Hey! In this second episode of our Spitfire adventure, Guillaume (Boeing 777 pilot) and I get to fly a 80 year old vintage airplane - the legendary Spitfire 🔥
Big THANK YOU to IWC watches who made this once in a lifetime experience possible 🧡
The Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during, and after World War II. Many variants of the Spitfire were built, using several wing configurations, and it was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft. It was also the only British fighter produced continuously throughout the war. The Spitfire continues to be popular among enthusiasts, nearly 60 remain airworthy, and many more are static exhibits in aviation museums throughout the world.

Maria, this is your video. It is you sharing your experience. Thank you for doing that. And your choice of music is one aspect of your individual experience. An artist is a person who makes creative choices, like music selection, based upon what moves them as an individual. There are many people who start out with a focus on creativity, but then make compromises for the sake of what is appealing not to themself, but to others. At that point, the artist becomes the craftworker. Art morphs into trade. The emphasis shifts from what moves one internally to what the market forces dictate. The most derogatory word here is 'sellout'. Well, there's actually an even more derogatory word. When a person whores out their passion. It doesn't happen overnight. It is a process of compromise that happens in stages. My own perspective is that there are some compromises which can be very helpful, both to oneself and to the audience. Because as a creator, it can be a much more satisfying experience to connect with a larger audience than with only a tiny niche. And my own personal perspective on your choice of music here is that it did an excellent job of conveying the jubilation you experienced on your flight. It appears that I am in the minority. But I have never been too concerned with popularity. Popularity can have its pluses, but it can also be a prison. One of my favorite comments on popularity was from Huey Lewis when his song hit Number 1. He said, "I thought it was better than that." His father was a musician, and he taught him that things that are of the best quality are typically not recognized by the masses as such. It is the midrange stuff that connects with the center of the bell curve. These aren't the words he used. I've translated it into my own words. All of this said, I have my own feedback to you on ideas for how this video could be improved. I don't understand why you burned in subtitles. I see it to be a much cleaner solution to give us the option to click the CC button to turn it on, and to declutter the video if we don't want it. It would be a great feature if KZfaq would let us select alternate audio tracks as well, as the .mp4 format has let us do for years, and which I capitalize on with my own video collection. That way, you could make the background music a deselectable feature just like captions. The other thing I wanted to see was the times when this PIC let you fly the Spit. I was not clear on that at all. And this edit almost makes it look like he didn't give you any stick time. But on the ground he was clear that he was going to let you fly some maneuvers. Thanks again for sharing this amazing experience which all of us would love to do. I would love just getting to fly that sweet sim. Oh, one other thing... You only talk about you and Guillaume going up for a flight. That sucks if your boyfriend did not get a flight. But I am sure that he was very happy for you two.

2k to have a back seat jolly in the spit which I would pay all day long. This beautiful lady saved our country with the hurricanes and the brave pilots that flew them. The hurricane came in to service in 1937 a year before the spit. The hurricane shot down 60% of all enemy aircraft in the battle of Britain

That is without a doubt my favorite airplane of all time, and definitely on my bucket list to fly in one, but few are the people who will ever have that opportunity. I can imagine your legs being shakey. I for one didn’t mind the music. A little bite of fun music to go along with what you said was the greatest experience of your life. I do love the sound of the Merlin Rolls Royce engine, probably one of the most important/influential engines in history. But, I’ve heard it before and that music kind of set the tone for how you must have felt while flying in that magnificent airplane.

Must be weird sat at the back, the pilot sits at the fulcrum of the plane’s rotation. It’s like on a ship in a stormy sea, you stay in the middle where it moves the least. At the bow and stern the rise and fall is greater. Same here I’d have thought, you will move up and down a lot more than the pilot as it pitches or dips. The further you get from its pivot point the greater the vertical movement you will experience. The only way to truly experience the spitfire is to fly if from the pilot seat I guess.

@@hibataha75, the movie Anadolu Kartalları (Anatolian Eagle) was extremely well done. It is about the path to becoming a fighter pilot in the Turkish Air Force. But you may well know that planes like this Spitfire and the fighter jets shown in that movie have a much darker side. And this is in stark contrast to these machines having this intensely spiritually uplifting aspect. One author who does an excellent job in conveying the intense experience of flight is Richard Bach. I'm not sure which of his books would be the best to start with, if you're interested in checking them out. Maybe 'Stranger to the Ground'. But the one which made the biggest impact on my life was 'Illusions'. Just the passion you have expressed here is what is needed to get you halfway there to realizing your dreams. The key to the other half is persistence. Passion & persistence are the most important things that are needed to get you to realize your dreams. And you might be surprised that it can also get you beyond your goal.

Why does every video seem unable to be seen without some out of Context music spoilinga d distracting from the footage? Surely music is used to add to a film emotionally. This just seemed odd? Nice Spitfire though. That didn't need any music to express its beauty.
