all of this with a valid US like FAA license. No fun at all... In Xinjiang might be easier, still he should be very careful too, there are many re-education camps the government is not very keen to show them to the rest of the world. BBC got burned there many times too. I know i am living and working for the last 15 years in China, married to Chinese too. Never ever argue with a landlord because you think you have the right to fly on his property, depending on his status it could easily happen that the police works in his favor, no matter what the actual law states, laws don't mean much in China...be careful.
@FarWestChina
@FarWestChina 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience, Mark! Xinjiang definitely isn't "easier", but since there are so many more open spaces without city, that's usually where I can fly without any problems. Definitely not anywhere near the concentration camps. Yikes.
